I've "raced" some halftime shows at monster truck events and they've used soda. It's scetchy to say the least. It has grip on perfect conditions but the problem we had is if someone went down in a turn and spilled a little fuel. The gas would make the soda like ice. Another huge problem for bikes is changes in humidity in the building. It would draw moisture from the concrete and again turn it to ice. My guess is that someone before her dribbled a little fuel on the approach.

Doesn't look like a freak accident to me. It looks like a sketchy set-up that led to a sketchy (and bone breaking) landing.

seems like she rides off the grip about halfway up. Why the thin strip of soda? I guess we can why on alot of things, but I guess some of these riders will do anything for some cash.

Seemed more like a lack of commitment to me. She didn't hit the gas all that hard, I really can't see any wheel spin. Insurance has to hear it a certain way in order to pay out I think. I dont think it's right to blame the venue or the staff for this one, I see a mental error.
I was thinking the same thing. Watching the approach it didn't seem like she had near enough speed for the distance.

Nah, the torque these bikes are rocking they can pretty much roll up and blip the throttle to make that gap.

I'd take her word on what happened.

It’s apparent that most of you have never ridden on polished concrete with Coke syrup. It certainly sounds crazy at first, but does work very, very well for making traction when done properly. And as mentioned, has been successfully used for indoor shorttrack races for decades.
It's not and never will be as good as astro turf or carpet

If you have never hit an FMX ramp it might appear that way but it isn't. You drive pretty hard up the face so the last few feet of flat are critical. I have one set up right next to a dirt jump and it's a completely different style of run up. She had plenty of initial speed, imo.......................

This was a Metal Melisha event?

Who the hell sets this up? Anyone and everyone knows concrete is the word surface for a dirt bike...then you go and put a ramp after it? Promoters or whoever put this on failed her.

This wasn't their first run at the ramp, if you read correctly they had been hitting it throughout the day. I highly doubt she jumped it all day then just suddenly failed to commit.

When I first read it I thought she was talking about this
I was thinking "That will absolutely not give you any traction..... I guess I wasn't wrong....

Looks like the Progressive Motorcycle Expo, the fmx event is put on by Jimmy Fitzpatrick

While it looks super sketchy, they had a very similar set-up in Dallas last year, and there were no issues

That's crazy. Good thing they realized she had compartment syndrome before it was too late. They end up amputating if you don't catch it soon enough. Kudos to the medical staff for thinking on their toes.

Amazing they use that for this type of event. For other racing it would cause what, some wheel spin, lost time maybe a spin out if it gets slick, jumping like that could be in a wheelchair if it gets slick.
If the venue doesn't have dirt would it really be that difficult to bring even just 30ft of matting or turf? Secure it to the take off ramp

"Freestyle Motocross" - the most IDIOTIC F'ing thing to ever come out of the real sport of Motocross and Dirt Bike riding.
One idiot after another hurting themselves, and all the spectators watching this crap think that it has something to do with real "Motocross". SMDH

She clearly did not hit the throttle that hard, I've been riding my whole life and I can hear her bike the entire way up to the ramp. Usually they creep up and then power up the face, she was just cruising at about half throttle all the way up and off the ramp.

Plus, the whole "freak accident" thing is interesting in itself. The term implies that the odds were in favor of the insured party until something went totally awry, something that no one could plan for or foresee. Its some sort of stipulation and I believe it's almost if not totally identical to KR94's case which was claimed as a "freak accident" as well. If the piston seized on Vicki or something else happened to her or her bike up while taking off then I would call it a "freak accident," until then I just see a miscalculation.

Regardless of semantics, that stuff is gnarly and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Damn, hope she has a fast recovery

Surprised they even hold events like this in the US since they seem to be very saftey concerned and afraid of being sued..

It is super sketchy and super retarded. The guy running this could go to any mining outfit or stone quarry and score a 50ft used piece of cleated rubber conveyor belt they have laying around for probably next to nothing and would 100% eliminate any "what if" traction issues for every single non-dirt event from now till eternity. There's just not one single sign of intelligence in that whole video. Ramp to ramp on polished concrete sprayed with soda, a girl crashing her brains out because that "shortcut" failed and two morons making sure their bikes are nicely and neatly on their stands before seeing if she is even breathing. We rode sketchy shit like this 15 years ago and a lot of guys got seriously hurt and I believe a rider lost his life coming up short on a metal landing with no air bag. I can't believe it is 2018 and this dumb shit it still going on with that sport. Unbelievable.

Best wishes to VG on her recovery.
Yes it was at the IX center Saturday. They were running shows every couple hours. Her and the others were hitting everything clean all day.

The whole place got really quiet when it happened. Hoping for a speedy recovery

Thinking the same. I don't mean to be disrespectful to her. She's clearly in banged up bad. But look like she could of stayed on the bike fairly easily & although prob would have still had some issues maybe the sussy would have helped absorb most the impact.

I remember badly misjudging the big table top at Matterly Basin GP track (with fresh transitions). Grabbed waay to much of 3rd on a 450 & felt like I was in the air for n eternity. Watched the downslope go underneath me & landed just before the bowl turn, I didn't turn in time & then aired it off the bowl turn into the infield lol. Anyway went on to race all moto's suffering with whip lash but nothing more. Was pretty luckily that day, If I had of bailed like this I may not of walked again.
