Go with the Honda. Be different. Hell I feel like 80% of the people in Ohio ride an Orange bike.

I would just buy the Honda bc of the shitty hardware that the Austrians use. Trash.

I own a factory edition 19.5 and a 20 works edition, they are both phenomenal bikes honestly. The works edition on the 20 model is vastly better then the standard CRF, plush and very linear engine package. The CRF WE doesn’t have true porting, just cleaned the casting a little around the valve seat which doesn’t really matter because the power delivery is better all around.
The Factory edition is probably a better bike overall though. If you was racing I’d say KTM, it’s smooth and stable, incredible brakes, feels very light. I did put a vortex on it because I didn’t care for stock mapping. It’s good at any track I take it to.
If your just a practice track rider then either bike is perfect, the Honda is a little more fun to ride but will wear you out a little faster. Also, if you ride a lot of tight tracks then Honda would be better or if you ride fast high speed tracks I’d lean toward the ktm.
It’s literally a toss up, can’t go wrong with either. Only thing I’d suggest, if you do a ktm, get it mapped or a vortex and remove the incredibly restricted exhaust insert, it nearly closes off the baffle completely and blows the packing out fast. And the bike is still pretty quiet with it out because there is still another screen in the center of the muffler.
If you get a CRF, get a rekluse torque drive clutch pack, correct spring rates if you’re heavier or lighter then oem target range and sag 106-107, maybe slide forks down 3mm or flush tube with the clamp and you’ll love it

Isn’t this like the 10th “ KTM versus Honda “ what should I buy” thread?

For that matter, if you have not ridden one or both of the current model of either bike, is your opinion here really valid? Both bikes have changed significantly from last years models.

Downvote me all you want but you know I’m right...

I can never figure out why people ask others what bike they should buy in the first place. A company could make a bike that blows you while you’re riding it and people that don’t ride that color bike would say it doesn’t suck hard enough. Jesus, do you ask people what underwear you should buy as well? Read the bike tests, ask people (who actually have the bike and ride it) what the good and weak points are, and pull the trigger on what you decide. Asking what bike to buy here is like giving a flamethrower to a chimpanzee.

Exactly. Why give opinions on something you don’t have personal experience with?

Your 2010 Honda isn’t a 21 FE KTM. And a 13 FE KTM isn’t a 21 WE.

I paid someone to ride their FE, and did a bike swap with a WE. I would bet 90% of people in this thread, haven’t ridden either.

I've ridden them all. They're all good as long as you know how to set up a bike to your liking. Pick your poison...

To say any one brand is garbage is ridiculous.

The truth here is that all of these 2021 bikes are excellent. There is no bike nowadays that is vastly superior to another.

Every rider is a different shape, size and skill level. Max Anstie was getting top fives and holeshots in the nationals on the lowest rated bike.

I’ve ridden all of the 2021 Austrian brands, and bought the KTM, but I’m sure I’d be just as happy on any of the other bikes.

The KTM and new 2021 Honda CRF450R couldn’t be more different. I own a 19.5 KTM 450 FE. I just bought a 2021 CRF450R. Not a Works Edish, just std.

To sum up my opinion without going into a ton of detail the Honda is more of a young guy bike, the KTM is a Cadillac. Honda more accurate, KTM more forgiving. Honda engine more zippy, KTM more grunty, both making plenty of power.

Value wise comparing standard bikes to the FE or WE, simple math says the FE price difference is more reasonable. Hope this helps and good luck with your choice, let us “tards” know what you pick.

John of course we do we know what’s best. I’ve ridden the new Honda and Kawasaki and they are really good and rode a 20 Yamaha and I’d still take my 17 Ktm now that being said wife bought me a new Ktm 450 factory edition for Christmas so can’t wait until they come in

I’m sure one bike might be better than the other but I’m also sure both are fantastic. Get whichever one is calling you. If you can get both and then decide which one to sell.

Honda new model bikes have been notoriously bad over the past generations. With that being said you can put me on any bike from 2000 on and my lap time is going to be the damn same. Get whatever you want, tweak it to your liking and ride the shit out of it!

Good Lord it's like a bunch of girls about these bikes.. lol

I chose what I chose because i felt it'd fit me best and give me a mental comfort, which is key for me to be anywhere near competitive. Half this stuff is a mind game. In reality, id probably ride every one of them about the same speed, but in the brain it's stuck on a certain color.. I paid for one what ida paid for the other, so that's a moot point in my case. There is none of this "ktm (or crf) is best period" stuff.. I can pick flaws on both, which are nearly all opinion based anyway.. hear complaining about hondas mapping yet I just read a ktm guy up there say he had to remap his ktm to get it to his liking.

I just can't wait to fn ride.

I was going to pull the trigger on a new Honda RWE tomorrow at MSRP OTD with shipping/set up doc fees or taxes. Headed to SoCal for a few weeks and did think about selling it while I'm down there toward the end of the trip for a deal. I did hear that regular CRF450's are $12,000-$12,500 OTD the down that way. What are the works models selling for in California?
TeamGreen wrote:

Do you think I could get $12k for one after putting about 5-10 hours on it?
I do...EASILY...or...more.

The "Honda-Folk" are VERY excitied about this new bike...especially the coveted WE. If a guy took good care and put 10 hours on it...I'm quite confident you could put the darn thing on eBay & make a profit.

If it were me...? (And if the parts are even avail)
I'd get some other plastic to run for those 10 hours (Shrouds and Side-Panels at the very least. Just checked UFO and they show that they have them).

The Honda will look current for 4 more years, the KTM may look "last generation" in 6 months.

That being said both bikes are great and you can't go wrong on either. Trust your gut IMO.

I replace the visible hardware with titanium. Problem solver for any manufacturer or person such as myself with ocd regarding the looks of hardware. My only advice, if you can live with the stock hardware, do so. It turns into a never ending rabbit hole. I thought I’d be happy replacing just the case bolts. Suddenly, I realized how shitty my “NEW” OEM Honda hardware looked and found myself spending my lunch money every week on titanium. Only benefit is it doesn’t corrode like steel. Hope your doing well Seth.

Other than the chain... I guess I could gripe about the side cover bolts. However, I’m also the guy that makes perfect creases in Christmas wrapping paper. To each his own, making a decision on a bike over how the hardware looks after use should be a clue as to how good both bikes are.

Well that was after spraying the bike off after sitting dirty due to xmas engagements, the chain isn’t standard hardware. I guess my point was that the hardware has nothing wrong with it after lots of use.
