It’s the grandest track in the world just for the sheer size of it. The 2016 National track was probably the most ridiculous motocross track ever raced on. Should be on on the schedule no matter what.

In addition, the track is on Tribal land, so MX Sports can be assured that the events will go off.

Would glen Helen be a better choice if there could only be one national in so cal? Yes.

But Pala is a mean Motherfucker in its own right, the riders will be tested there.
Not questioning the tracks toughness. It just looks like an over watered section of moon dirt in the middle of a desert. The track crew does an exceptional job for what they have to work with.

National tracks always seem to have some kind of iconic section i.e. Bradshaw Boulevard, Larocco's Leap, Gravity Cavity, Millville Whoops, etc. Pala has none of that. Shit, it barely even has any trees.

Who doesn't enjoy the lush scenery of the Glen Helen area - The multiple Amazon warehouses, the Lovely run down Denny's on the corner, the test track where they teach San Berdoo cops how to wreck their cars, or best of all the Women's prison at the end of the road to the track.

I'm not big on traveling, like I really don't have a bucket list of anywhere I want to see specifically, but the only thing I have ever wanted to travel for is to race the 2 stroke nationals at Glen Helen and the Vet world championship whenever I'm old enough. Would love to see if my 125 could make it up some of those hills!

Yup. That area is the anus of California. And Bud knows that the track doesn't need a national to stay open.

It's a great track, the hills are epic, I would prefer to see it to Pala, and I always loved shooting there. If GH were on the US National circuit now it wouldn't be the best track of the series. As far as hills, Millville's hills now are not far behind if not every bit as epic and challenging.

On a trip out west we had to choose Glen Helen or Pala to ride at, only had time for one. We ended up choosing Pala because it was just after the national ('11? One with long ass whoops). I did one lap, pulled off and told myself, you're out of your element Donny and went back to the vet track. Everyone was super cool. Glad we went. I don't think Glen Helen would've been as memorable.

As of late nov to April, I delivered hz loads to Cal. On 11-18 I picked up a load of snowblowers from San Bernardino, which is odd , on my birthday. Remember in 05 I think, they had 6-8 in of snow. I didn’t think the area was too bad. GH looks big and cool from the road. Who has the biggest down hill of the nationals, is kind of a big deal.

Those are the ones. I don't think I ever even rolled them. Watched Brian Deegan blitz them like nothing. I rode the national track at Broome but this track was so foreign to me. Tracks on different coasts are so different. It really shows that shootouts, for the most part, are useless for anybody in the east.

Eli should be remembered forever in moto history just on that streak.

In general it's a shame that there aren't so many national tracks along the West Coast, the most rugged part of the continental United States. Or when you do have them, they're manmade and in the flatter parts i.e. Pala, Elsinore, Utah national. Apart from Washougal and Glen Helen I can't really think of past national tracks that utilize all the Cascades and other mountain ranges have to offer.

Kegums gets rough, but has hardly any elevation.
Lommel has even less elevation.

That's because all the rugged mountain ranges are federal land...and the feds aren't in the motocross business and if they wanted to be (to build a moto track in the mountains)...the Greenies would never let it happen.

Usually the tracks on are private, state, or Indian land.

You could try Hollister again, but it has the same ingress/egress issues (which, frankly, is true of a lot of the tracks). The public roads definitely have more capacity now than then, but way more people on the weekends.

Sears/Infineon would be good again at the right time of the year, too, if they wanted to even consider it. I expect they can run only a certain number of events, and other options worth more. The coastal range is simply epic for Moto at the right time of the year. May is marginal, and not really optimal until the first rains in the fall. I'm not sure ripping and water with that adobe would do anything other than turn the bikes to bricks.

Trust me, your 125 will make it up that hill, my son has made it up on a KX 85 when it was muddy. I had him pull off after 2 laps, thought the bike was going to blow up. It did the next weekend :-)

People who haven’t ridden Pala on a Tuesday are the ones saying it’s a shit National. It’s really not that bad, the track provides good racing, it’s usually not too hot there. Can pretty much see the whole track from one spot. Now I would rather watch one at GH all day long, but If Pala is what they’re giving I’ll take it. Also to the people saying San Bernardino is a shit hole, you’re 100% right. But other than a casino and track Pala is just as big of a shit hole. Just more bushes on the ground ha

Forget the GH uphill triple, the scariest, most life threatening thing you can do in that area is to eat there...

About 4 hours and 15 minutes into that Whiskey Throttle interview with Guy, he breaks it down... And straight up says it's like a mafia running the show.

Glen Helen isn't coming back to the schedule anytime soon.
