You guys can say what you want about his work ethic but for someone to complete a Leo academy they have to put in the work. Simple as that. He married his lady and became a cop. It says a lot for a dude to give up his whole early life of racing to transition into getting a solid career going to do what needs to be done to support his family. I hope he keeps riding and posting videos of it. He’s awesome to watch and an even bigger fan now. Congratulations Justin!

I am also happy for him. I have to add that to be fair, any rider joining the elite puts in the work no matter what (title in 250 + top 10 in 450). Some have more stamina, or gift, some are less burnt out coming in, some are coming with a healthier body than others, some get multiple injuries that hits the drive or confidence, some have better teams bikes or trainers, etc ; there are just so many factors at the elite level that in my mind, any top 10 guy is an athlete, and should be respected as such, as there is just 1 winner and 3 on the podium. Last year he was top 6 until SLC, with a healthy field, that is really top level, so we can bag him as much as we want, that is a level of commitment most human beings can't achieve in their work too, being in the top 0.01% of a field. I am bummed it didn't fully worked out, but it was cool to watch as a fan, so good for him to walk away on his own terms.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him looking for a ride in a year, after the reality of being a cop sets in.

He's a sheriff though? They tend to be way more chill than a big city cop. He seems like he'd fit the rural Oregon vibe just fine. He'll ticket Californians for going two mph over the speed limit, chase some growers here and there, cite people for dumping their washing machine on the side of the road, fight some tweekers. It'll be fine.

I know an Oregon sheriff isn't the same, but do you guys have any idea how much a California Highway Patrolman makes? It's insane, and the bennies are endless.

Yes, you can look up anyone you know that works for the government on transparent California. There is a HB police officer that makes 70 or 80K base salary but for the last 10 to 15 years he been clearing double that.

Back to Justin. Good for him. Now he doesn’t have to worry about the non stop “pro motocross” training and all the bazzar habits that surround it 24/7 365. I have been getting to see more and more of these top guys around the SoCal tracks and can honestly say, for some, it does not look like they are having any fun at all “getting to ride a dirt bike for a living”

I think that the folks referring to him becoming a Sheriff may be rushing things just a little bit. He’s probably become a Deputy, but most Sheriffs are elected officials who have had a fairly substantial career in law enforcement before being elected.....

A logging worker?

In the US, a crossing guard is statistically more dangerous than being a law enforcement officer.....

Law enforcement has its dangers as it is, no need to exaggerate those dangers though.

I hope he doesn’t have to police anywhere near Portland or any other “like-minded” areas!

Uh oh. Will he have one good year as deputy, then hang out in the donut shop waiting for his promotion while promising great things to come?

I'm not sure of the reasons for the down votes, although in my opinion being a police officer in any country is a very dangerous job.

I don’t know why you guys have to get into a pissing match about stupid things.

I’m happy for Justin and wish him nothing but the best in his new career. I’m sure he will make a great addition to the sheriff’s department.

My guess is that they are likely because of the exaggeration.

Well, your opinion of it being the most dangerous job in the world doesn't mean it is.

I grew up in a logging town, we have a city block size memorial for those who have died bringing logs out of the woods....my best friend grew up without a Dad from the age of 3 due to a logging accident....I don't think a single cop or sheriff has died in the line of duty in the same town ever.

Being a cop is a noble profession, especially in today's world, but there are PLENTY of others who also put their life on the line every day to put food on the table and provide the rest of us with the things we need to live a comfortable life.

The difference is that in logging, those fatalities are terrible accidents, no malice involved, maybe even safety lapses. There are people out there that are willing to kill a cop straight up and the cops don't generally know that when making contact.

And...quite a few of them ride...
And...they sometimes let that guy in the Transit doin' 90 on 395 in the middle of nowhere off with just a "warning"...
And...the vast majority of them are cool MoFOs.

I guess the main point is, that neither of them know or have a choice, every time they walk out that door earn a paycheck they might not come back. Doesn't matter if it's an accident or malice, dead is dead.

Yes, it's shitty that people out there want to do harm to cops but it just simply doesn't make it the most dangerous job in the world, probably not even close actually.

And even the factor he is mentioning, while definitely a hallmark of a a dangerous job, can be overstated compared to other dangerous jobs. Example: yes, law enforcement is a career with high homicide rate (fortunately, still statistically near zero), but significantly lower than that of a cab driver:

Sorry, back on topic: Big ups to Justin for pursuing his dreams and entering the next chapter after racing. Despite the criticisms we fans piled on him throughout his career, it is pretty clear he must be a guy capable of hard work both inside and outside of sport to achieve what he has.
