Did I tell you about Mayson’s race at Sac Raceway last week(85 beg)?

Here’s the text exchange:

Mayson: 5th. (literally, that’s all he texted)

Me: more than 5 riders? Smile

Mayson: 22

Me: Wow!

...he pulled down top 3 starts both motos also. 👍

Hey, if anyone is heading from NorCal up to Washougal for the OTMX race in early July, and has room for Mayson and his bike, would you be willing to bring him along? I'm gonna have him stay with us through the Washougal Nationals. If not, I'll come down and get him.

A little update to this. Me and my boy JB will come down to Sac over July 4th and get Mayson and his bike. He is going to spend July with us in Portland. We have quite the schedule planned:

July 9-11, OTMX Nationals at Washougal. The boys will get 5 motos over 2 days in the support classes.
Thursday 15th - PIR Thursday Night Motocross
July 17-18 PacWest round 7 at Albany MX
Thursday 22 - Pro Night at PIR - this one is a BLAST!
July 24th - Washougal Nationals!!!

I told him he better start getting in shape cause we are gonna work him. Ted 722 is going to give his CRF150r a once-over ahead of time to make sure it is ready for 10-15 hours of seat time. Should be a hell of a lot of fun!

We drove down yesterday. The boys got together today and rode with Mayson at his house. Then pool time, pizza, and watching Res Bud replays. Tomorrow we head back to Oregon and 3 weeks of moto!

A little historical background. Mayson (L) and my boy JB, 8 years ago on the day we finished building our private track in Shingle Springs, CA. Still friends to this day, even with 600 miles between them. We will recreate this photo at Washougal and Hangtown this year.

And from today, 8 years later, after the last session at Washougal.

If anyone has a line on a decent new-ish YZ125, let me know. NorCal area preferred. Mayson is definitely outgrowing the CRF. It's kinda like watching a gorilla ride a tricycle. He did 5 motos over the weekend at Washougal, and it's clearly time to move to a big frame bike.

Yesterday was a practice day at Albany MX. Some booters out there for sure! We planned to race the PacWest round there today but my boy got hurt at Washougal last weekend so we are taking today off.

Thursday we will be racing Pro Night at PIR, and Saturday we are going to the Washougal Nationals! Mayson has gotten a LOT of seat time these last 2 weeks.

Tonight we are racing Portland International Raceway's Thursday Night Motocross, the 55th anniversary Pro event. Usually a huge event and I think even more so this year. Expect to see quite a few pros in town for the Washougal Nationals trying to claim the holeshot and win $$$. $15,000 purse so it can be a $5k night if you are on it. Local boy Tommy Weecks will likely be there and has been known to kick some ass at this event.

I'll have Mayson (#815 CRF150)with me so stop by and say hello. He's racing 85 Beg and Supermini with my boy (#500 KX105). We are usually parked on the asphalt over near the 3 flag poles. Red F150, black trailer.

Today we are al Albany Mx for the last ride day in Mayson’s visit. He and JB got a LOT of seat time in these 3 weeks with multiple practice days and another 10 gate drops of racing. Add in Pro Night at PIR and the Washougal Nationals that we attended this week and it’s been a great trip. Next up is a week in Hangtown for Amateur Days and the Nationals.

Mayson left his bike with us when he flew back to Sacramento. We will bring it back when we head to Hangtown. In the meantime I put a fresh clutch pack and a new set of rads/hoses on it. Needed both.

He will likely sell it soon and use the funds to move to a 125. He’s outgrown this one.

Probably a 2006+ YZ. Affordable and good for a young rider. There’s been a few decent ones pop up lately on the Sacramento Craigslist.

If you thought this thread was done, think again! We just drove down to Hangtown, pulled Mayson out of school, and headed to the track. Mayson and JB will both race Schoolboy tomorrow. We are parked in the Amateur pits so stop by and say hi. The entire weekend is courtesy of Billy and the Dirt Diggers and we can’t thank them enough!

PS. Damn it is hot. 104 while we were setting up.

Ha! Welcome back to the valley man, where it is 104° AND the air is slowly killing you. Wish I was going to be at the race this weekend, it just didn't work out.
Keep us all updated!

Glad you made it to the Hangtown Motocross Classic as our special guests. Be sure to come introduce yourself to me. I'm easy to spot, I will be the guy in the black and white stripes doing the riders meeting. For Thursday's and Friday's racing I will be the referee so come say hello.

Any luck yet finding Mayson a big bike..?
Good luck boys!
He’s riding his grandpa rick’s 05 crf250r today. Oldie but goodie. I think the plan is to sell the crf150r and put that $$$ into a refresh of the 250f.

Just did practice 1. LOTS of sand brought in and it’s deep and soft. Many rollers and gap doubles out there. Not a setup I’ve ever seen. Big faces and jumps. Def a pro layout.

Yet another great part of this story - the boys got smoked yesterday in Schoolboy. That group was blazing fast. So they wanted to ride 250D today. They went down to sign up and the gal at registration said “Hamershock and Watkins? You’re covered no cost - have fun!!” The Dirt Diggers are taking awesome care of us!!!!! Billy and Mark have stopped by every few hours offering ice and utv rides around the track and going out of their way during what is an absolutely crazy weekend for them.
