When was the last time Chad really turned up to a season ready
So if Reed politely handed over the spot he officially earned to to someone that wasn’t quite good enough to take it from legitimately, What “chance” would he be giving them at a future if they weren’t good enough to beat him out of the spot in the first place.

If he wants to race more power to him but the risks are enormous starting mid-pack. If he can get his competitive juices flowing racing cars why not just treat the rest of the year as a goodbye to the fans... show up and sign autographs, get in the booth, participate in practice and do a parade lap before the races. It's great to have a chance for fans to say goodbye and show their respect.

I’m a fan, not a hater...but what we’re witnessing is the result of a man’s pride & ego getting in the way of his legacy as a champion. Some guys got out in time to preserve that...RC, Stewart, RV, Dungey...Windham, and others. Chad Reed , however has not. It’s not bringing respect & honor to him to enter this season ill prepared...and with his heart obviously (he said as much) in four wheeled racing & not on two any longer. I hope Chad has an epiphany & makes a decision to walk away healthy and with his legacy intact while he still can. I hope Ellie has the guts to tell her husband that it’s time. Historically though...men with the huge egos & personal pride that I’m sure Chad Reed has, suffer humiliation & great loss before they HAVE to walk away. I only hope Reed is an exception to that.

I just hope he hangs on till Daytona. I've been hanging on to this jersey I need signed Grinning

In all seriousness, this is what I expected this year after hearing how much he was into the car racing. Sucks, but he's earned the right to do whatever the f be wants.

Any word on why he pulled out?

If he's not more in the mix, at this stage I'd rather see him just do some whips in the opening ceremony and bow out of SX career safely.
He glanced at his pits and thought he saw someone taking his table clothes. Pulled off track to try and haul ass over to catch the suckers. Too bad his haul ass catch them speed was slower than the crooks on foot...

I love I told you so moments Laughing

He has 3 months to get back to the level he was at in Seattle last year. Let's hold off on saying he's done yet...

I don't get this. How exactly is he taking someone else's spot in the main event that might have a future career given the chance?

Everyone that signs up get their turn on track to make the fast 40 for the night show. From there it's on to the heat races and LCQ's.

Reed paid the entry fees, made the fast 40, and put it in the main events. If the other guys want to take his spot, it's simple, they just have to beat him.

That gate needs to be filled and it's the same process for everyone. Whether it's Reed, A-Ray, Chisholm, or some upcoming rider, it's the same for everyone.

Chad, don't listen to these people! Do what you want, you earned it!!!!
Still smooth, just not as fast, but still faster than the large portion of the racers in the world.

I'm a Big Fan. He is gonna be talked about for ever and the stories will be legendary when he is retired imo.
But I am glad he is still out there I really wish I could afford to do his Supercross experience.

Well, seeing as how he DNFed last night, just like he did in Seattle last year, I'd say he's right back on top of his game!

It's kinda like watching Brett Favre play for the Jets that last year. Or any one of many other greats in sport that went out for one last season too many. Chad is clearly not all in. I just hope he doesn't get hurt.

When you are older and let yourself get out of shape, it is like getting injured and never getting back to 100%, you lose a step.

Add in that all he wants to do is race lambos and his head isn’t in it.

Reed has finally moved on.

Good for him.

Never doubt CR22. Poor performance in the first 2 rounds will just fire him up. He thrives on doubters and haters. Also he knows there will be attrition. Steady as she goes for the Reed wagon.

Do I expect a podium? No. I expect him to be on par with Brayton as the series drones on.

He’s the Brett Favre of moto. I’m probably the only one that would’ve chuckled if he was stuck at 249 for eternity.

To me it’s a wider thing than just the fastest guy on the night. There is no doubt Reed is a good rider and yes he made the main but he just pulled out. My point is someone else might have missed out because Reed (quite fairly) beat them that would have put more effort in having made the main than Reed did. I’d just like to see someone with more of a future in the sport get the chance than someone on their way out.

all they have to do is beat him in the heats and LCQ and they can show what a bright future they have.

Pretty much every main event someone ends up pulling out. Last night just so happened to be Reed. It's not like he makes it a regular occurence. Chad is not the type of guy to just give up. I don't think he pulled out because he said to himself "I'm just not where I think I should be".

Sure, Reed is no longer in his prime and hasn't been for a long time, but he loves the sport, loves racing and he's doing it own his own terms with his sponsors. I don't have a problem with him being out there. He earned his spot just like Roczen did.

Would I like to see him do better? Absolutely. Do I think he can? Yes.

As for wanting to see someone with more of a future in the sport than someone on their way out, those guys just need to make it happen for themselves. Chad Reed sure did.

There's a reason Chad still gets the loudest cheers.

Why is anyone questioning this mans heart. There are so many examples to prove this is one of, if not the toughest man to ever ride a dirt bike.

He had some decent crashes in the off season and it is also possible he had a mechanical issue. This two race season out of the longest supercross career ever is no indicator of this mans heart!

CHAD REED IS STILL A HALL OF FAME MOTORCYCLE RACER!

Or, maybe he just enjoy being at the races and riding more than he cares about some bullshit legacy. I see him as a guy who cares a whole lot more about ending things on his terms and enjoying his final season without any pressure than about some intangible legacy or whatever other BS "fans" come up with as a reason for him not to be out there.

Quitting a race is not the way to go out! Look at RC. Reed should bow out gracefully and see what he can do on four wheels.

This is headed for the dumbgeon if you keep making statements like that.

I was at Seattle last year, in the day program he was absolutely crushing the massive whoops. In the pits, signing autographs, the guy was lean and fit. He just had a podium in Detroit a few weeks earlier. Comparing that Seattle 22 to last night's 22, come on man....

Wonder how hard he is training during the week, I’m not sure just relying on his natural talent is going to cut it in this field anymore

lined up on LCQ he looked like a roo in spotlights - looked like shitting himself. As much as I love him, to come in probably the hardest line up of riders from 1-15th in his career and not be ready physically and mentally is foolish.

that guy riding around is not Chad Reed. Said he got severe arm pump round 1, well that can be mentally when you are putting so much pressure on yourself and riding tight.
