See, where I'm from, if you can clear all the jumps you are about to win the Beginner class. Then, you move up to Novice (c,) then Intermediate (b,) then expert/pro (a.)
The fast Novices are usually pretty decent midpack intermediates, as there is a lot of overlap.
One time back when I was a 125 intermediate, I was the only guy in my class so they ran me with the novices. I led for a large chunk of the race, but it was clear I was holding back two of the novices, who were in a titanic battle for the win. I waved them by and let them go at it.

In Texas C class is novice and most of the field will clear the jumps, D class will single a lot of jumps. B class is intermediate and will scrub and clear everything.

125s could save the sport, in the 90s we had 50 bike gates at Texas motoplex near Houston. Now people need 50 different classes with 4 bike gates since some of these bikes come stock with 63hp

This. Usually more entertaining than the pro/ money class. Also +1 on c quad. Just pick out the guy in blue jeans, work boots, clear chest protector from the 90's, and HJC helmet with the visor low or broke off. That's the guy you want to watch. 100% chance of carnage.

If you don’t really want to be a racer, ride the C class forever! It helps support the local racetrack and they are glad to collect your money!

I get that there are people that ride dirt bikes that don’t really want to be all about racing, and roll up to be a hardcore racer and put everything into what it takes to progress to be an A rider.

Local track Mx-express always runs a “c class shootout” also known as the sandbagger classic. Even watched a guy get last place in the first moto Of the 25+ class and pulled a rider mod for the second moto thinking nobody would notice.

It really is amazing how different the C class is here on the west coast vs the rest of the country. Here it’s a serious class, but back there it’s the joke class for beginners.

C class is the largest, fun and dangerous class. Get a bad start is no big deal, you just get to pass more riders. Which is fun. Then sign up for 1 or 2 vet classes. In the late 90,s nobody wanted to miss the start of 4 full gates of 125 c. Vet B classes in the Midwest are pretty big, nobody wants to move up. You can make more winning on raffles, like a new 250f or Grom, generators, pitbikes, etc. Get your entry paid for, from a small business.

I raced that in 2018 and even though I admit I was fucking awful, it was clear as day that half those guys weren't C class. Some of the dudes I saw throughout the year tearing up A/B practice but because they didn't have an OMA/AMA A/B race on their record they were allowed the race. I was disappointed

How big are the B and A classes? If small why won't the promoters or district move those C class riders up? Pressure from parents that they won't show up if forced to move up? Funny thing is in 2-3 years a majority of those C class rippers are no where to be seen and out of the sport.

Whats the difference between C class and B class? At the races tbh it doesn't seem like B class is all that faster then the top C class riders but that could just be me. Anyways I have goals of moving up to B class by the end of the year and want to know what I should focus on to reach them.
Where are you racing Isaac?

If you are heading up to local races at OPMC, the competition won't be as tough.
Some of the bigger series like PAC West and P.R.O. have a lot of entries and that's where you'll see the faster B riders in our area.

If you can already run up front in the C class without riding beyond your skill level, move up and learn the pace.
To be competitive in B, you need to be able to go fast anywhere on the track, not just in one preferred line.

It's harder to do when you're young, or if you have a busy work schedule, but ride as many different tracks as you can.
Find the areas on each track that are toughest for you and try to make them your strengths.

Rode a practice on Saturday in vet class (30+)

65 people in my class. C class was 70+ and a/b had 80 people, they ended up breaking the class up.

I thought vet class was “slower old dudes” but apparently it’s all A class guys that don’t want to compete in A class.

Classes are and always have been a joke.

Seems like everyone here is pointing out the sandbagging.

Is it normal for the track owners to record lap times & bump people who are running lets say 2 laps as fast or faster than the next class up?

So true.

For local amateur Moto...if you can jump all the jumps and you are landing on the downside you are not a C class rider.

C class is for people learning to ride Moto.

How do we get new people into the sport if its death cross even at the local level.

Lorettas as fucked this whole system up IMO.

Go race B class. Typically it’s safer, most if not all guys know how to race and ride.. yeah the top 5 of C class might be fast but the rest will make stupid mistakes that could hurt you.... think goggle strap stuck on helmet shark fin talent level, that is mid-rear pack c class rider talent level.. well it was when I raced.

It would probably become bracket racing at that point. With guys laying up to get a certain time to stay in a specific class.

I think lap time is a great idea. Possibly expensive for some tracks to do you would need litpros or something. But if you sandbag qualifying and then throw down some insane heater during the race I would hope that would be an automatic DQ

That used to be the case until the contingency whores bitched and complained to the promoters that they would stop showing up if they were moved up.

We had the same 3 guys winning every race for 3 years. It was bullshit for the rest of us as there was 5-7 second difference between them and the rest of us. They moved up to intermediate finally and did decent right off the bat, but 1 ended up quitting and the other two went on to get their pro licences. One did decent, making some night shows and the other tried, but didn't make any night shows.

As I just answered to KB228, yes parents complained and said they wouldn't come back because they were making good money in contingency.

The A(Pro) and B(Intermediate) are almost non existent here for the most part, but that is because the fast A and B guys will only pop up every so often just to get a gate drop or two before LL and Mammoth qualifiers.

Yea, it had hit my foot onto the brake and I stalled out. I messed with my choke/fuel setting while on the start and turned it the wrong way so I couldn't fire it up quick. Blush

I was going to race this one in Mammoth in 2018 as well, really thankful I didn't after seeing this vid. CarlinoJoe was #205 off to the left on the start. Scary shit.

Both my boys race B classes both on minis(many tracks don't run age classes around here) and big bikes. My oldest raced half a season in C after moving to big bikes my youngest jumped straight to B from minis. Part of the reason was to stay away from the mix of sketchy riders in C but the downside is so many promoters mix gates C/B which has caused us multiple hospital trips sadly.
To run upfront in a decent B class you need to be in shape & riding often. Downside is often very small B gates at local races since everyone prefers to ride C to chase trophies or takes it more seriously & travels to train/race. A decent B turnout is hit & miss in the NW............

One of the biggest sandbagged classes at Mammoth.

That was gnarly though! I do remember seeing that video. My buddy Steve in #16 on the RMZ.

I raced "30 C" WORCS a couple of years ago after being off of the bike for 15+ years for shits and giggles. Some of those guys should be racing the A or B class. Sandbaggers to say the least. If I get back into it after I have shoulder surgery, I'd race B. There were definitely some squirrely riders in C taking unnecessary risks that nearly took me out on occasion.

frankly this post deserves HOF credit already with those 2 videos... some of those dudes in the videos making brandons first race look like a supercross championship comeback lol.

Most race organizers already use Transponders. Thats how they track laps and rider position..

It would be really simple to have open qualifying and have the race organizer select the classes. and in order to race, you must go out into your practice, and set a lap time so the organizer can sort the lap times and come up with a simple fair gate process.

If you are 5-10 seconds faster or better in your race(depending on turn out), its an auto DQ and a force up to the next division.

Problem solved and would eliminate the Lorettas Heroes that are clearly amazing riders like, Ty Masterpool, wins Schoolboy class on a 125, and the next summer he lines up as a Pro under 1 of the best teams on the planet... come on...

How does that allow for the local guy to compete?? Its a joke.

Ironically he KO'd himself shortly there after, check the rider down at the 5:13 mark. Lucky for me I avoided the initial crash for the most part, could've been way worse. Theres some hidden gems in that video, another guy I had a short battle with totally crossed up off the face of a table in front of me and nearly took us both out. Point being, this class was sketchy as shit.
