I think that was one of plessinger s best rides on a 450 . I think people have mad expectations for him . To be dominating or something. When you look back on 250s he was never as good as webb , roczen, tomac , MM25 , barica , AC ,DF14 .Osborne i think he will show flashes and could win a few races. But i think last night was really soild for him
Take Marv and maybe AC out of there.

Maybe i can take AC out of there but Marv hell no . He was a good bit better than plessinger in 250 s imo .

Biggest disappointment to me would have to be the results of tomac and Webb. I figured at least one of them would slice through the pack to a top 5.
15 people all within the same second = track sucks haha
No no no.. remember this year is THE deepest field ever!!! 4000000 potential winners every round! So it would only make sense for them all to be within a second of each other.. haha

The wall before the whoops.

Why put a wall there if it's going to just slow everyone down and make them jump through the whoops? Defeats the purpose of whoops imo. Track was super short as well, I thought the SLC races were bad but damn.

Oh like that quad after the finish line? Or the rhythm after the whoops?

Roczen was 1/2s a lap faster than Barcia, and he could not pass Barcia without getting dirty. That is not a good track for the 1st race of the year. The whoops were eliminated as a factor because they stopped every one on entry with that steep wall. But in the defense of the track builders, it seems they have a small floor area at Houston....

It was a bit smaller than usual. The notch in the grandstands that usually extends the middle lanes was still configured for football, so it didn't offer that opportunity.

Fast laps were in the 44-second range. Take that wall out, and you're looking at maybe a 42-second lap time. The 450s did 28 laps in the main. Would you prefer faster and more laps? Or add some more tech to slow them down?

Missed Ralph a bit.
The play by play is always backround noise anyway, liked Ralf's version of it better.
Diffey is a pro & was well prepared, but Ralph is a real SX fan & that came through in his broadcasting.

AX is 10 times better than this. Easier to watch and more exciting. New announcer is the worst I ever heard. He should stick with dog shows.

I was using ‘last 2/3s’ as a generalisation, however lap 12 is still in the 2nd third of the race. I did forget DF passing Plessinger near the end though. Didn’t count Anderson’s drop back as that was just a matter of him fading fast rather than being passed by a faster rider.
So still that’s only two active passes amongst the top ten in 16 laps of a main event!

The audio guy at NRG. You couldn’t hear most of the podium interviews but the commercials were blaring loud. Then they’d get some echos going followed by screaming feedback. Horrible job.

Those bitching about the fans weren’t there. The riders most definitely appreciated having some butts in the seats. You could see it at opening ceremonies and with the podium speeches. We couldn’t hear a damn thing Craig said but the emotion on his face was clear and the crowed cheered him heavily - and he heard it.

Track was ok. There were places to pass but they are all so good it takes a mistake usually. No one was really forcing the issue being round 1. You could see guys let up instead of blasting someone. That will change as points race gets tighter. Dirt was very good.

I agree on the audio thing, as far as television goes, because you literally could not hear a word that Ian Harrison said during the 250 main as the bike noise was too loud. I am sure they will get that sorted before the next round.

I noticed a lot of comments in the race day thread mentioning the audio. All were from the US, maybe it was a Peacock issue? International stream audio was fine.....our picture quality however....

On a positive note, I thought the manager comments, starting with Harrison, were a great addition to the broadcast!

Why they are making tracks so narrow and dont use whole floor? They are saving money by doing narrow lanes that no one can pass and short whoops that will keep riders just behind another?

My comment was on the in-stadium system. It was horrible inside - they just couldn't get it right consistently, all night. I'll watch the mains today on Peacock. Couldn't be worse there. Hopefully they get it figured out for tomorrow's race - heading to that one too.

Friese. I think he should be a top 10 guy. If he keeps this up he'll lose his ride.

Overall I thought it was an exciting day of racing and the battle between Barcia and Roczen was great.

The production quality was off though. Sound quality was bad. My picture quality was terrible with major artifacting... any moving object was super blurry to the point that on my big TV it was about giving me a headache. Never had this happen with any programming I've watched. Also several times through the heats and mains they focused on one rider while there was a battle going on. Shots like that make no sense. I want to see racing, not one guy on track. The problems didn't diminish my excitement for the racing though, which was fantastic as usual even if there weren't a lot of passes.

NRG has had this problem every time I've been, which is every time there's supercross.

Probably a minority with this thought, but i would much rather see a "tamed" down track the 1st couple rounds as the guys ease into it. The alternative is a shit ton of guys that get hurt the 1st/2nd round and then we are down a bunch of riders. I think it was as smart move. Save the Excite bike tracks for later in the season or at least a few round in.... Yes, i know they have been training to ride Supercross for months, but racing is racing, training is training.

They used all but a few meters on the edges. It's just not that big of a space, and they had to leave a little room for dig dugs, equipment, and places for riders to exit after a race or in case of a crash.

Tomac. The series champion was 1 second away from being lapped!!! I’m an ET3 fan, but that was an embarrassing evening.

I guess I'm the odd man out...I can't think of a legitimate complaint or disappointment. Was the production or track perfect...no, but it didn't suck...at least not enough to complain about. As far as rider performance/results...it's racing and determination/luck determine those so what's to complain about? What a great kick off to the season.
track didn't straight up suck? So, you are saying you like Arenacross tracks???

Webb didn’t qualify great and didn’t have pace to make passes.
We talk about it being the most stacked field ever, and then complain about track not allowing passing.
Maybe the level is so high that there are less mistakes being made leaving less opportunities to pass.
Kenny making passes from corner to corner on the straight was awesome.
That track was of local fair grounds caliber. The level is just so high that 14 guys are on the same second in qualifying and Tomac/Webb, who both lapped almost the entire field at a race in SLC a mere 7 months ago, couldn't come through the pack? Have another one buddy that is a piss poor theory there.

I thought the production was pretty poor and the track rather boring, but the riders were on it and put on a good show. I’d have loved to see Kenny make a more serious effort at Justin—he has the speed but just wasn’t willing to make a pass stick.

You are wrong. It might have looked like Sac Raceway from Elk Grove, but from 10 rows up in section 103 at NRG it looked technical, sticky/tacky, rutted, and difficult to hit your marks every lap. Small errors in timing resulted in mistakes that cost positions. Barcia made 3 or 4 minor mistakes that allowed Kenny to get very very close, and Kenny chose not to blast him. Yeah, the whoops were pretty small, and the wall jump was a pain, but the 2 major rhythm sections had multiple options and both bit riders that missed their timing. And only Barcia and Kenny were doing the quad after the finish line. I didn't see anyone else even try it. Looking forward to Tuesday and seeing how the dirt has changed. I think it will dry out a bit and we will see more aggressive passing in the bowl corners. Can't wait!
