Any reason to not buy a rower instead? Better overall body workout and Concept 2s can be found fairly cheap with little hours on them... Issue related to space?

I thought about that too. They just take up a ton of room. I don’t have the space for it.
Have you seen these? I believe 722 and Roczen/Ciancirulo use one and they don't take up as much space as a regular rowing machine.

I also vote for: Get a nice road/mountain bike and a smart trainer and use that. Then you can use it outdoors.

This setup cost me. 1200.00
It's a basic cyclo cross bike. Fits great. I can take it on trails and race cyclo cross or flip the tires to road tires and take it for long road rides. I do for the winter time recommend a indoor trainer tire. They make it very quite. Tire changes take about 10 minutes or you could do a complete set of cheap wheels, gearset and brake disks like i did for less than $450.00. Wheel swaps take 5 minutes or less.
Get zwift its a awesome app like everyone says. Racing on it is fun. Also suffer fest is good to. The options are endless really with this. Also if you can find a used set of good rollers those are fun to sometimea it works your balance and core more.

I got a 40# wheel spin bike for $50 and spin class videos on youtube are free. They are a handful of good spin bikes on amazon for $300-$500

If you’re gonna spend 2k on a bike. Spend $1200 on a nice left over model year road bike (like a felt z85) fitted to you and get a smart trainer for 800-1000. Get a subscription to zwift in He winter. And ride outside in the summer.

That peloton is insane expensive. And you’re limited to your house. Before you know it you’ll be hanging clothes off it. Or dusting it off in the corner of a room. But for $40 a month sub? Jeeeez. And for how long ? What happens when the fad dies off in a year and they shut the servers down? Then what ?
You're totally wrong about the Peloton Einstein.
We've had ours for over a year and we love it. Plus they're well into their 3rd year and growing. There was over 1200 riders in my class a few days ago. Used Pelotons are going for close to new prices. If you think it's a fad, don't buy one.

My wife and I are in our early 60's and have been into fitness since our 20's. I've been running since 1982 and always considered myself very fit. I used to be a hardcore all weather runner, but in my mid fifties I said the hell with that, joined a gym and hit the treadmill in the winter.

Then we got the Peloton. So I dropped the gym, which made the monthly fee a push for me. Plus for 39 a month you can have up to 4 rider profiles. Unlike a gym.
I soon found all that running wasn't working all my leg muscles. Since we've had the bike my legs are in much better shape and it's made a huge difference in my stamina riding moto. I still run but mix it in with spinning. Which is nothing like outdoor cycling since you never coast. The 45 minute classes kick my ass.

They're the real deal. The classes are fun and the instructors are awesome. They really push you and so does the leader board. But just like any workout equipment or routine, if you're not committed you won't stay with it.

Do your research. I did a lot, for too long. Read the reviews and see if it works for you. My wife and I would do it again in a second. we look at it as an investment in our health. It's an awesome workout with a ton of choices.

Anyone have experience with the indoor stationary bikes? I’m trying to decide between the Nordictrack, ProForm or Peloton. I know they all have different models but I think they’re essentially the same. One thing I hate is the “subscription” fee. I’m more than willing to spend $2k+ on a bike but for some reason it makes me squirm thinking about a monthly subscription fee Dry

Anyways, anyone have insight between the three or any other brands?

I have had my Lemond Rev Master pro for about 8 years.....I love it , but also hate it more than anything on planet Earth , because of the punishment it has put me through. Honestly , that thing has kicked my ass more times than I can count! Awesome investment.

I have a Keiser M3, it’s a great spin bike. The new M3i has wireless compatibility for use of the popular indoor cycling apps.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner (Stolen from Wes)

That covers it all for cardio. With some (small) weights, you are set.

I went a little different route. I have less than 1K invested though. I bought a used specialized Allez and a set of rollers. It’s a full body workout having to balance while pedaling. Plus when the weather is nice I can ride on the road. Plans to get a concept 2 rower down the road.

Go for a Wahoo kicker or a computrainer off of eBay or craigslist. Having a computer control the resistance makes all the difference in the world in keeping it interesting. Then use zwift, trainer road, ergvideo, rouvy, and such for the software. All are way cheaper per month than peloton.

I had 16k on my computrainer before going to a kickr. (Ct is for sale in Seattle - $400). The things are bulletproof.

A Schwinn Air Dyne is an amazing piece of exercise equipment. Strength, cardio, upper, lower body. Sometimes I ride for 45 minutes at 20 mph and occasionally for 2 hours at about 18mph. Watch an outdoor national while in the basement riding. Sometimes I do four 15 minute intervals mixed in with weight training.

