Tomac on Arlington.

Idk it is weird. I thought he’d be crushing it on the new kawi. RV had a steer with the back tire set up I believe with a stiff shock from what I remember reading. Tomacs Honda was choppered out according to the quick video about his geico Honda.

Crashing last week might have been a good thing. I'm not sure how his confidence would be if Webb came from 8th to pass him when he led the race at one point. That's never happened to him before, to my knowledge, ever since he has become the Tomac we know now. Also, the amount of umms these guys do in interviews is so cringe worthy. You'd think after so many interviews they'd be better at it.
Crashing wasn't a good thing and if Webb passed him while he was leading he will still have 2nd place points not 12th so of course crashing wasn't a good thing. Pinch and neither is fading to 12th.

I see someone struggles with reading more into what I said instead of just looking at the surface.

He’s a tricky guy to figure out, definitely seemed as if his mind was elsewhere during that interview, almost looking annoyed at points. He had that look of “just get on with it” like I do when my kids drag out going to bed or brushing their teeth.

Hope he gets back on it soon the guy is amazing to watch when the stars align.

No worse for his confidence then Kroc passing him straight up a few laps into the main. You are looking too deep if his confidence gets rattled by someone else winning and being on fire then Tomac might as well retire and with your way of thinking Kroc must be down right suicidal after leading all those laps and losing it in the last 1 foot of the race.
I doubt Kroc is anything but pissed and motivated so it wont happen again. Tomac knows how to win and no it is still is not better if he crashed so he would not get passed straight up and hurt his confidence, I bet he is pissed too and doing something about it, will it work ? who knows.

After seeing the interview on RDL, for me it is clear it is a bike/setup issue. He does not feel comfortable on it. He try to push through and the bike surprised him, andnhe backed it down and rode in "safe mode" since he does not know when the bike will bite back.
If it was about him, he would have pushed through.

In the interview he is also making absolutely no excuses or even trying to explain. You only do that if you comfortable know you are not the problem.

I would have liked to see him on the 2018 for a race or two ?

It's a brand new bike and they don't have much in the way of previous base settings. It'll be an ongoing work in progress, but I agree with what he said. He doesn't' look comfortable. Maybe this new KX isn't a rear steering bike like the last platform. I wouldn't be surprised come outdoors if he isn't in the same boat trying to get it set up to his liking.

Agreed. He doesnt seam happy. I️ don’t understand it if it’s the bike setup. Everyone loves the ‘19. Better motor. Better handling with more front end bias (which Tomac likes). It would be one thing of the bike sucked but that’s not the case. How hard could it be to make it work for him??
New is not always better, plenty of examples of that. Bagget, Anderson, Cairoli, McElrath are riding a half mix of 2018 2019 KTM/Husky.
2-3 clicks off and that a second a lap and confidence.

Remember Roczen when he went from factory triple clamps back to stock on the RMZ and started killing it instead of just like Eli go backwards when he started in the lead.

I love how when a rider struggles everyone says bike setup. It’s so funny.

That was an awkward interview.
Eli hates to be interviewed, and it always shows. Unless he’s a zillion points ahead, he looks uncomfortable as hell. Like “I’m not doing good, and I need to do better.”

Matthes has said before they Kaw makes everybody follow a set-up similar to what RV had. I can't believe that is still the case- but as someone pointed out, Tomac seems to have that same "early turn, get on the gas" thing going on as RV did. But he seems to be thrashing himself backwards while everybody else has slower corner entry.

If he doesnt crash he either wins or pushes kenny to the win.

Imo marvin and kennys mid to end of the race was pathetic. No way they should have leet cooper catch them. He didnt do anything spectacular at all just kept going the same pace.

IMO Eli would not have gotten passed by cooper if he doesnt go down and maintains the pace he was running.

"Comfortable" has always been Eli's (and other guy's) go-to interview allusion to not liking bike setup.
2/23/2019 11:05am
It takes Eli 2 years to dial a bike in for him. He hated his honda 450 first year, got it dialed next year by time outdoors came. Same thing on kawi, sucked first year got it better second year and even better by the third year. Then he gets another all new bike... I dont expect big things till next year.

Barring any physical problems, I’m pretty sure I know what’s going between his ears from a neuroscience standpoint. it’s beyond his control. If it was something he could control, he would have willed himself to fix long by now. I’m confident I have the professional training to help him dramatically improve (free of charge). If anyone from the Tomac camp reads this, feel free to DM me.

The most surprising thing is that people are still surprised when Tomac puts in a performance like he did last week.

It's pretty funny to read what some of you guys write about him being broken mentally. Perfect example of the "what have you done for me lately" mentality. This guy is an outdoor national champion and has won more SX races than most guys out there. Before his fall last week he was battling for first with Roczen and looked pretty damn good. His qualifying times have been excellent. I'm not saying I know what's wrong with him but I also know he won't come out and throw the team under the bus if the bike isn't feeling right and he certainly won't acknowledge any physical issues he may be dealing with. He said it himself on the WTS how admitting to any injuries only benefits your competition. Maybe that's why his interview is awkward because he's holding back what the truth really is.

I have faith in Eli and know he's only 1 solid win way from everyone jumping back on his bandwagon.

Kenny slowed down... not too hard to comprehend. He slowed down too much and it bit him..or got tired.

I dont think it would have happened to eli as we know his fitness.

But thats just my opinion.

Look at how much better Webb is on a bike that "suits him". He has not lit it up at all in the 450s till changing bikes...and look at him now. Look at Tomac when he was on Honda. For the first third of his last season on that bike, he was not good. Then they got it dialed in, and he was very good. Same for outdoors. He was unreal. It is all about confidence and comfort on the bike. There is not something suddenly wrong with Tomac. Some riders just have bigger swings in their speed when the bike is not right for them vs being right for them.

I think it's the people doing the interviews that's the issue. He seemed fine on the Whiskey Throttle show.

"Do you think Ken is the guy to be aiming for this year?"

"Well, no, Cooper is the guy that's winning right now"

As much crazy shit that is going on in these rider's heads on race day and they have to answer blatantly dumb ass questions. I wouldn't want to be interviewed by these people either.

By the time they get it figured out they will have to move on to the next generation bike. Would like to see him be able to compete on the 18.

It took him a while to get used to the kawi after changing from Honda, and it has been said that the 19 kawi does not have the normal kawi traits. Maybe he is going to take some time to gel with the all new machine...
