Coldenhoff has been informed that there is no ride for him at factory ktm, and Jonass has said on multiple occasions he wants to move up regardless of winning the title.

Imo the only question will be who will get the 250 factory ktm ride.
If its up to me i'm giving Sanaye a hard look.

Too early for Rene Hofer from factory 125 in the EMX?

JVH and Anstie still have good years left in them, but GP teams want the next big thing.. if JVH was going to win, he would have done by now, great rider, but Seewer might seem a better bet. Anstie has had his chances, but his injuries this year have done for him , after his 2017 season and MXoN results, it was looking good, but that is soon forgotten.

Jasikonis was unreal on the Suzuki, he is still very young and he has the potential.

Its a tough world out there.

I think jasikonis with factory equipment can do real good, he showed it with suzuki and i believe he is on 21?. Anstie will land on a good team but it wont be a factory team.

Jasikonis is young, he has that in his corner for sure. Is Paulin guaranteed to stay at Husky? Seewer getting the bump to Rinaldi is no surprise, he's been better than JVH all season but JVH has not been super-healthy. Maybe Yamaha just swaps them? Tonus seems to be in a bad spot, no races in 2018 and needing a deal I believe. If Bogers can't ride there is an opening at HRC obviously, who goes there? Maybe Anstie? Coldenhoff? Either guy would be a reasonable #2 to Gajser.

In MX2 I believe Darian Sanayei only has one year before aging out so I'd think a team like KTM chooses a guy they can work with a bit longer. Too bad Darian was hurt this year, if he was winning a moto here and there it would have improved his odds of getting on a better bike. I can appreciate the work Dixon does to get his bikes fast, but they are grenades.

Seems like MXGP and AMA have one thing in common and that is in general too many good 450 riders and not enough rides. Any time a top 250 rider moves up it creates a log jam. I guess guys like Kevin Strijbos and Josh Grant will pay the price the most, if they want to continue at all it is unlikely.

Well thats the disadvantage of the age rule, without it you would have seen some guys out of the group of coldenhoff, nagl, bobry, searle, etc move back and challenge for the title in mx2. Now they have to scramble for a job

I'm I the only one that thinks the EMX250 class should be age restricted rather than MX2?

Probably.

You forget that they are separate championships regardless of whether or not EMX250 is seen as a feeder class to MX2, it is still its own championship. The age rule is definitely flawed with forcing riders up, some riders just don't get on with 450's and are small bore specialists, especially when good rides are at a premium and there are 3 active world champions & 5 Runner ups all still in the class.

Well, regardless of what happened back then i don't think Glenn Coldenhoff is in a position to say no.

You have guys like Bobryshev and Nagl relying on private sponsors for an income. I am a big fan of Coldenhoff, but he is very replaceable from a teams perspective.

During the live streams of the races I've heard Malin say twice now that Coldenhoff is strongly rumoured to be on white bikes next year...

You're not the only one. A world championship series should not be age restricted.

If you can’t hang with Cairoli or Herlings, isn’t your value pretty diminished in the MXGPs?

I actually think the age rule hurts MX commercially. The main dutch sport tv network (NOS) did not show the MX2 races when Herlings was winning because they see it as a junior championship due to the age limit. Now that he is in MXGP they do show the MXGP races. And 10 years ago they did show those races when Marc de reuver was battling for wins in 125cc (when it was considered a non-restricted world championship).

you can see how age restrictions can damaged careers

as has been stated here and a known fact some guys are better suited to smaller capacity bikes,

but
these days that makes them " less of rider" how dumb is that.?

Sad, but true.
There is probably only one more person in the whole world that could hang with these two at present.

If that happends and Jonass wants that 250 title back, then there is still room for Coldenhoff... Or someone else...

What if Jonass moves up, who will get that 250 spot? Hofner,Jacobi,Mewse,Beaton or...?

While it sounds a bit wild, Hofer taking over Jonass' ride next year when Jonass moves up might happen. Heard that rumor after Kegums I think.

