I graduated in 07 and there was 2 other kids that raced. There were others that rode bikes but like someone mentioned earlier didnt even know what they rode just rode in pits. Pretty sad that to me this sport is turning into you have to have money to race or ride somewhat competively. When I was in high school I bought a brand new rmz 250f for 5200 bucks out the door! Now that same bike new is I believe almost 7,000 thats alot of inflation for the very little development that suzuki has done. although gas was high at 2.04 a gallon so I guess thats just as bad. This sport will not survive with overpriced technology.

El Camino Real in Woodland Hills, CA, we had 2 factory riders with Kenny Zahrt and Greg Robertson and I would guess a dozen other racers. BMX at lunchtime was cool...then moved to foothills of NorCl where there were 4 of us...

Not even race just ride ?
I feel like most teenagers these days dont know anything about Motocross/supercross

Graduated with 500 with a high school of around 2000 kids in Syracuse NY. I was the only kid who raced that I knew of. In 1997 went to the RM cup in Oklahoma at Cooperland then hit a big race in PA on the way back to New York and missed the first two weeks of my freshman year... when I finally showed up my teachers were like wtf??? when I told them I traveled to race motocross they looked at me like I had two heads

Graduated high school 2009. There were 3-5 others in my whole high school that rode (around 500 people).

Most just rode trails, but 2 others besides me raced in AMA District 5.


Local tracks: Pleasure Valley Raceway (run by Jeff Cernic), Field of Dreams.

Back in the 70's here in Washington State we had high school motocross. It was a state-wide MX race high school vs high school. Just like football state champs.

The race was held at the old Puyallup MX track which was also on the Trans Am circuit back then.

I raced it in 74', 75' and 76' our high school took 2nd in state one yr.

Senior in high school here. We have 2 (including myself) who actually race. Not a lot of others even know what motocross really is. I'm sure the staff loves seeing me in the parking lot!

Me, my brother and our friend that lived 2 consessions over. All 3 of us rode/raced. A lot of good times.

Living on a farm he had a small track so we got to ride a bunch during the week.

I was in highschool from 78-82 and there were about 7 or 8 of us that rode MX in the local fields....but my brother and I, and 2 other guys, were the only ones that raced. Escape Country/Racing World, Saddleback, the Dunes, OCIR, Carlsbad, Corona, Ascot. Some of our other local friends would come out and watch us, but they were too scared to sign up! I always walked a little taller the next day at school after winning the night before at OCIR! Great memories!!!!

There were 4 of us that raced (harescramble/enduro) but there were at least 10 other guys that rode. Most started racing later on. Out of the people who were at my high school during my senior year, there is around 15 of us that ride and race now. I am located in Southern Ohio so there really isn't anything else to do.

High School 2004-2008. Went to two different HS's in the same valley. First HS, a bunch of dudes had bikes, but they were mostly all the bros that drove around with the bikes in the back of their trucks. A few of us rode regularly and raced. Maybe six of us?

Second HS that I graduated from, we had probably 15-20 guys that rode, mostly desert riders that rode a few weekends a year and about four of us that raced and rode a lot.

Feel like my school had an okay amount. Couple pretty fast guys who did it for fun and the bigger group who had ttr 125s and what not. Cunningham went to my school but was home schooled before he got to high school.

But didn't see bikes loaded up ready to go after school much though. I know I didn't like doing that, because who knows what happens to it while you're in class.

I went to high school in the late 1970s. Burroughs High School in little ole Ridgecrest, California had to have had at least 50 guys that rode and raced in those days. With all that desert around us, I'm sure you can imagine it was very popular back then. We definitely had some fast guys. 5 that I can think of that turned pro. Jeff Black, Andy Stanford (I think that was his name), Brian Vargus, (I heard Brian went pro, but I'm not 100% sure about that), and some other names that escape me right now. My friend's son grew up to race pro also, but is no longer doing it. That would be Rhett Urseth. Rhett tore up his hand at an SX a few years back and I think has quit riding pro. I'll have to pull out a yearbook and scan some pictures. There are some particularly good ones of guys at Mammoth in the late 1970s.

Went to two high schools here in Michigan, one in a suburb of Detroit and one a little less urban. The first one we had about 7-8 kids that had motocross bikes, probably half actually raced some. The second school probably had about the same number of kids, but almost all raced and at a higher level, 3 of the kids were on Team Dynamic.
We live in a rural area now and my son’s high school has probably 10 kids with dirt bikes and only 2-3 that have lined up for a race.

I graduated in 73,lots of guys had dirtbikes but only a few raced,most notable alumni from my school was "Bad " Brad Wallace who famously rode a bultaco down main hall on the last day of school one year and rode pro locally and nationaly and a few years later "Kawboy" Billy Liles of national and gp fame. Fun thread,thanks for reviving it.

Was only 3 of us in about 700. I was the only one that made it to the pro class. Had Honda support in '79 and '82. That was a very long time ago....

Graduated 2003. I can legitimately only remember 4 people who raced... 2 of those were my brother and I. Probably another 6-8 people who just bro'd around with bikes.

Graduated 05 in illinois. I was the only one that rode let alone raced at my school of 1900. Had a 3 or 4 people people get bikes but never did anything with em.

One kid bought my bike. It was mint fully rebuilt top and bottom. Came out to the track one day he never shifted out of 1st or 2nd. I told him and his dad he's gonna blow the motor like that. Sure enough I see him there 2 weeks later same shit. End of the day im done. I'm watching him ride and boom piston and rod. Dad comes up freaking out on me how the bikes a pos and i needed to give the money back. Owner of the track came over before we started swinging. Told him the same thing i did. They left throwing a temper tantrum. Ended up whoopin the kids ass on Monday at school. I offered to rebuild the motor for free labor if they paid for parts. Told him i had a bunch of spare parts and what ever i didn't have they needed to buy. He declined and started swinging for the fences. It's still funny to me to this day.
