The Matrix toolbox ought to show up on Friday.

Curious: Is Mayson a member here? If he is not, encourage him to join!

Good job everyone!!

I know a kid lives out near Placerville. He's been my boy's best friend since they were 5. Mayson is 14 and just got a well-used CRF150r. They don't have a ton of $$$. Anyone in the Sac area want to help me give his suspension a rebuild? Both ends need seals, oil, probably bushings. I'll pay for the parts.

Just finishing my day at work and read through the majority of this thread... once I read about his parents and what he's been through the tears started rolling, no lie. Anyway its so awesome to see such good especially during these strange times; this really made my day!

P.S.- I sent a little PayPal your way Hammer.

Dirt bikes are neat.

Wow.. just wow. What an absolutely amazing group of people. With everything that gone on this year, and in this young mans life it’s been fair to say 2020 has been a year to be forgotten, but I can say honestly for myself and likely many others that reading all these awesome messages and seeing the photos were what WE needed. You should all be so proud of yourselves and showing this young man that good people exist and are all around. I grew up with a little sister who was put through the operating room 30 times for brain surgery and came out a miracle from people in our community who selflessly donated so much so my family could afford to take her to the mayo clinic. Empathy, kindness and compassion are truly the things that allowed her to become the human she did, and you all are cut from that very same cloth. That same community. I had tears in my eyes reading as well and am going to wake my wife up in the morning to get her take on what we could send to help out this young mans motorcycle adventure. Your all truly amazing people, especially you Hammer. Best thread ever.

Great post. It occurred to me today that Mayson isn’t the only one benefiting from this...I think everyone here is, too.

Although I am obviously using it myself, I have typically been critical of the internet and social media...but this thread has reminded me that like so many other things, it’s how it’s used that matters.

This young man and this thread are a testament to just how great motocross can be.

Slipdog is checking out the bike. Needs a new rear rotor so I used PayPal funds to order a fresh set front and rear.

Plus fresh disk and SPROCKET BOLTS - Torque them right Mayson!

Is it possible for Slipdog to post an update of what all he finds on the bike under disassembly? I am curious of the true state of the bike. I am really excited to see this thing get built!!

Hammer, what are your thoughts on doing a build thread!?

He hasn't really dug into it yet. He's got some suspension due out before the weekend. He did say at first look it's in really decent condition for an 07. Rear rotor bent, headset a little notchy. I expect he will find dry bearings there, maybe recoverable with some cleaning and a re-grease. I'd bet he find the same in the linkage and swingarm, but those are usually not recoverable and we might need to do all new bearings there. I'm sure all the fluids need replaced.

As far as a build thread, I think we could do that if someone local (and there are a couple offers) wants to lead it with Mayson. It's a great opportunity to let him use his new tools to install all these new parts and gain experience and pride.

Well that escalated quickly. An OTHG buddy in Sac will help Mayson do a full strip of the bike. This gentleman happens to own a commercial vehicle paint business, so I think we will see a freshly painted frame in the near future, and a build that uses the tools and parts you all have so generously supplied! Photos will be taken!

Mayson will help on the tear-down and build. He will learn quite a bit I believe.

I haven't seen a good air pressure gauge and a tire pump on the list. Hint hint.......

I'll suggest 2 items. One small, one for someone with deeper pockets.

VP Fuel jug. Everyone needs one.

Set of Tusk wheels. He's got new tubes and tires, sprockets, chain, rotors, and bolts coming. Wheels aren't cheap, but man would a set of black rims with red hubs look bitchin, especially with a fresh red frame and new plastics/graphics! Hey Rocky Mountain - help us out!

Sorry I haven't checked in sooner but it's been a busy week for me. For its age, Mayson's bike is in pretty good condition. I pulled off the front end today and the steering bearings were dry and rusty, especially the lower. I wiped them down, ran some fine Emory around the races, and put some fresh grease on them but they are still notchy and need to be replaced. I will check out the swingarm/linkage when I tear the rear apart but like the front end, I'd assume they've never seen anything but the OEM grease. I will also pop off the tank and valve cover and see how the clearances are looking.

Mayson's grandpa Rick is a really nice guy and seems really blown away and appreciative of all the help that is being offered. We spoke for about an hour when he dropped off the bike and he has a cool background and ties to the sport himself.

Thanks Slipdog! Rick and Mayson's Dad spent quite a bit of time with me and my boy over the years building our tracks, watching Super/Motocross, going to Hangtown, and more. He and his wife are good people. If they run Hangtown this year I am coming down for it come hell or high water.

Let me know what you need and I will order the parts for delivery to you. Maybe we leave it all stripped down and do the frame paint before it goes back together. Especially considering there are races to be pounded out of the head tube.

Wow, this is not what I expected when I clicked on this thread. Pretty unbelievable.

I'm gonna dig around in the garage this weekend and send a few "consumables" Mayson's way to help him keep riding down the road. Not sure what it will be yet, but it will all be new/unopened and stuff he'll be able to use.

Good job Hammer and good job Vital.

Hammer, your kindness reminds me of family friend I’ve known since I was a kid. I lived with my grandparents and he lived across the street from us. He was like a dad to me. He taught me a lot through his example. He left California and moved to Portland when I was 12.
When I left California for the PNW @ 20, he was the first person I looked up. We’ve been friends/family for over 37 years.
I’m sure Mayson will remember what you and everyone else involved has done the rest of his life.
Happy holidays to you and your family.

I agree. My interpretation is that he thinks it's awesome that we're doing this. Doesn't understand how a request for servicing suspension turned into something this incredible, and hopes we do this again.

Let's give people the benefit of the doubt, and keep things positive!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Mayson has a Joe's Racing 0-60psi Tire pressure gauge (same model I use) and a set of Motion Pro tire irons (08-0049) on the way!
I already had these in the cart when I saw he doesn't have a tire pressure gauge Smile .

Update: These and the tire pump will arrive next week.
