I used to think I was too cool for a site lap/ warm up lap whatever you want to call it. I wouldn't go full speed but close enough. I jump on the track right before a descent sized double. Well I look over and lined up next to the track is the previous practice group ( C and D riders) watching... back to how cool i am, i realize i don't need to any speed i'll just seat bounce the shit out of this thing and then put on a burner. Well i didn't notice they just watered and i spin all the way up the face and down goes the front end. I went from thinking i'm a bad ass to being on a ground with a broken collarbone and an AC separation..... all within 10 seconds of hitting the track.

This is usually my thoughts right before and after said wadding up of bike and body:

“Whew my wife is NOT gonna be happy!”

Exactly.

I had my engine quit on a 90 footer, jumped off and had myself a nice little solo flight.

I distinctly remember thinking “this hasn’t happened before” then “I’m up really high” and finally “this is gonna fucking hurt”

I landed on the downside feet first and managed to slide down on my left ass cheek. Surprisingly I managed to avoid injury altogether aside from some bruising.

i must have smacked my head pretty bad on this one but I remember it pretty clearly after I got home and rested. It was a pretty hard pack track, and i remember my bike was acting sometime sluggish (16 KTM 125, powervalve sticking problems) but i went into a corner, started to rail the berm where a 15 foot double was right out of the corner, I had it pretty down pat. I had to seatbounce it because a couple feet after was a 50 foot triple that i was stretching out to clear. I came out of the corner and pegged it and held it wide up to the face when the bike bogged out and i felt the rear wheel start to chatter up the face. There was nothing I could do as the rear end kicked up and kicked me over the bars. I don't remember how I landed but I remember waking up in the middle of the track face down, I put up my arm so hopefully anyone coming could see me and make a quick move to not run me over. My arm stayed up for maybe a second before it gave up. I couldn't feel my legs, no tingling, no pain, just couldn't move them. I must've cartwheeled pretty bad because my bike was 15 feet away from me. I barely crawled to the edge when a track worker slowly dragged me off. The thought of me being paralyzed was scary as fuck. I couldn't believe it, My life was fucked in my eyes from there on out. Finally after about 5 minutes of laying there I was able to get up under my own power and pick my bike up and ride it back to the pits. I was pretty messed up that day and it took me a couple weeks to actually want to go ride again.

Another one was when I was riding the winter am series in FL at Dade City and there was a roller then a small man made step up. I had been battling with another kid this whole moto and knew If I beat him I would've got second overall for the day with some fast company. I messed up my scrub over the roller and landed fully pinned crossrutted up the face of that step up. Dad says I cartwheeled twice down the landing before I finally come to a stop. Me being the dumb 16 year old I am all i could think about what was getting up and beating that kid as I heard him screaming up the section next to me. I got up with my bars bent at about a 180 degree angle, got it started and rode the whole next section which was a double-triple SX style section, no clue how the F I did all that. Got back to the truck and immediately laid down on the backseat feeling like I was still flying through the air.

First hand: reading my front number plate upside down, thinking this is not going to end well. It didn’t.

Second hand: Guy at Club MX practice track lands sketchy off the first table, then whiskeys up the next face at a 45° angle, gets ejected, wadds up bad, says afterward “ I knew I was in trouble when I saw my shadow”

When I had my big one last year I remember it vividly. I remember the ground coming up and all I could think was that at this point, this is going to be bad, but there’s nothing I can do I’m just along for the ride. Woke up a few minutes later after having some sort of very comforting, euphoric dream and then the pain/reality set in.

My buddy caught me running out of talent a few weeks ago. This was the first time I’ve seen myself eat it in 3rd person, too.
I think a consistent thought I do have when I’m about to crash, though, is my mom telling me that she wished I’d fish more and ride less, and that I’m too old to be riding dirt bikes (I’m 38). Parents just don’t understand...

I was thinking, "I wonder what's on the menu at the hospital tonight?"

The moment after you hit the dirt, ring your bell, as you are trying to figure what happened you notice a weird metal taste and smell in your mouth. Where does that come from????Shocked Blush Huh
I always remember that taste from when I was a youngster riding skateboards on the road with no helmet. Can't remember the taste from crashing my brains out riding moto with a helmet on though. Damage already done I suppose.
I do remember that quiet, surene moment as you're flying through the air, less bike with enough time to think "this is going to hurt!" And then the violent thud, thrash and tumble as you hit the dirt.
I don't miss that.