If you just try one out somewhere you will say F this. They are no joke at first.

Are there any spinning studios close to you, I would check one of them out if there are. You can go month to month usually with them and for me it provides a much better atmosphere than my boring house. I work out of my home so it gives me an escape. Also I feel I get a much better workout in the class atmosphere as it is pretty competitive.

Than when the weather is nice I pretty much road bike.

Add in some rowing 3 times a week as well and you will be set.

I’m sure there are some spinning classes. I work for a police department and we have our own gym I go to a few days a week. However with two very young kids and a wife who works long hours as well it gets difficult getting away from the house. I am more so looking for something quiet and easily accessible that I can hop on the two or three days a week I may not be able to make it into the gym. I am also training for some extreme enduros this coming year so I’ve got to stay on top of my fitness no matter how hard it is with our work schedules and kid schedules.
If you got a road bike, and Fluid trainer, you could bring it to work.. Most racers use their road bikes, as theyre setup for their geometry/efficiency, same clip in pedals/shoes etc. Ive got a used kinetic fluid trainer $50, and a $500 used gravel/cyclocross bike. after that you just need a crank sensor and hub sensor from garmin ($50) to ride on zwift or trainer road. get out the fan and the towel.. check out the ramp test or an 8min FTP test, on trainer road or zwift and see what ya think..lol. zwift gives free trials of 25k every month.
You have to make it fun, cause these apps will push you to your limit.

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually ended up going with a Spinner L7 brand. I paid around $600 for it and it comes with a one year subscription to their SpinTV which was really cool. I couldn’t justify paying $2000 plus $40 per month for the competitions subscription. I’ll mainly use the bike on the days I can’t get to the gym so I think this one will be perfect for me.

I just use my road bike with a cheap fluid trainer and peloton on my iPad. I love peloton they also added running and boot camp stuff plus other types of workouts to it. I would love to have one of their bikes but it's a joke what they cost

That's good you found something. Try the peloton app if you haven't already I think you get a week free then 20 bucks a month after that

I agree, I just started using Zwift recently and it is much better than any indoor exercise bike I have previously had or have used at a gym.

I just put my stock wheel set back on my road bike and mounted a red trainer tire on the stock rear wheel, and picked up a fluid smart trainer that I got on sale for just over $200 (didn't want to go high end on a trainer initially in case I didn't like this concept). I also have my Garmin speed and cadence sensors on the bike and this Zwift experiences works better than I expected.

I visit the forums pretty much every day, and happen to be the lead developer of the Expresso GO bike.

It's a fully interactive commercial exercise bike with 45 unique environments, plus game levels, each in 3D, with varied elevation gain and scenery, with the ability to steer, shift gears, monitor your heart rate, and track your progress, You can ride against a ghost of one of your previous rides, or against the riders at the top of the leaderboards. Levels range from 1 to over 20 miles in length. Savage Revenge is over 20 miles, and quite intense!

The goal is to motivate athletes to train hard through immersion, rather than distraction, as so many of our competitors do.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Can I attach my mountain bike to a Wahoo Kickr and achive the same workout as a road bike?

Your not technically moving so performance does not come into play correct? Or am I missing something?

With Wahoo & Zwift I could race the Tour De France on a Mt. bike ?

I started rowing too but I’d say do both. Break it up. I been rowing and watching football. Or a 30 minute show keeping pace at 15-35 meters. also I got a good handlebars setup with springs. When I reset, or slide forward I usually squeeze the levers to simulate going into a corner. Not sure if it helps much but I do get armpump.

I think if you’re just doin rigorous exercise for 30 minutes a day it helps.

But like another poster said zwift really makes the time fly and being competitive helps out a lot. almost makes ya never wanna ride outside again because no risk of getting clocked by a car.

With the rollers you get balance training but no hills. With the smart trainers you get hill simulation but don’t gotta balance.. losses and gains on not platforms..... And I would imagine you can hook up your mountain bike. Not sure tho.....machine doesn’t know what’s hooked up to the cogs. So I’d say yea probably ?

Lots of options for sure. We love our Peloton and it's an awesome workout.
But just like everything else, it all about how much effort you put towards being fit.

Whatever motivates you and gets your heart rate up is the correct answer for you. Pick one and enjoy!!

Love our Peloton! But like everything in life, you get what you put in. It's up to you to put the effort in no matter what you prefer.
