Mike Brown getting heat over LL?

8/7/2017 1:53pm
When did racing become a tool for patting one's self on the back rather than a contest to prove who is the fastest?

I need to stay more informed. I always seem to miss when these paradigm shifts happen.

Having a few former pros in the class makes it more interesting for everyone. I just don't see why Brown would want to race against these guys when he is so much better than them. Seems he could have more fun gettting some points at a national racing against real racers than completely smoking a whole field of amateurs (and clearly hurting the feelings of some
Perhaps Husky suggested that Brown race at LL as part of his agreement with them.........

Who knew how he might do against Ramsey,Budman and others ???

I know for sure that Brown didn't show up to just ride around. He doesn't have that gene in him.

Is there anyone on here who actually raced in either of those classes this year? I was in staging for a few of those motos and I didn't hear any grumbling from anyone, but I didn't talk to everyone.

I also wonder if Mike Brown expected the results he got? He may have expected the other fast guys to be challenging him. I doubt a former pro champion really got much out of dominating an amateur event, but once he unloaded, he had to run right? I figure he probably would have caught grief if he ran one moto in each class and loaded up. How does he explain that "Oh, I was so much faster than the other guys that it wasn't worth racing". He would never live that down.

Is there any other sport that allows current and/or former professionals to compete at amateur events? Can Michael Jordan or Kobe join a U.S. Amateur Basketball team? Maybe Tom Watson could tee up at select amateur golf events? John McEnroe compete for a US Amateur Tennis championship?

I also don't agree that anyone over the age of 25 goes to Loretta's with the hope of being signed by Pro Circuit or Geico by the end of the week. I'm sure even the most sheltered, naïve 25 year old has probably come to the realization that they aren't going to go pro and make it to the "big time."

I also don't believe it's fair to expect a fast (on a local/regional level) 30- or 40-something year old weekend warrior, working 9-to-5 to support his family to "get over it" and "get faster" so he can compete against a decorated champion (Mike Brown in this example) who eats, sleeps and trains to make his living competing on a factory-supported dirt bike.

You can say it's OK because you are a fan of the rider but it's still just another form of sandbagging and one of the main reasons why my family and I don't race anymore.

I hope he goes back next year and waxes everyone's ass again. Hopefully some of you whiny ass bitches will man up and get on the line with him. Good lord what a bunch of fucking snowflakes.

Brown is an inspiration and I for one am glad to see him out there still doing it at this level at his age. More props to him.

As long as your birth certificate is legit there's no such thing as sandbagging the 40+ class!

Anyone 25 years old crying about about a 45 year old working them probably needs a safe space.

They do have their own class. If you have national points at all you can only race in a few classes and they can not be sportsmen classes.. 25+ or 40+ If you ever had points those are the only classes you can race. If you're an old guy..

DC needs to change the name of the pro sport class to Pro Am. Put in a little money in that class and then make all vet classes money classes. Problem solved.

Forgive me if this was mentioned in the past 7 pages already, but wasn't there a Vet 30+ B/C class at Loretta's strictly for "non-pro" Vet guys?

I love it when a 40 year old C rider is complaining about Mike Brown racing LLs. I have to ask when did a B or C rider in any class start thinking they are a National Champion. The top riders are in the A class. They are the only top riders every one else needs to face facts if you are older than 25 and are still not a A class rider you are the ones who need to sale your bikes and take up another hobby.

Hell no make Mr. Brown sell his. Time to make LLs a PRO AM race.....

I'm tired you of lecturing everyone all the time. You act like a condescending ass more often than not. Have you ever raced at LLs? I have. I raced against Doug Dubach who was a Factory Yamaha rider and against Trampas Parker, who was a world fucking champion.

I've never been a pro, I will never be a pro, and I sure as HELL was never a factory pro, AMA national champion, or FIM world champion. I will NEVER possess the skills they did and DO today. They get bike and gear support like I will NEVER have when they decide to race at the national AMATEUR championships.

