You really think you would get a true unbiased opinion from someone getting paid? He is paid to promote Yamaha motorcycles not tell you that they are thicker through the waist that a KTM. SMDH
The thicker aspect I think is overplayed. Personally, I can grab a Yamaha and grip it better between the knees more than a ktm

Great deal for Yamaha. Just think of how many kids will be watching his Youtube and want to start riding dirt bikes. Everyone is going to want Blue now that Deegan is on blue. Yamaha is going to sell a ton of bikes due to this deal.

This would be a smart time for Star to drop merch. They could make up Eli's contract just by selling Star shirts.

I have watched him practice a bit at different tracks with the top 250 riders this year, an in my opinion he still needs more time to reach true pro level speed of the top 10 250 riders,

he was roughly 8 to 10 seconds a lap slower than Justin Cooper and Jett Lawrence last time I saw him at Elsinore on a KTM.
Hopefully a winter of training with his new team mates will help him find the extra speed.

He signed with star for 2 years amateur and 2 years pro - so he has a winter plus 2 years of amateur to find the 10 seconds a lap. Not saying it’ll be easy but he has the program and he has the team and he has the time.

Sometimes people should really re-read stuff before they hit send.

You're telling me that you are shocked that a kid who is 15 years old doesn't have the speed of a Supercross champion and a 250 outdoor national champion? This just in, water is wet.

Nice program and all of the tools needed to succeed are now in place. I hope the boy can live up to the hype.

Right, I was gonna say something but just shook my head. The expectations of some people are just unreal, almost feel bad for the kid.

Really happy for the Deegans, they are going to sell a lot of dirtbikes. We should be embracing them and not hating, can you imagine if RC had this kind of video footage of his armature days? That would be rad. Go watch the video of Brian giving a shop tour, what he does for his kids is amazing and he talks of how different it was when he was growing up.

I feel like I’ve seen you say this in every Deegan thread in the past month. No shit dude. If that wasn’t you then still, no shit dude. He didn’t get on a 250 till after Loretta’s and he’s still a little guy.

New bike old graphics. The armature star bikes run different graphics then the pro bikes.

Not that I don’t think KTM got something out of it, but the amateur scene as a whole, doesn’t it highlight the craziness of signing kids to long term deals with so many unknowns?

Sure it’s worked here for the time being, both sides got something, but he could, as many do, just as easily not worked out, burned out, got injured, not performed etc And you’d have to assume KTM did have some sort of hope he’d stay orange.

The list is probably pretty lopsided the other way and the model is more and more turning to long term, high dollar support. He’s probably the most high profile since AC and with the social aspect the most valuable, no?

The amateur scene is only getting more expensive and being pushed up by these deals too. It was team green and yellow with free bikes… then Geico started going crazy, PC had to respond, Star and KTM but there hasn’t been a conga line of chosen kids hanging banners either.

I like KTM and wish he would have stayed with them but they got their money's worth of advertising with all the years of Haiden winning on their bikes and being highlighted on the Deegan's social media and you tube. win win.

I think it's a good move for him as I think Star Yamaha gives him the greatest chance of winning and being successful. I think Haiden will have a little bit of an eye opening experience at the Mini O's. The B class and schoolboy 2 is no joke, several dudes that have incredible speed and aren't afraid to throw an elbow. It's going to be wildly different than the mini cycle days. I look forward to seeing his progress and wish him success.

No, I'm not telling anyone I'm "shocked".

Don't put words in my mouth.

And, Ken Roczen was winning Grand Prix races at 15, so it's not unheard of.

All I'm saying is that he gets a lot of press for a rider that has yet to see his true potential. I hope he kills it eventually.

There are other riders with his skill and roughy his age level who have a different last name that I don't see a lot of Hoopla about here.

Also, to add the KTM he has been riding is Stock Engine with some bolt-on stuff. The KTM 250 he got at Loretta's was not built up like his supermini was and it is not even in the ballpark of Jetts or Cooper's factory bike.

Those are your exact words. He has never even lined up an raced a 250 so of course he would be off the pace.

My best advice to you is when you find yourself in a hole stop digging.

I don't think that lack of power for the KTM 250F is a problem.

The Dutch rider Elzinga I brought over was also on a completely stock 2022 KTM motor on a bike I put together in my garage.

His laps were consistently equal or faster than Jo Shimoda at Glen Helen and Elsinore, and 4.5 seconds slower than Justin Cooper. (Deegan was on track at both sessions also.) Rick weighs almost 180 without gear.

He qualified first at fox raceway national 2 in "B" on the same motor. So I don't think Haiden has ever been short on power for his size on the KTM.

Thats a low over/under. Daddy Deegan won 1 - correct.
and is that on the 250 or 450?

But like the question.

As for "this sort of shit," it's never guaranteed that an amateur will have brand loyalty just because he got an early contract. KTM knew that going in, and all manufacturers should take heed.

Yup, look good on Star for throwing their money around, it is good for the sport. I bet Yamaha are VERY happy that Star are doing what they are, other brands are probably looking on in jealousy!

I'm getting an error looking up the 800 stats at his debut, but looks like the next round he raced was Steel City and he was only 4-5 seconds a lap off and that was against RC. In practice he was 1-2 seconds off Reed and Windham.

Point being the kid has work to do. Mike was 16 then. The good thing for Haiden is he will turn pro later but so he has time.

Shouldn't be a surprise really. The relationship the family has with the big green claw meant KTM was done right away. It was going to be Star or Pro circuit and he went with who is hot right now. If it's my kid in the same spot, we make the same choice. Wouldn't you?? Arguably fastest bike with best training program and riding with numerous Champs is hard for anyone to compete with. And he keeps wearing Thor gear, 100%goggles and Alpinestars boots. Helmet was only change from 6d to Bell.
The kid could never race a pro race and make millions just posting content. So I think it's dope that he wants to win championships. And with over a million followers on youtube alone, don't feel bad for the orange brigade. I'm sure they sold enough bikes over the last 8 years to kids that watch his videos to more than make up their investment.

Wow really ground breaking Brent. A kid that just got on a 250f a few months ago isn’t as fast as current pros. Earth shattering stuff.
