Wiseco pistons are all I ever ran in my two strokes and Kawi's. Never a piston related issue, plus they are made in USA. A lot of people do not realize Wisecos usually run a bit more cylinder wall clearence due to the expansion of the FORGED piston. A lot of failures are due to not warming the bike up for proper clearence...A cold engine is a sad engine. Their clutch baskets are the best in the business, how can you beat a lifetime warranty?

Wiseco cranks on the other hand I would not touch with your dick. Cheap Chinese junk, same with Hot Rods.
That's good to hear I just ordered a Wiseco cam chain for my kx450. Bought this bike rod snapped just below piston came back around and destroyed bottom end. Only thing I could salvage was transmisdion head & cams. Rod big end bearing looked good, and it's a OEM crank. So I put new OEM crank back in. Bit more but Probaly worth it after reading these stories. I have ran hot rod cranks before with good luck.

Had a customer ask me about the difference between the one sized Wiseco and the A and B sizes of the new Pro-X that was replacing the Wiseco. I measured his Pro-x and showed him it was 53.95mm and he could get a .94 or .96 depending on his cyl size and what clearance he wanted to run. I then measured his 18hr Wiseco and it was 53.87mm... what? I have another 20hr Wiseco on a shelf and it measured 53.95. Not the first time I've seen this with Wiseco, just never that far off.

the reason you pay more from a dealer , is that he will stand behind what he sells.. Ebay doesnt give a shit , so thats the trade off with the money you save.

Think of it as insurance.

Its the same as paying a guy to build your motor... if it shits itself in an hour, you have comeback... if you do it yourself, you got nothing.

I run the Wiseco (forged)Pro-lite pistons in my RM's and have for years. I just warm the bike up until I feel the rad cap starting to get warm. No issues what so ever. I will never run anything else. No idea about their cranks though.

I'm sad to say my Wiseco crank just went. Lower rod bearing and left crank bearing have play in it. The hour meter says 31 hours on it. So I just got off the phone with Wiseco and had a ten second conversation, which went like this. Told him what had happened, he asked where did I buy it. I got it on ebay. We don't handle third party warranties. End of conversation. So what they are saying is I should have bought it from them directly and paid even more for their garbage product. Yes I'm bashing Wiseco. They suck. I would be more than happy to send in the crank and bearings so that they can take a look for themselves and supply the purchase date. Should have bought oem....
I've had previous experience with Wiseco products failing on me before. What happened to me was the rod basically snapped in half and grenaded the entire engine. Though when I contacted Wiseco about the problem, they requested I send them the broken rod. Upon inspection they found that it had a manufacturer defect. With that said they acknowledged their faulty product and cut me a check for all of the effected parts that they couldn't provide for me. (ie. valves, bearings, cylinder, etc.) They provided me with a new piston, rod, and crank. Since then with everything installed I've had zero issues, and the bike absolutely rips. This was over a year ago as well.

I put a single ring Wiseco "GP" piston in my bike.

It lasted for exactly 1 lap. I won't get within a mile of that pot metal Taiwanese shit ever again. Cast Japanese pistons only.

Don't worry though. some guy who rides a 98 YZ250 in the woods at walking pace, 3 times a year, will be along soon to tell you about how his Wiseco has lasted him since 2005.
Interesting, I've heard nothing but great things about the 808 piston if that is one you are talking about.

I don't believe Randy is available to respond to you, but yes it was the 808 series piston.

31 hours and how many are we expecting to get out of a 250f crank? Warranty? Really?

I've had good luck with both Wiseco and ProX pistons in the past. My buddy likes to buy his parts off ebay and man has it cost him. I think the last top end was a "numara" or something. Lasted all of 45 minutes. Buyer beware.

That's because Namura is garbage and they stand behind it like it's garbage. First hand experience. Angry

I got a namura piston for my 2000 kx250 im rebuilding for $15 from an acquaintance. I was going to strictly use it to check cylinder tolerances; when I got it I couldnt believe what a piece of shit it looked like. Id never trust a piston that looked like it was made from melted pepsi cans. Oddly enough, I actually saw the guy I got it from put a namura piston in a two stroke 500 polaris four wheeler, and it ran forever! The cylinder was so worn that the piston knocked and banged like a blender, but about a year later we checked the piston for a laugh and it was still in great shape. I guess even a shit manufacturer gets at least one right occasionally.

Sorry to bring this back however I read through all the posts and 75% of the failures written were before 2008 which was before wiseco made the quality checks and standards they have now

I bought a brand new Hinson clutch basket from a friend that never fitted it.

Within 1 season, I had worn off the hard plating and notched the basket.

I called hinson, and I got the same response. they didn't even want to see the pics.

Ironically, I never had the same issue with the wiseco basket I replaced it with!
So you bought a Hinson clutch basket from a friend, and you expected Hinson to warranty the part??!!

Priceless.

Lifetime guarantee is lifetime guarantee isn't it?

How did Hinson know he bought it off a friend, he could've been the original owner for all they know.

Thank you for those words of wisdom.. but where did I write that I expected anything? My motivation for calling was to see if they wanted to examine one of their products that had failed prematurely.

The funny thing was their explanation that the hard anodizing had gone bad from it sitting in the box for a year lol

That's what you get when you try Wiseco aka "SEIZE-CO". Just like running AMSOIL..don't do it. Better off running Yamalube in everything.

The level of entitlement on this board is hilarious.

So what Hinson is saying, only the original buyer can claim for the lifetime guarantee. What if the "original" buyer lets 10 of his friends use his bike? Does that not count? What's the difference between 10 people riding the bike or 2 people owning the bike? If they promote a lifetime guarantee, it doesn't matter how many people have owned the basket. It's not about being entitled it's about a company boasting that their product will last forever.

It’s pretty damn simple. The original owner gets the lifetime guarantee. If his Hinson clutch breaks when a friend is riding the bike, he just doesn’t tell Hinson that little fact. He gets a new clutch basket and Hinson looks like the good guy for honoring a (very simple) lifetime guarantee.

The entitlement is you expecting Hinson to warranty a part you bought from a friend.

I agree. Nearly every one of those "Lifetime Warranties" only belongs to the original purchaser with the original invoice. Not 10 owners abusing it for a decade... Think about it kids. They expect you to own that bike for about 2-3 years max and replace it with a new one because contingency works with newer bikes only 2 years old. So you'll have to buy a new one for a new bike before that part would fail at say 5 years down the road. Make any sense yet?