This whole situation has been obscene and a travesty for a long time, and there is no convincing those who are big enough assholes to say, "sit down, shut up, and take your lumps like a man." I didn't race at LL's to race against the former best pros in the world, I went to race an AMATEUR championship against...oh I don't know...AMATEURS.

There should clearly be a class for former AMA/FIM pros. There isn't, and they make some rule that says that after 5 years the fastest pros in the world get to race against people who have never been pros.

It's bullshit of the highest order if anyone is trying to be fair. If you aren't worried about fairness, than it's not an issue.
I'm going to refrain from completely going off on you at this time , as I just worked my ass off in the heat all day , and I quite frankly don't have the energy.

To be continued here in a bit......

Thank you for making my point.

For years the one rule that governed the Olympic games was that only amateur athletes were allowed to compete. Professional athletes were not permitted until popularity of the games took off when the games were televised. The IOC realized that the Olympics could make lots of money so to bring in more viewers the IOC decided to allow the most famous athletes in the world to compete and many of them were professionals.

The pros are there for a reason; People will watch the athletes they know which means increased viewership and more $$ for the IOC (sound familiar MX Sports?).

No need man I was out of line going off on you like that. You were just expressing your opinion and I can't say you were wrong about it. I had a patient die on a flight today shortly before I wrote that so my apologies.

I like the color you bring here with your stuff. Hope all is well with you.

I'm Luke VonLinger and I came in 2nd place in the 25+ class behind Mike Brown at LL.. I'm pumped to have gotten to race him even though if it wasnt for him i would have won. the guy is 45 years old its not his fault he can still rip on a dirtbike. he is the most humble dude you'll ever meet and a national champ. to me the guy can do anything on a dirtbike and hes a legend in my book. 2nd to him is the same as winning in my book.

Huge congrats for the ride at the ranch this week! You where rolling when I there watching this week. I Loved watching you that weekend at sandmountain too. You can rip for sure!
Some of us here are just wanting a class we can race in without racing ex pro riders. i would love to see a vet am and vet pro at Loretta's. I think it would be a win win for all of us. People like yourself that where once pros wanna race, have fun and can still race at LL. Then people like myself that would like to race the best vet ams across the county. I Hope this doesn't come across wrong, because I have huge respect for you and your accomplishments!

So the dude that came second was also an ex pro? Funny that, why isn't everyone attacking him also? Is it because it's basically the ex pro class so most of them were and still are bloody fast in there own right?

You wanna race the "slow" vets then wait till you 30+. You're probably still gonna get your ass kicked then, but atleast it'll be by someone nobodies ever heard of and you can go home feeling like it was fair and square.

I think it's awesome that old fast guys like Brownie and Luke Vonlinger still enjoy dirt bikes enough to get out there and race, let them do it in peace. Otherwise they'll just give up and retire properly and why should that be their fate just because once they were crazy fast?

I wonder if Brownie finds this whole situation more flattering or annoying or just funny.

In all honesty Mike Brown is top 3 fastest 125 riders I've ever seen on a 125 at shoug. And I've been going since 97. That was back in 2001 though....
8/7/2017 10:23pm
In Brown's defense, I really doubt he expected to win so easily and I don't think we'll see him racing the Vet classes next year. In hindsight, it was all pointless and I think he's probably a little embarrassed.

Congrats on the 2nd place finish. I am not sure why any former pro would be upset about getting beat by another former pro though. I have no issue with Pros racing +25 and 40, but why are EX-Pros allowed in the +30 sportsman class? You have a few guys in the Top 5 who raced and qualified for Nationals. Even if they didn't "earn a professional point" the were still fast enough to have their PRO card and Qualify for a National. That loophole is a joke. Might as well open it to all riders at that point.

Embarassed? Yeah, you might be right. I don't think Brownie went into this just because he knew he would smoke everybody else.

I get both sides of the issue, to a degree. But, I bet we see Brown racing the vet class instead of the mainstream classes from now on...if he races at LL again.