Yep! I couldn't see the face of the jump at all, but just thought fuck it, it's not a big jump, just pin it. But I hit a hole on the face, lost traction and spun the rear wheel. I think about 10 people ate shit on this jump, that day.
Where do you ride around Stockholm?

Arlanda, Väsby, Uringe are my go to tracks in Stockholm, mainly Väsby and Arlanda as they are pretty close to both work and home. What about you?

Arlanda is my favourite track in Stockholm, I try to ride there every Wednesday. Sometimes väsby, but I don't really like hard pack tracks, I'm a member at åsätra, but I didn't ride there much last year. If I have time I try to do some training motos in the forest at lövsättra.

Last time I had an epic get off I just remember being glad a fence post wasn't going through my mind.

"Relax". Go into floppy rag doll mode when it becomes obvious a yard sale is about to occur. It works. Knock on wood.

what i'm thinking:"fuck i'not gonna save it fuck going to bend my handlebar"
what i shout: "uuuhh"
i think it helps assorbing the impact or i dont know, i've seen doing this in tennis when the racket hits the ball and the player shouts "aaah" or "eeeh".
might be my idea but until now it worked lol
on big crashes, on small crashes in corners i just think "fuck let's hope that the bike doesn't shut off, why did i crash fuck"

Here's mine: Riding with my brother...we were just horsing around doing this stupid little tabletop that I swear couldn't have been 10' across. I don't even know how I lost it, but I remember being about 6' above the ground, looking down and the last thing I thought was "WOW - this is probably going to hurt. Haven't crashed in a while."

I woke up in an MRI machine. The whole right side of my head is metal/screws (ala WP, though not nearly as epic as his).
yesterday hit a tree root in 3rd in the woods, slipped and went straight towards a bunch of trees. Last thing I remember was looking at the trees and thinking, "shit this is gonna hurt". Was knocked out, but when I woke up got up and walked away. No idea how I manage to miss every single tree but was very lucky, and only ended up bruising my ribs shoulders and hips, with no breaks Smile

Racing an enduro and slowed down for what I thought was a log, turned out to be a shadow.....Pissed of at myself for wasting time I went around the next corner, looked up and went yep that’s a shadow up ahead. Pinned it, hit a foot high log (wasn’t a shadow this time) broke both wrists and dislocated my shoulder.

One of the worst I remember was the first time I was back on a bike after a few months of with a broken tib/fib. I was just out at the local track spinning some easy laps when I hit a nasty rut on a tabletop that sent me into an instant frontflip, I have no idea how that could happen or what I hit, I just remember going oh fuck, here we go again before hitting the deck hard. Lukily no trip to the hospital, just a broken helmet and a bent bike.

One mid air get off I had was when another racer over jumped. As I was mid flight I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw his tires, then felt something hit my left arm, it was his swing arm. I am not 100% how it happened but next thing I know I'm not with the bike any longer and I am facing backwards so I can't see the ground and I remember being very scared thinking this will hurt. Slammed the ground so hard my vision was blurry and as I stood up fell right back down. Good thing the bike was flooded and I couldn't restart it. While mid flight it felt like time stood still, strangest feeling ever.

Never had much time to think a real clear thought but I do take note, in the moment, of all the weird grunts and groans you make, involuntarily, from hitting the earth.

I was 4th gear pinned down a long straight in a race, second moto. I was taking the far outermost line and fixing to click 5th when all of a sudden I hit a g-out that threw me in to a 1, 2, over the bars tank slapper.

During that “oh shit” moment I told myself to just hit and roll this one out. Wrong! My 45yo ass didn’t roll, I just hit the ground hard with a thud like dropping a bag of concrete. It fucked my neck up so badly I can’t ride again b/c of the damage it did to it. I was sure I was going to roll and tumble like I used to years ago. And can still feel that “umph” of that impact. lol

As the front end dropped out of my hands in a set of whoops, I said to myself “Oh no, this is not happening!” Hit the ground a whoop later in a tuck, broke neck, scapula, and thumb.