For Hofer I think this is too fast. Jacobi will be 22 in october, he's way too old, they won't take him for 1 season.
Mewse could be an option, but he has had some chances in the past and isn't consistent enough if you ask me.
Beaton has already signed with factory Husqvarna.

Maybe KTM should take Mathys Boisrame. He's young and talented and does pretty good in EMX250 now on a shitty Honda... Other option would be Ben Watson.

Personnally I think it would be a good move.

Even if he is around 15-20 in his rookie season, he will see how fast he has to go, fight with experienced/non crazy riders, and ride on well prep safer tracks.

My opinion on the 125 and EMX2 is indeed balanced: it is a great formula but the riders are taking the track with way too much time in between, so they go 100% on a very dfferent track each time, which I think is really unsafe. Add to that the fact that they ride in a pack where many try to take their competitors out as winning or performing in these classes is very important to make a career, I would say that if Hofer is so important/promising for KTM's future in MX2 then I would make him race in a "safer" environment directly in MX2.

I understand your thinking, but if you don't want him in em250 why not put the kid at a supported team first (like LRT).

I mean if you put him at the factory team it essentially means that KTM is 1 injury (Prado) away from not winning in 2019.

If Sanaye has only 1 year left imo he would be perfect for KTM. A very good #2 (got 2 podiums in 6 races before an injury) with upside to challenge for more (more experience and better bike). And would make way for Hofer in 2020. Put Hofer in EMX250 or a supported MX2 team (or a 3rd bike at the factory team).

The only way it would make sense is if they have an even better rider lined up for the spot(You could argue for JVH).
Agree

Is Paulin on the white bike again next year? Talented rider, but surely Factory team's patience can't hold out any longer with him

What is the beef on Paulin ?

Anyway, Anstie at HRC probably. Hopefully he can do better than 13th in the standings ...

Paulin should come to the US, I think he could win some moto's.

Not sure if any team could realistically expect more out of Paulin. He's in the mix for "best of the rest" every weekend and at some point he will probably win a moto. He's good with the media and has a good fan base. I know he has seemed closer to Cairoli in the past, and looked like a guy who was going to win a title but in the time since Cairoli has stepped his game up to answer the younger guys. Obviously Paulin was already at his best level to match Cairoli a few years back.

You do have to take into account that Max has much better equipment. I'm not sure that I would get rid of Max either, but I'm not super surprised by the decision. Max will be okay, there's only a handful of people at the end of each season that have a podium to their name, and he's now one of them, that should go a long way to getting him a ride for next year. Even if he can't get a ride in MXGP, Max is one of the few guys who could probably get a ride in the US somewhere instead. He's shown enough SX wise over the years that I'm sure someone would be interested
Maybe back on a 250. Can't see any of the top teams signing him.
6/29/2018 10:08am
Hofer has been riding a lot on the 250 already. He leads the ADAC series in front of Dylan Walsh and a bunch of other guys that are already EMX250 regulars and have been running up front there, and everyone knows how good the EMX250 top guys really compare to MX2 riders. KTM has moved their top prospects (Pootjes and Prado and then Mewse and Haarup on Huskys) straight from 125s to under the factory rig before, even if they have started from the EMX250 class before moving up mid season. Considering Hofer is Austrian on an Austrian bike that is backed by an Austrian energy drink company it’s not hard to connect the dots there.

No beef with Paulin at all, he has style for days, is a true progressional, I’ve personally met him on his good days and bad days, and much to everyone’s belief about our French brothers, he’s been a true gentlemen throughout. I’m a big fan. I also say to any young Mx riders - watch and learn from him.

Mx is sadly a business now, and in a team managers shoes, would keep Anstie

Coldenhoff to Standing Construct for '19 and '20 according to motocross nederland.

Good deal for both imo, Coldenhoff has the certainty of 2 years on a bike he is familiar with, and GC is an upgrade for Standin Construct to Strijbos and Guillod.

They will get a bunch of top 10's, some top 5's and if they have some luck a podium. Imo the best you can hope for as a non-factory team.

Does Lieber have a contract for next year with kawa? Otherwise would be a good fit for JVH, next to Desalle at kawa
