Some guys got out in time to preserve that...RC, Stewart, RV, Dungey...Windham, and others. Chad Reed , however has not. It’s not bringing respect & honor to him to enter this season ill prepared...and with his heart obviously (he said as much) in four wheeled racing & not on two any longer. I hope Chad has an epiphany & makes a decision to walk away healthy and with his legacy intact while he still can. I hope Ellie has the guts to tell her husband that it’s time. Historically though...men with the huge egos & personal pride that I’m sure Chad Reed has, suffer humiliation & great loss before they HAVE to walk away. I only hope Reed is an exception to that.

I think it’s possible we might have just seen the last of Chad Reed, I may be wrong but if you have a look at his face on the start line in the LCQ he looked like he was a blank, was this the moment he knew he was done and by 2 laps into the main he made his mind up and called it a day. Ellie is usually very active on social media after the race and gives updates a lot however it’s been very quiet and I think they both it’s time and he will call it very soon if not before or after the next race.

It was noted on Matthes’ STL Review podcast that Reed spent his offseason practicing and racing a Lamborghini. That explains how Kyle Cunningham caught and passed Reed in the LCQ. It’s going to be more of the same if he keeps lining up against much younger competitors who’ve been training to race.

Reed is no longer a fulltime motorcycle racer by any means...and boy it shows. He is going up against people well over a decade younger and these people are riding, practicing fulltime as well that have the hunger. Seriously, what did you people expect? The magic SX fairy to suddenly show up and Reed would ride off into the sunset with a 10 win season?

Tears caused misting.. he could not continue. Was just too emotional moment.

For Reed to be really competitive at his age, we should have been hearing about his intense off season training regimen these past years. It’s doesn’t seem that his focus has been moto fitness. I think he’s relying on his massive talent/experience, but that old body is probably giving him unfamiliar responses and feedback.

Yes, I did not buy the goggle story either. He was 13th on lap 1, so he had decent track position. No social media yet either post-race from 22 or Mrs 22. I think this whole farewell hangs in the balance and I'm guessing there have been some serious talks going on since Saturday night.

He was 13th off the start, held fast for about 4 minutes than dropped anchor before pulling off, my money is on arm pump.

Take away the rider's identity. The braintrust is suggesting a guy that podium'd last year stop embarrassing himself and retire already.

Reed knows exactly where he is at and what he is capable of. I like that he has the passion to keep racing this year.

Who wouldn't have liked to seen Stew or RC make special appearances or race until the new generation of riders takes their crown? Anyone that is a fan of the sport should appreciate him giving it all as long as he is willing.

Agreed. Imagine if rv, rc, dungey, and stew were still lining up. They wouldnt all be at the front like 7-14 years ago, but theyd all bring their own flashes at times as well as theyre iconic presence.

Reeds still out there 13 years after rc retired. Stews been out for 4 years, rv since 14, dungey 3 years and reeds still racing.

I Dont think the sports better with all those guys retired at 26. I understand why they left early, but i also understand why reeds still out there and as a fan i appreciate that he didnt retire in lets say 2009 with millions in the bank never to be heard from in the mx community again.

Good ribs, good goggles etc. this guy just isn’t a top 5 rider! Was a lot of openings that he could have been a fill in rider for but teams passed. Now we know why. Everyone says, look at his autograph line. Great! Just let him show up to sign autographs. His intro lasts longer than he is a top ten threat in a race. Like Reed but this is painful to watch.

So he podiumed in 2019, big deal. What does that have to do with anything??...this is 2020. Take it any way you want to see it, these first two races Reed does not look good as a rider. Hopefully he turns it around real quick because it's not going to get any easier as the season wears on and starts to grind on the body week to week.

Very possibly, Mrstwotwo usually has about 20 posts a day, very noticably quiet since Sat.

I have always been a fan of Chad. It's cool seeing him out there and everything. That being said, these last couple years I feel like his offseasons seemed to be spent looking at future projects (like car racing) and deciding what bike he will be riding at the last minute. I feel like at his age, if he really was looking to run at top potential, he would get that stuff wrapped up early and be riding/training/testing. Not criticising, but I just am not shocked when he comes into the season and is running where he is. Only he can decide when enough is enough, so if he is on the gate, cool. If not, it's been a great run.

Side note: this is by far the worst-looking bike he's ever had. To me, Reed has always had some of the best set-ups, whether it be his Factory Teams, TwoTwo etc. It's just not doing it for me this year, which is a let down.

I don't even think Reed has expectations to be on the podium this year. His ego is honestly the only reason he is out there and I'm not sure what his mindset it. Like everyone has said, come out and sign autographs, have a beer in the stands with some fans, and ride opening ceremonies and maybe even do an on-track ride-through. He wouldn't have one fan less if he just made a fairwell tour sans racing.

His heart doesn't appear to be in the racing and like you said, his bike is awful looking. I was going to make a thread asking what he has on his bike because the suspension looks like the stock stuff or not far from it.

Chad should listen to Kenny’s interview especially the part about how it’s no fun to ride around in 8th. I don’t know how any of you think he’s having fun and doing it for the love of the sport. His ego is keeping him going right now, is he going for the most starts and who’s the past champ who’s been lapped the most times and no I’ve never qualified for a sx race. He is embarrassing himself right now. Where do you guys put him in your fantasy league?

Couldnt find a bigger Mc fan than me, but he hung around past his sell by date as well. He def had a few bad seasons before finally bowing out for good. That being said, I still loved seeing him at the races as I do Reed.

I broke a couple ribs a few years back enduro riding and I had trouble sitting, standing, walking, breathing...........Not a chance that I would have been able to race for a while, it takes a minute to heal up some ribs.

When I was 9, I went over the bars of my Honda 50 after hitting a concrete block, wfo. Broke a rib. My mom ran red lights taking me to the ER. She was flying. So it felt like racing, anyway.
