I'm all to familiar with Nickys situation. My teenage son was involved in a car accident, he suffered a traumatic brain injury. For 7 straight days, his Doctors would tell us, just sit with him and talk to him because, he's just not gonna survive the next 24hours. Long story short,he was in a Coma for 97 days. That was 11 years ago. As I type this,he just got back from a bike ride in the neighborhood and,he's out to a Movie with his buddy's. NEVER,EVER give up on head injuries! If we would have listened to his Docs, the ventilator would've been turned off and,he wouldn't be here today.
Wow. Powerful story. I hope your son continues to live a normal life and wish him the best.

Terrible to discover this news, always been a fan of Nicky's for a good few years.... Hoping ... for good news or at least better.

... Delivered some parts to another petrol head today(car racing guy) and asked him if he had heard about Nicky- he had and said he was lucky enough to have met him at a Moto GP race and most riders were behaving like 'rockstars' or something and very important somewhat and didn't seem to have time to even acknowledge or chat.... He said Nicky walked up to him and buddy in person(usually you would think the fans go up to the riders, not the other way round!) and Nicky chatted for a longtime even and said he was totally down to earth and lovely friendly person, when many(most according to him) of the others didn't care to even acknowledge the fans and those attending. Yea- he said he was such a friendly person and it made a very positive impression on him to see such a famous rider actually go up to fans/ others and strike up a genuine conversation.

Hoping Nicky can beat this somehow.

Praying for Nicky.

I refuse to ride on the road for these reasons specifically.
Just curious by why do most road cyclists seem to think those tiny helmets are sufficient enough to protect your head from pavement, guard rails, cars, concrete. It's just not smart to expose your temple, eyes, check and jaw to immovable objects that cars operate on.

Hang in there Nicky you got this!!

My son had his mandatory helmet on in 4th grade riding to school and back. One day home washed out the front end on gravel , now he awaits his 2 front teeth to be replaced with permanents once he stops growing . Afterwards a full face helmet for him.

if a car hits you full speed, no helmet is going to help unfortunately.

That's so amazing. I'm sure the organ donation team was hitting you up pretty quick too. Awesome story!

What a lame ass write up. Of course it's not looking very good, he's got some serious shit going on. I gotta stay off the internet, I'm just getting more bitter with the stupid shit being posted on these websites. Hang in there Nicky, there are a lot of people pulling for you.

I should add that my mother was in a really bad accident on Christmas Eve two years ago and I was told she'd never be normal again and she would need full time care. She was in a Coma for 51 days, before she decided to wake up. Within 3 days we were having conversations and within 6 months she was on her way to being normal. She was 68 years old.... If a 68 year old can pull through, I have high hopes for Nicky.

Wow,crazy! I didn't know who they were until the day we took my son home. I really thought they worked for the hospital in some kind of support capacity. They never said they were with Donate life.

Hoping and praying for the best, but heads are the worst. There's no rhyme or reason to how some will do with recovery. You never know and you always want to hang on for the best but run the risk of the down side of the head injury.

Totally agree with you. They did NOT post anything new. They inferred, which anyone can do. About as bad as a piece of journalism as I've ever read recently.

I'm laying off the road bike now, had a few close calls recently with cars been way too close, not worth the risk however much I love it!

Yeh that's true! I don't mind taking my chances in life, but when it's out of your hands it's a different ball game. I'll probably do the same and just hit some of the more rural roads!

Thoughts are with you Nicky

With things like this I just stick to the official pages, WSBK, MotoGP and the Ten Kate team in this case.

Thoughts are with the 69.

This looks like Internet fake news to me. They reference a statement made by the family, but don't print the statement.
Hope you are right

Who ever wrote that article is an asshole, clearly just looking for traffic to their website.

It's very sad these days that we don't know if are reading fake news or factual news about someone's death...writing a false article about someone's death to get traffic to your website should be a crime.

I don't see any reputable media outlets confirming he passed, so I would bet the article above was indeed fake news.

I've been hearing that he's still in critical but stable condition with no changes, he needs to have his fractured pelvis and femur operated on but they are still waiting because of the brain injury.

The newest thing I can find is just footage of the crash?

If the family is confirming his death is fake news then I will continue to pray he makes a full recovery. Thankful that there is still hope.
