One of my best bud's ( Wardy ) has had an issue these past few years , with his hands going numb and falling asleep while he's riding. It doesn't happen every time , but maybe 50% of the time , and it bugs him pretty bad.
I believe he runs just the stock setup on his bars , on a 14' Kawi 450 and a 16' KTM 150SX. Is there certain bar / grips / triple clamps....anything , that may help this? He reads quite a bit here , but for the life of me , I can't get him to sign up. So I thought I'd ask for him. It's ruined some of his ride day's , and I'm just seeing if maybe you guys can help.

Good luck to your buddy!
Circulation could be a major issue.
According to one of Dan Villopoto's great friends, Dan had told him he was having trouble with his hand falling asleep just a week ago while riding. Dan had been suffering from as much as 95% blockage in his arteries before his fatal fall.

Luckily my wife is a registered nurse with lots of doctor friends. Next thing I know Im being referred to a neurologist to have whats called a nerve conduction study performed. Warning, its not fun. They insert a punch of needles in your arms and hands and pass electrical current through them and measure the speed in which your nerves react.
I was diagnosed with medium carpal tunnel syndrome at 31 years old. Both arms. Both hands. I was given a couple of options including surgery. They wanted to perform a CT scan on my neck and spine because they felt I may have bulging discs and may need to have disc surgery. As soon as they said surgery I bounced. I know better than to get surgery unless its absolutely necessary.
So I did some research, made some phone calls, asked around and found that the blocking of the nerves was occurring in my neck. No doubt there. I was also experiencing an incredibly great deal of pain and discomfort in my neck, upper back, and lower back. Something was wrong. Seriously wrong.
I had been going to different massage places looking for relief with no luck. Then I finally found a lady who specializes in serious deep tissue massage. After my first session without me telling her anything other than where I had pain, she asked me if I had issues with my limbs going numb. VOILA!!!! holy shit! I told her everything. 4-6 sessions in a month later and my carpal tunnel was basically gone. no more numb. no more pain. no more arm pump. no more back pain.
Basically what was explained to me is we dont stretch enough. We dont do any kind of maintenance on our muscles. The muscle tissue becomes so constricted and knotted up the muscle fibers literally twist and pull the nerves and block the signals being sent because muscle tissue is so dense it basically kinks your nerves. It all happens up in your neck and upper back, especially under the shoulder blades. My lower back pain was because my glutes and hamstrings were so tight and knotted up it was literally pulling my lower back muscles down and causing them to be way too tight. She also spent hours on my arms and wrists. Best of all? NO SURGERY!
Find a good masseuse and/or physical therapist. After going through what I went through I found more and more people like me who had similar stories. Sorry for the novel.
That was for double surgery, I had it in both wrists. I went from not being able to ride or even drive my car for more than 5 minutes without my hands going totally numb and burning like hell before the surgery to no numbness to speak of after.
I will say this, though. It's been 5-6 years since the surgery and it's begun to feel like I may be having the same issue come back. Just recently my hands have started going numb again.
He makes a less the. 1/4” incision and inserts a tool that he designed that is like a hook with a scalpal in the curve. He then using an ultrasound guides the device up to top of ligament and the. Pulls it down to cut. I got a local and a butterfly bandaid. No scar, no stitch and back on bike in two weeks. People fly in from all over do to the short recovery time. He has also trained other drs to do it so maybe they can refer someone in your area. You can also do both hands and still be able to wipe your ass, take a shower etc. what is important is that you dont wait. If you do you can do irreparable damage to the median nerve and surgery won’t fix it.
If it is nerves, try hanging from a pull up bar and raising 1 knee at a time repeatedly, you will usually hear plenty of popping in your back and hips, it's cheaper and easier (and often more effective) than a chiropractor.
If it's overuse and tendon sheath damage, you'll need a Dr. or as the link above, ligament flossing may help.
I had a friend who had the same problem, and his manhood was also turning orange? It turned out OK, he just had to stop eating Cheetos while watching porn
Unfortunately, the bar maker Twisted Engineering may be belly up?
BRP rubber mount bar mounts with or without the stabilizer (which will help loosen your grip)
These are now under the name Flexgrip. These require running a throttle grip on both sides (so 2 sets of grips to make one)
