CEO pay and share holders has nothing to do with it. All you do is reverse engineer products and reproduce them. Even if CEOs made 50k a year and the entire company was american based, someone in china will order something and break out the calipers to remake it cheaper and undercut us anyways. If companies produced everything here it would be even more expensive and likely wouldnt sell as much. Look at harbor freight tools vs american made snap on or cornwell tools. Why buy a nice american $500 4 ton jack when harbor freight has them on sale for $80 and they're actually great jacks? What if that $500 jack was made in china and costs $200 at the store? Sure the profit margin is less but youll sell way more because the quality is a bit better but the price isnt DRASTICALLY more expensive. People will consider buying them.

Until some kind of international patent law comes into play, this will always be a problem. Right now ARC levers isnt able to do a whole lot about some chinese dudes in their garage copying their product and selling it on ebay for $20.
There was a time when not having every fucking gadget and doo dad that exists in its latest form didn't mean anything to people. They wanted to work their 40 hour week, drive home to their family and enjoy the weekend with having beers and bbq'ing with neighbors and friends.

Oh, and business owners weren't beholden to shareholders and the company bottom line. It was about making the country a better place.

Of course I'm talking post industrial revolution and the advent of trade unions.

With the "real" product you're paying the extra money for quality control and accountability, the knock off is usually virtually the same nowadays but you're rolling the dice on no screw ups occuring during the manufacturing process etc. etc. Because with the legit product it will get picked up and scrapped where as the Ebay special is getting shipped to you regardless.

As bad as China is for American companies in regards to knock offs, Amazon in America is way more insidious.

Amazon obviously sells both Amazon Branded items and actual branded items. With Amazon the testing of the market is done through Amazon by independent companies, with zero risk to Amazon, and 100% of the sell through data going directly to Amazon. Where Amazon becomes insidious is that when it sees a product selling well on its platform, it reverse engineers it, creates its own version for cheaper with no R&D (like china), but then is able to market it, push it forward in a search and sell the knock off product in the same way, through the same channels to the same people that were there to buy the originals. With AliExpress or Ebay knockoffs, at least you know you are going to a non genuine sources, Amazon is the genuine and non genuine sources that controls what you see and influences what you buy.

Amazon would be like Tucker Rocky producing exact replicas of Alpinestars boots for half the money and ensuring all the searches yielded their knockoff at the top of the search. In motocross, at least we know it because of the brand, but with general products, BBQs, toys, home goods, whatever - the brand doesnt matter.

Amazon also buys companies purely to shut them down and have the website URL take you to an Amazon page... Its so much more fucked that Ali

Support the companies that keep our tiny, insignificant hobby alive and well. Buy the real thing from your local dealer or your favorite online retailer. These are the people that are investing money and time back into our sport. And not only because it makes business sense, but because they love it just as much as we do.

Also, these knock-off products are very, very unlikely to be from the same factories as the legitimate stuff. Overseas vendors are not going to jeopardize their close, longstanding, profitable relationships with gear companies just so they can sell some product through the back door for pennies on the dollar. Genuine motocross apparel is not as cheap to produce as you might think.

Anyway, I'll step down from my soapbox.
Um yeah, it actually is as cheap as you think to produce. Really cheap. Companies need to pay for marketing and salaries, rent, etc. Less than a buck to make a pair of gloves, sell them for $35. Believe it.

Not sure the material. I added loctite to all the fasteners. Took forever to get here, contacted seller and he sent me another one due to delay. A day later the first arrived in the mail so I have another back up coming. I will be keeping an eye on the first few rides and see how it holds up.
Honestly that is brave, I would not risk the engine cases (and myself) because of a chain guide issue... Feel free to keep us updated on the durability etc, it would be cool to know. On clothes, it also looks the same but sometimes it would not pass the EU/US tests to sell here in a shop. Personally I would risk it but i have also read some nasty stories for instance with shoes that were giving long and painful allergies etc ; I think it is solved now but we never know 100% of what we get in these type of deals.

What is crazy is it may actually sound like a decent deal to have spare parts (wheels, disks, etc).

If someone pulls the trigger, let us know Smile

I actually think it did exist, but many people tend to think it was better in the past.

Actually i think that time was actually much tougher.

Nowadays most people make a better living, live in bigger and/or much more confortable houses, have more security, can travel anywhere or do whatever, have access to a ton of technology in healthcare to keep them healthy, can live in the middle of nowhere and still have all the information and work thanks to internet, and the list go on. I have quite often epic discussions with some of my friends who are not happy and feel they are in a bad situation whereas they have absolutely everything (but maybe the latest E class while they already have a nice 3 series). It is like when people think it is better abroad, well I did that all my 20's and I can tell you we are nowhere better than in "our" city with family and friends.

Back to the topic, about the copyright, yes I am of course not promoting people copying stuffs.

Everyone claims to hate thieves. But it's pretty obvious that many will rationalize theft if it ends up benefiting them......

It feels identical to the real Acerbis guide I had. Same dimensions, same consistency. The hardware sucked so I used quality fasteners I had from other chain guides. I know several other people running the same guide with zero issues. It’s the only knock off part I own and I really doubt I will have any issues with it. My brand new Cycra hand guard snapped the plastic reinforcement on the flag on a minor tip over the other day. Wonder if it’s a product of the US or China?

The TM material seems to be better but it’s also better than the real Acerbis guide. I will update tomorrow how it holds up.

Funny how selective people can be about products made offshore or imitation. I bet everyone here commenting is guilty of funding all of the things they are preaching.

Exactly...it's sad. It takes personal honor and some resolve to accept that some things are simply out of our financial reach. I'd love a Lambo, but certainly wouldn't buy a counterfeit copy made in China. Extreme example, but I can't stand thieves...

Nah.

Colors aside, that's a Yamaha knockoff. Exact copy of a DT/WR 200 motor.

If the option was there, I would happily pay more to AVOID chinese junk. The less that is made by them, the better. If only there were more people who valued home produced goods.

You have the option, so go for it. See how that works out for you. And just because a product is made offshore does not mean it’s junk. Tons of products made outside of NA are great. All about the QC, spec and materials used. Lots of junk is being produced all over the western world. Have you not ridden a KTM or Beta lately?😂 Driven a US car or truck? Ridden a Harley?

Not a Moto product but I'm guilty of buying my 12 year old son "professional game jersey's". They are quality items, even better than the "real" ones. Perforated with stitched numbers for less than $20 yet the ones they sell in the mall are $70. Who's the thief here, I guess me, not the one who's gouging the customer. Just my .02c.
