Sounds like he was a little frustrated and outlined the problems he had with the '18 model. That's a lot of dough to spend and have that many problems. You troll much?

Look up welding depth to width ratio cracking on those frame cracks
Select welding parameters and technique to produce a weld bead with an adequate depth to width ratio, or with sufficient throat thickness (fillet weld), to ensure the weld bead has sufficient resistance to the solidification stresses (recommend a depth to width ratio of at least 0.5:1).http://www.twi-global.com/technical-knowledge/job-knowledge/defects-solidification-cracking-044/

But is he wrong?

Frenchie comes on here with a fairly detailed list of issues as well as a few solutions and gets called a troll. Seems to me he backed up most of his stuff unlike the other thousand trolls who have come before.

Shit like this is why this site is hard to read anymore in the off season.

Guy comes in here and posts legitimate technical questions about a new motocross bike and you children start fucking with him.

sure, the Race Shop would be the better place to post a tech question, but why give this guy so much bullshit?

You got that right. Hilarious when a active troll cares so much about another trolls join date. #getafuckinglife

Agreed on the air filter. Ran one sand race and realized that I better change it after every moto when I saw the build up on the filter and around it. I have switched to a Twin Air and feel better that at least it won't blow through the porous foam of the stock and GYTR filters....now I just need to buy 2 more!

My starter so far has been fine but I did have it once when it was hard to start. Was getting nothing when cranking over but didnt wind out the starter for more than 3 or 4 seconds either. Let it sit for 30 seconds and it fired right up. Vapor issues?

Thanks for posting your issues and I'll keep an eye out on that fuel pump.

Annnnd doesn't that defeat the purpose of having electric start for quick restarts during a race so-as to not lose the extra time spent kicking the bike to life? 30 seconds wether you're an ama pro or novice would kill any chance at a good result right? Not trolling just saying ..... Also these fuel pump issues render a bike useless when they go out and are super expensive to replace. It's unfortunate a part as simple as a fuel petcock that is nearly foolproof and bulletproof has to be replaced with a fuel pump due to fuel injection that's creating a potential weak point that has otherwise never been a real concern. And yes I know I'm about 10 years behind on making this comment but it seems to me that as progress in technology Roll on, electrical gremlins that cannot be fixed on a trail for remedied the day of a race unless you have the part are now a reality that is a paramount concern to any rider or racer that they no longer have control over when they go bad to fix.

But hey I'm still writing to strokes so I necessarily don't have a leg to stand on here actually scratch that I started writing for strokes and went back to the two-stroke because of its simplicity fun and retains my love for riding nothing against four stroke riders but I think I'm off the train on this stuff LOL
My husky battery died before 10 hours, the stock batteries are shit regardless.

Change to a WPS battery and worry no more.

Not related to the OP's problems, but I've seen a few of the Yamaha's with cracked frames. It's been going on for years now, with seemingly nothing being done to cure the problem.

I can only agree with MaxFrench with the electrical starter problem. 16 m/h from new and starter doesnt work at all. At the moment I am waiting for starter clutch, wich cost 300 usd new. I believe this will be a weak spot on a new bike. It is sad that yamaha's warranty can not change this part. Never had any problems with yamahas till now, but no more yami for next year rides.

Theres lemons with every brand, you prolly got one. Multiple problems are not one of yams objectives..
Frame cracking would appear to be one issue.
Of course no one can know who has had a hand on a bike and there are plenty who shouldnt.

All these manufacturers have random issues. It's how they deal with it to keep people with the brand that makes the difference. Unless they don't give a shit

Local guy here in Ohio is dealing with the same scenario. Yamaha stood behind their product and corrected the issue.

Whoever thinks Yamaha is reliable is drinking The Jody W punch. My buddy runs the service dept in a big socal dealership and he says he cringes when he sees Yamahas come in for service. He says they are the most expensive to fix and the older carbed yzf's he says stay away from. Like dont ever buy one. Carb/starting issues

There's always someone who posts that proves they have no clue of what they are talking about. Congratulations.

I've been working on and riding every brand since the mid 70s and NOTHING, besides maybe the pre 2007 Hondas, come close to Yamaha reliability. And both Honda and Yamaha both have the cheapest parts out of all the manufacturers. Nice try.

And all the while, this was a fake post, made by a fake OP (where the topic details are irrelevant compared to activity) that was monetized to do so. Hell, every post made could be complete jibberish, just so that many people would respond and as many times as possible. Everyone loses but the OP.

I was thinking the same thing, Can we not take someone at their dam word? So just because the guy has not posted alot he supposed to sit there and go well maybe I could help some others avoid these issues but oh wait I better not because I don’t post a lot and Im not cool enough to offer any help. I didn’t see him bash Yahama at all, I saw him state issues he has had, some of which others validated and then saw him say the bike was awesome to ride and a great chassis and power match. That’s a pretty dam good complement in my book.

Where can I sign up to make easy cash writing bad shit about bike brands ? I see comments about this but can’t for the life of me find anyone offering money for doing it. I’d love to grab some of this easy dough, needing a new carb, pipe, and 150 kit for my wife’s ttr125. Donations accepted, BBR preferd!

Hey, do you think you may troll Vital in the next 24 hours?

If you are not a paid poster who constantly trolls this site for paid posters, then you are one sad sack of shit with a pinkey as your third leg. Maybe you should take your compensation from trolling imaginary trolls and pay for a good time and ease the fuck up.

My buddy broke his frame after 2 hours on his new -18.
Nothing major, but the cast aluminium ear that the subframe connects to broke right off, they are sending him a new frame no questions asked

Isn't air filter cleaning/changes after every moto/ride fairly normal?

No not yet, he has a race this weekend and he got approval to weld it back together because he is a licensed welder by Yamaha.
He'll switch frames next week

I have about 5 hours on mine. I definitely agree on the whole filter thing. I don't do much riding in sand but I stay up on my filter after every ride and change it if need be. I have had a few issues with the starter as well. After running for a while it was hard to start. I will be keeping a closer eye on things after your post. If there is indeed issues, I seriously doubt that Yamaha will step up due to the limited warranty
