Whilst I agree prize money could/ should be alot higher, last place still gets paid $34,000 for approx 20 weeks work doing something they love. Some people don't get paid that in a year doing what they hate!

Just making the main event every weekend, you'd be extremely lucky to break even with purse money alone. Add in 250 entry per event, fuel to get to each round, hotel, bike parts, credentials for mechanics, food etc etc. On top of that, you're not factoring in taxes. You are correct about doing what they love though, which is why they're probably still doing it. Being on the grandest stage at the pinnacle of the sport deserves much more than to break even, in my opinion.

why would Feld increase the prizemoney, when they are getting way more riders than they need, all paying to show up,

and I mean you would expect the AMA to stand up for the riders and members, but of course, we all know they won't do that,

I agree, it's indeed pathetic and doesn't help to create a larger rider base, culture etc same as a bike prices but this is a show and and business and we're in the land of the free so unless you can do something better than them and you can convince the stakeholders that you can do it better than feld I guess there's not much more you can do.

If you want to make dirt bikes greater than ever just figure a way to ctrl c crtl v the European (Spain, England, Germany, Italy) soccer business model.

Also it looks like the upper end of a renting a stadium is $100K a day including security. We'll just assume that's what feld pays everyday for the entire week they rent it out. Or 700K a race. So just under $12 mill to rent the stadiums and have security all year. That still leaves over $12mill to pay salaries, transport equipment, pay insurance, ect.
In this case why not reducing the rent by 2 or 3 days and giving the difference to the riders ?

Reducing the rent by 2 days would quadruple the purse money ! Maybe an area to look at, not really for the factory riders but for sure it would support the privateers !

Don’t push to hard. Feld owns all the Monster Truck Teams. Just a thought.

Assuming a top 10 450 rider needs to earn enough to pay his way as a privateer with no sponsorship or contingency monies.

If every rider qualifies for the night show gets his $250 back circa 10k per round.

Paying positions in the top 20 would be fairly scaled like below.

20 250
19 500
18 750
17 1000
16 1250
15 1500
14 2000
13 2500
12 3000
11 3500
10 4250
9 5000
8 5750
7 6500
6 7250
5 8000
4 9000
3 10000
2 11500
1 13000

Purse money for a round would be $106500 for the 450,s

Say half for 250 class and total per round is $159750 or $2,715,750 per annum prize money. 250,s no entry fee as it’s a feeder class/regional and to support the main show.

Potentially achievable but again you would need to be consistently top 10 in the 450 class to have an income of 75k ish to pay your own way including a few bikes, maintenance and travel.

All assuming 20k for 2 bikes, 30k for expenses and around 15k parts/rebuild budget. No mechanic and a contingency fund of 5k for unknowns. The remaining 5k for for RV maintenance. That would maybe cover a top 10 rider with very little support.

There were three names on the main event results that I did not recognize as having some type of decent ride and salary. The guys will be alright. Joey Savatgy finished 16th. What's his salary, at least $200k?

I don't think the privateers are paying 100% of there way, back 15yrs ago I knew a fast local guy who had his pro card and would qualify for Atlanta and St. Louis nearly every year. Sometimes Indy too. He never paid for his bikes or entry fee, the shop he worked for did and wrote it off on there taxes. It was advertisement for them to have there shop bike on TV. Given the guy finished 18-22 at the rounds it was still exposure for them.

If you are good enough to qualify for SX odds are you aren't paying consumer prices for anything except, food, gas, hotels etc. I know B level woods guys who get tires for 80% off retail no way a guy good enough to have a pro card is paying retail for anything bike related.

Don't get me wrong I'm against privateers just stating my opinion on the costs. I think all the riders should get more money regardless of what the costs are or are not. These guys have skills that 98% of the population do not, they risk there lives to do this and should be paid better from Feld.

They should just shit the purse for the factory guys and start it from the first rider whos not on an official factory or factory supported team. Those guys aren't missing it compared to even the guys like Dean or Malcolm.

Hahaha, calm down cunty.

I'm not normally that way inclined, although I don't get how people fire up about shit like that but also wanna call police, ambulances and fire-bashers when they need it. But I digress....

Seriously though, as if Roczen needs that. He probably made 100K bonuses from that 2nd place, and his salary is what, 5M over 3 years or some shit? But if it went to Lamay? How many more races or hotels can Gardner make if he gets 16K?

That's assuming you get last place every time. It's a bunch of races to make races though. Way more unpredictable than that.

When you're making fuck all, it's nice to know how much fuck all you're making.

Don't forget the astronomic amount of money they're going to make off their amateur days this year. I had a decent crew ready to come watch Sunday, then found out those ass clowns want $25 just to come in and watch a bunch of embarrassingly bad amateurs like myself.Laughing Feld can EABOD.

The prize money is crap and I cant see it changing significantly to a point whereby the genuine privateer can cover costs and maybe even go home with a little extra.

It's time they let riders sell their own merchandise.

Also keep in mind most of the costs of stadium rentals, dirt, porta-potties, etc., are split between Supercross and Monster Jam, both Feld properties that run on consecutive weekends at the same venue.

I think this is one of those subjects that depends on your status....outside looking in ? Purse is pathetic....Insider making $ off current system ? everything is good.....riders will continue to be taken advantage of until a union is formed for collective bargaining.......

Why should riders care how much Feld is supposed to make? Why should Feld Care how much a rider makes from them? A rising tide and whatever happens happens. We get it all here, but best of luck to the jester.
i love this scary mentality you hear spouted out of an under informed, highly privileged roughly 18 year old.

who in the fuck are you to say how much anyone is allowed to make?

--

obviously the purses are crazy out of whack, there are options to help with this situation.

sitting around and debating what a company is allowed to make is not one such option.

They can give a fan 1 million dollars? Divide the 1 million over 17 races and now the winner's purse is 75k.
The fact the winner purse has not been raised every year when they raise the ticket and racer participation fees?
The racers are leaving millions on the table for the promoter because they will not stick together as one voice.
The talent is controlled like sheep. If the racers fight the promoter they can expect to be canned in favor of the B racers.
McGrath writes about this crap 20 years ago in his book, nothing has changed for a very long time.
lol the next union rabble rouser will be slapped with a hot sample and disappear into 2 years of moto limbo like brock tickle.

between james and tickle, it's clear that's the best place to bury someone and maybe never hear from them again-----at the very least they'll be irrelevant by the time they're released by wada or usada or w/e

THAT'D be the perfect place to put away any union trouble maker

The purse is a joke. Go ahead and try and find some info out there on Feld's income- I couldn't find a single thing (they are private). Here is what it should be:

1. Justin Barcia | $120,000
2. Ken Roczen | $60,000
3. Eli Tomac | $43,000
4. Dean Wilson | $33,000
5. Cooper Webb | $30,500
6. Aaron Plessinger | $28,000
7. Malcolm Stewart | $26,500
8. Marvin Musquin | $25,500
9. Chad Reed | $25,000
10. Cole Seely | $24,500

Hell, by the looks of the 450 payback, if you were near the back of the pack on a 250, you probably had to pay money instead of getting some.

That's almost as funny as the guy above thinking that the AMA should look out for the racers best interests.

I see what you are saying, but how much are these guys spending to try and make that $34,000? It's probably safe to say close to the same, if not more!

12,000 for 1st is $192,000 possible over the 16 rounds. Thats not including contingency, bonus from your team, and your team salary/sponsorships.
