Ryan Villipoto Whiskey Throttle Show

Just spent the day driving at work and listened to the most recent whiskey throttle show and am close to the end now. Just came across the part of the show talking about the day Ryan’s dad passed. It choked me up and made me weak in the knees hearing David’s voice break but also to hear him say he gave it everything he had helps us to remember sometimes things are just beyond our control. I know it’s been many years and likely late but wanted to say that ping, you are a phenomenal human being and are a great man and thank you for all of your endeavours in life and giving us these moments to experience while working through our daily lives. Ryan’s dad soundd like he was a great man and he gave us a very special human being. Awesome show fellas, take life one day at a time.

Very well said and I agree this episode was a great listen! Losing your father is one of the hardest moments in a mans life. It’s going on 9 years for my dad and it’s still hard to talk about

I’m so sorry to hear man, I can’t imagine. My dad is my best friend and he’s been a rock for me. This past October my only sister who was 23 years old and was born hydrocephalic passed away and we still are not sure why. I’ve been so fortunate to go many years with healthy family and haven’t experienced a great loss until this year. Hearing David speak about it just hit me right in the soul to know those men and women who did everything in their power to bring her back go through such hard ships. They are the real superheroes. If there is one positive from the state of the world it’s maybe that we appreciate our loved ones a little extra and slow down to enjoy that time with them just a bit more. We never know which day could change our lives forever ❤️

He went out riding. If it's your time to go I can't imagine a much better time.

I'm 3/4 way through. Not that i'm not enjoying it, because I am, there is some unreal stuff but I feel like they've just missed it this time.

There is SOOOO fucking much in RV's career, and from every interview he's ever done, he doesn't remember that much. RV won more titles than everyone but RC, and probably battled more of the top riders ever to get them done...

So many good wins in his rookie year, 07 and 08 alone before he even sniffed a 450. Feel like Ping needed weeks to prepare notes to really get in to this career.

I dont like the whole "live" thing i feel they all act a bit different (that goes for all pods pulp stuff included), i really enjoyed all the recent ones with just Ping or with the different guests with just them in the room

Yeah I get that. It’s tough. Listening to how silent everyone went when they were discussing Dan, you wouldn’t get that atmosphere change if it wasn’t live, but the thing with these long format career pods is, I want to hear it bit by bit, gimme all of it.

Matthes used to do it but seems like he doesn’t want to take up people’s time as much any more... and these live WT are definitely more casual.

Just a heads up, the first 30 minutes doesn’t have RV at all. They interview Ryno, the Stacyc guy and Steve Caballero during that time.

That was probably one thing about the show that was just so powerful. I am miles away and even a few days passed now from when and where that show was recorded, but man did I feel that heavy energy. You could hear the crowd was obviously enjoying themselves (ping even asking them to quiet down at one point lol) but when the time came for respect, to hear a man tell him he put every ounce of his energy to change the outcome of That situation and at the same time hear the crowd and guests give their full attention was so so powerful. The applause had me tearing up and I had to take a minute to just stop and appreciate everything I have in my life. We need more of that in this world. I truly enjoyed this show.

I can’t imagine Ping’s emotions in that moment and any time he has had to talk to Ryan or their family since... when he was saying he has asked other medics or fighters he knows if they’ve had that experience and no one had, my stomach turned. Not that it wasn’t obviously rare, but to feel that emotion and not be able to relate it to someone... poor bastards, only solace amongst telling a man I did everything I could but I’m sorry it wasn’t enough....

The Whiskey Throttle show is unmatched. As much as I enjoyed the shows with hero’s from the early days of moto (Staten, RD, Tripes etc) this latest one was the best

Great show, cool vibe, great guest again.

I love GL but just a few times I wish he could listen and not share his experience, no big deal. It's gotta be tough but I think he is great. The show live would have a much different feel.

Thanks Ping!!

Ping,

I never knew you were on the scene and working on RV's dad. That's so heavy man and obviously still affects you watching you talk about it. That was a tough part of the show for me having just lost my dad back in January.

Great show and I've always enjoyed hearing you speak / write about anything moto related. You and GL do a great job keep it up!!!

It’s seemed like a few times RV was going to say something, then GL talked over the top of RV, and RV just never shared what he was going to.

Still great show.

It was a good show but I feel like it could have been amazing. I just wish GL would learn to listen instead of using his experiences to try to relate. Also, please let the riders you interview get their full thought out before being interrupted because there is a chance to make a small joke.

Please understand that I love the show and trying to give feedback, not being critical

The dad part had me tearing up for sure, it hit close to home

I love the show. But if I could offer some constructive criticism, when preparing for a show, would it be that hard to have all the dates of races, finishes, team changes etc listed? Hearing EVERYONE on the panel trying to remember when something happened drags the flow of the show down. In my opinion.

That occurred quite frequently. Not saying that the questions aren't asked for the guest to respond and possible spark an anecdote, but the notes would be there to prompt should memory fail to keep the show flow.

Just my .02.

Also, How could you not ask for a few good stories of a young AC living with RV and his wife!! Had to be some great stories there.

That one caught me off guard, I almost spit my water I was drinking out while driving home from the track. I was absolutely cracking up. So funny.

As others have said, GL kinda put a downer on the episode for me, sadly, talking over RV multiple times. Could have probably unlocked even more stories as RV was pretty open about a lot of things.

Also, I found it odd that Ping had to tell people to 'get out' if they wanted to chat early on. Don't people go to listen to the show? If that show happened in the UK then we'd be all ears (besides laughing etc) and show respect to both the hosts and RV.

As you above have stated, GL needs to take a step back and let the guest finish sentences, Ping can't rely on the guest to remember details, he needs to do more research.
But another great show.Smile Smile

Dude GL is just brutal this episode. I’m about 90 minutes in and every question to RV he feels the need to give his input and make it about him. Please tell me this was a one off thing and that he’s not back on the show..

WTS is becoming one of my favorites! I wanted more info out of the RV show but it was still great. Big fan of this show. I like the format.

I hear you... tough part is, particularly in a live show when we can't break it up into two segments, I can only run the show so long. We still went almost four hours. That said, I'm going to make some changes to the way we do live shows moving forward and I think it will be a much better format.
We also had some audio issues, due in part to the aluminum construction of the butler building we were in. Not exactly ideal acoustics, lol. I've talked to RV about doing a follow up in our TLD studio, and he is going to jump in and co-host some shows with us moving forward. Thanks for the support!

Oh, and banger guest coming in this week... stay tuned.

Echoing everyone else, I'm about 75% through it and have said, "shut up shut up!" several times when RV was about to delve deeper into something and Langston just starts talking over the top of him, making a joke or telling a story of his own. I like his insight, but damn, let the guest tell their own story first, that's why we're listening! FWIW, love him as an announcer for the nationals.
