I was thinking back to the amateur dvds like the prospects and in the ranks and thought I remembered him being from Texas but I was mistaken.
Matt Lemoine moved to Pilot Point, TX around the time the Wharton brothers were in there last amatuer years. He was from Louisiana. Like Kyle Cunningham, had Lemoine had a shot on one of the premier teams of the era, I belive he could have been a consistent top 5 rider in SX
.This was also around the time Hunter Hewitt, (Bobby Hewitt's son) was also going pro and also lived in Pilot Point, TX.
Blake Wharton had great success on the Geico Honda team, and is arguably the best rider from North TX in the last 21 years. His brother Tyler scored points in outdoors and was decently fast at the same time.
Of course, you have the Hahn brothers ( Wil and Tommy ) who relocated to north of Decatur, TX from Kansas and had great success although short lived from injuries in SX and MX.
At this same time Kyle Cunningham from the areas just west of Ft Worth, TX was also making his pro debut. I feel Kyle could have been a regular top 5 rider had he been given a shot early on, on one of the premier teams of the day. So at that time, TX had several promising contenders.
By way of Ohio, Josh Demuth moved to North TX in the early or mid 2000's and had his most success, (I believe at least 3 Arenacross championships ) and decent SX results.
Andrew Short (from Colorado) didn't relocate to North Texas, but after marrying his wife who was from Texas, he did buy that ranch in Smithville, TX and built a nice mx facility there, to live and train at.
Of course who can forget Mitchell Oldenburg, now by way of Aledo, TX ( his dad owned Oak Hill MX for years in Alvord, TX) who has great speed, and is albeit, lots of injuries, a top 10 rider anytime he shows up on the gate.
A few years later, Kyle Regal, (by way of Michigan) and parents bought approximately 90 acres near Kemp TX and started Underground MX track. He had promise outdoors early and won an Arena Cross championship later in his career. I feel Regal could have done so much more as his potential was there if he had shown more dedication.
Since then, it hasn't been a total dryspell, as John Short has showed success in SX and outdoors and has good speed.
Grant Harlan (I believe now by way of Justin, TX) has shown some decent results.
Of course both Masterpool brothers, ( Jake and Ty ) hail from Paradise, TX and both have promise, just not sure where these 2 go yet. Can they improve, get more than privateer backing, ( Ty was with Star Yamaha) and move up?
Time will tell with these 2.
Finally we have TJ Uselman, ( of Willow Park, TX) who had his best results outdoors this season at Millville, and who knows with him. He's young, hungry, and dedicated. Maybe he can become a regular who makes main events.
I do sometimes wonder how an area of over 9 Million residents ( North Texas region) hasn't produced a title contender with all the good tracks in the region. States with less population such as Minnesota, North Carolina, and Washington have given us multi time champs like Dungey, Webb and Villopoto.
I'm not from here as I grew up in Iowa, but I've been here for over 23 years and it really surprises me it hasn't happened yet from this area of TX.
