I’m sure the 22 will be a great bike either way man. 18-21 was the first generation of dual cams for the Honda so they probably learned a lot.

Sorry I didn’t mean updates, I meant just the general release of the new bikes. Like are both bikes released the same month each year or does say the 450 come out in May while the 250 comes out in June (examples)

Oh my bad! I know when it's the brand new model (first year of the 450 or 250) it seems like it is fall, whereas the slightly updated models the following years roll out sooner. I have a 2022 450 showing up late May/early June, which is a lot sooner than I have personally seen in the past with Honda. Ideally wanted the new 250, but doesn't even have an announcement yet and I am bike less right now and who knows on the availability of those 250s if and when they do release.

Highly doubt you see a 2022 250 show up in May/June. The 2022 450 is out soon because they didn't get it right on the 2021, so they fixed some small things like tuning and suspension and will call this the "2022", which would have been unchanged had they got it right the first time around.

I would guess the announcement for the 250 comes in June. That's when they came last year. Depending on supply chain stuff, August / September for bikes in dealers.

I am hopeful Honda will follow their usual pattern and release a new 250 the year after a new 450, but who knows what COVID has done to their R&D and supply chain for parts. Japan just declared a state of emergency in Tokyo and Osaka as cases continue to rise there, and they have only vaccinated 1 percent of their population.

Also hopeful that they don't make the same mistakes on the 250 that they did on the 450.

I am seriously intrigued as to what Honda found and did to their 250's this year, every rider complained about them being so down on power compared to the other bikes, especially the Yamaha. From the looks of it, the HRC CRF250's that both Jett and Hunter are riding seem to have plenty of race winning horsepower and are consistently up front or pulling holeshots and they're not getting pulled nearly as bad as the geico bikes.
Of course this is in sx and the real true test will be outdoors this summer.

As a 2021 Honda 250 owner I've analyzed this a bunch.

I've got an 18 and a 21 sitting in the van right now and it's a world of difference.

My current theory is they haven't figured out the twin cam engine and that additional mass of the second cam robs the bottom.

They didn’t. Chase won last year on it. Jett was getting pulled bad in the longer sections by the star yz250f at Indy.

My best guess is that they invested a lot of time and money into the motor and didn't update parts for 2021.

Big picture, it doesn't matter. A production bike will see a small fraction of the performance engineering the factory bikes get.

In all seriousness, if the 2022 CRF 250 was going to be rehashed, wouldn't they have just released pictures of it along with the batch of 450s? Seems like pretty good evidence that it might be a new bike? Now I just need it to weigh 220 lbs and make 45 HP. That's all really...

They did that with the 450 because they messed it up for 2021. All they had to do is change the springs and the map and release it early as a 2022. So they just put out a press release with the same picture.

This is not as easy to do with a brand new bike, which they are probably still finalizing. No reason to do them at the same time.

I don't have any specific info, but I think that's the general consensus. All the factories dropped their direct teams in Japan except for Yamaha.
