Somewhere, in a dimly lit garage, some pee wee dad is making his PW build checklist from info gleaned in this thread.... 😐😄
Well add this one.

Builders would buy the next size larger piston rings than what they were running and then painstakingly file them to use on their piston to get a tighter ring end gap than the actual size that came with the piston.

Have to be a little careful not to cold seize but it could make a tiny difference with a little bit more compression and it is perfectly legal.

Remember the old Yamaha Towney. Similar engine to PW, except it was a two speed auto. They worked well, before all the bitching and crying set in.

I heard from a mate that the guy who protested that was running the illegal bike was dumfounded and totally caught by suprise. Apparently not happy with his engine builder.
Like my mate said who uses an engine builder in a stock class
I talked to someone who saw this happen first hand, he came flying back to the pits telling us about the mess.
I didn't realize that this guy was also the same person who started the protest mess.
The guy was livid from what we were told. They tore his bike down and found the carb had some mods done to it, not sure what. He had no idea the carb was modded and was calling the engine builder and leaving him death threats.
That Pdub life is serious.

I got protested (on my peewee) at a race once cause my baffle fell out half way through the race haha My old man swears he didn't plan it but then realised that it's prob a good plan to have it 'accidentally' fall out haha.. I was too young to know but he tells some stories about mini dads using illegal mods and he used to hate watching me race cheaters..
He reckons he never succumbed to the pressure but I don't know for sure haha (I do really haha)

We only have one "Full Stock class" here in Aus for our Junior National Championship which is the 50 class.

Had my first year with my son in the class last year, approaching year two in a couple of months.

At least they are allowing us to run after market radiators on the KTM 50s this year.

But pretty much everything else has to be genuine stock parts, including clutches.

Can run different tyres, gearing, handle bars (not bar rises though!) and grips and change plastic color, that is about it.

Have to be stock foot pegs, no aftermarket bling.

Full of first year mini dad racers, there is a lot to learn in year one haha.

This is the kind of dumb ass shit that makes me not race moto much, holy hell I can't even believe the amount of dumbassery over a little kids class. Can you imagine sitting there with a straight face as they tear down some 5 year olds bike right in front of him to see if his dumb fuck dad cheated or not and he gets to keep his position? Even better yet, can you imagine being happy to find some stupid ass little mod was done that won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things and having your kid get bumped up a spot for it?

For a group of people who claim to be super tough and bad ass there's a hell of a lot of pussy moves and drama in the moto scene. . .

Cheating in the pee wee class is nothing new. JS7 himself was a DQ first moto 1994 for something found to be illegally done to his PW. He went on too win the other two motos after being protested.

I remember that! His kill switch that shut the bike off if it was dropped was disconnected and taped off.

I took some heat for asking what kind of dickhead dad feels the need to protest and take trophies away from 6 year olds. I can see now the answer is a cheating dad. interesting.

PWs don't have a tipover switch?

They do have a start/run switch, that requires you start it in an ignition-limited mode. Disconnecting this function is pretty common.

I guess it was a tip-over switch, not kill switch (I've never had a pee-wee bike), but the cable was cut in half and the ends taped off, then reconnected with black tape so it looked like it was all whole. James fell and the officials noticed the bike didn't cut off and took the seat and tank off after the first moto and found it and DQ'd him.

Once again, there is no tipover switch.

Under the seat, they are checking for where the start/run switch engages the ignition limiter that limits the bike in both start and run mode (to different ranges). Disconnecting deactivates the switch and gives the bike more rev/power. Its enough of an advantage that a PW with it disconnected would outpull one with it connected by a couple bike lengths over a long straight.

Like Richard Tease mentioned, who uses an engine builder for a stock PW50? The thing has four bolts to remove the cylinder and head. You can do a complete top end in less than 5 minutes!

Either way it looks like Big James was a mini dad who cheated. Wink

This pic is priceless! But you gotta think after all these years with this race in her backyard, Loretta herself would never have imagined seeing a 6 year old with a tore apart YZinger, a wad of cash, and a Knight's shield standing on the front steps of her home. That little guy is true Moto, congrats buddy!

Which is nuts, because James could lap the field on a strider. Note that he was running against LEMs, KTMs, and Cobras on his "stock" PW

It wasn’t a pretty week at the aussies in Penguin, see that bike from Thailand had electric start on his 50?

I wouldn’t like to go through all that with the 50s again in scrutineering area. All I had to do was escort the top 3 bikes to the pull down area and make sure nothing was changed with the bikes. Had some 50 parent in my face complaining oh did someone protest us? Did someone think my bike is illegal? Who protested us etc...

I’m like dude your bike is in the top 3 and we require to pull down every top 3 finisher, I know nothing and all my job is to escort your bike from Parc ferme to the pull down area. Does this have to be so hard?

I've never understood the concept of LL's myself, like they say money ruins everything. I guess back in the day when it was racer against racer it was all good, but now with teams sponsoring kids on full on factory bikes against guys with aftermarket exhausts what's equal about that? Not mention hundreds of kids/young adults getting out of school and not being able to do simple math because dad told them they were the next "James Stewart" so go ride and your sister can do your homework. Or families having three mortgages on there house to keep racing and putting all that stress on a child to "make it". Look at the Villopoto family for example. This sport is supposed to FUN, nothing about racing or even trying to get to LL's sounds fun to me. Bunch of people standing around with there hands out is what I see. Flame on!

You’ve obviously never been to Loretta Lynn’s. Cause if you had you would certainly understand the concept of the event. Lorettas is family and motocross coming together in its finest form. Yes there’s factory sponsors, lots of money invested, and family’s risking all there finances to be apart of it....but it’s the greatest motocross vacation in the world a family can strive to be apart of. You cannot put a price on the memories made, there priceless. I’ve been to nationals and supercross races from coast to coast and there’s nothing like Loretta’s!

At big kart racing events, the top 5 (or more) get their entire engines torn down in every class. Engine makes a bigger difference than actual driver however unlike motocross.
8/8/2019 11:07am
There have been factory supported amateur racers at Lorettas since the first year it started. The factory guys used to race the next year model bikes at Ponca in the mod classes, before anyone else had even seen them. Factories were giving bikes, parts, expense accounts, gear etc. in 1982, nothing new.

And that is the purpose of the protested PW holding cell that DC posted. Unless things have changed since Kyle McKenzie podiumed in 1994 on a PW in a field of LEM's and Cobra's. The referee asked Kyle's grandfather what he was going to do between moto2 and 3 to the bike. He replied nothing and it was agreed that mxsports would impound the bike until the third moto, kyle would race the 3rd moto under protest and the tear down would be after the 3rd moto. By the way, Kyle was legal and his family left the ranch with close to $500 (in 1994 protest fee $).
