Malcolm is a 250SX Champion, so I understand why you guys are wondering about this combo. After all, J-Mart hasn't ever set the world on fire with his Supercross skills, and hasn't done too well yet this year.

-However-

Daytona is not a Supercross. It's called "Supercross," but let's face it, this is a 20+1 national. Martin is a 2x National Motocross Champion (full "national" mind you, not "regional" like Malcolm's title.) Also, if we're being honest with one another here, which of those guys is in better shape?

I think the answer is self-evident. Mookie should congratulate himself all night if he even gets a whiff of J-Mart's exhaust.

No doubt about it. Mookie can't last half of a race on a Toronto sx track without fading to the back of the pack. Who is crazy enough to believe he can last a full race at the more physically demanding Daytona track? As long as Martin doesn't crash he's got Mookie covered.

Martin- 11th
Mookie- 18th

I say yes, but only because to me it seems like this years track is less supercrossy than recent years, which I think will play into JMart's hands. I also don't expect Mookie to fade like he did in Toronto, I think he'll be more comfortable at Daytona.

I'd say so based on fitness and J mart's love of the outdoors. Mostly fitness though. Mook's got a bit to go in that department. Talent and skill wise I'm not sure - Mook's fast.

Does it even matter? JMart riding this race is just an exhibition. He hasnt shown the ability to have a clean SX event over the last 2 years. Mookie has not lit the world on fire in the mains this year.

If this is the best show of the night at Daytona....we are in trouble!

I would bet $1 on Mookie just because he has finished more races.
JMart couldnt win on a 250, a bike that he is very well suited for, why would he be able to hop on a 450 and do any better on a tight stupid track like Daytona?

I would bet another $1 JMart gets a last place start and then makes a mistake.
The couple times he won over Malcolm last year seemed pretty clean.

I think yes. More likely than not, Mookie will have more speed and can manhandle that 450. But, his fitness is not where it needs to be. Too many times we've seen Mookie get a good start, run a top 5 pace, and fade back to 10-15. It's not a huge secret.
Anybody watching the heat races can come to this conclusion, because more often than not Mookie qualifies directly out of the heat races. He has the speed for them and with just a 5 min race his fitness doesn't come into play. J-Mart is in good shape and I think unless he crashes he will beat Mookie. I would love to see what Mookie could do if his fitness is where it needs to be to ride a 20min + 1 lap supercross race. He has so much skill and talent on a 450. So, as things stand right now J-Mart will beat him...in my opinion.
spot on!

I think Malcolm will be a little faster for about the first 1/3rd of the race....then fade. I've never seen Jmart fade , and on a track like Daytona , fitness will play a role a lot more than any other SX race. I Think Jmart will come out on top at this round.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think he won't fade like he has in every race this year? And what makes you think Mookie will be more comfortable at a track like Daytona? I can't even remember the last time Mookie raced outdoors.

J Mart is going to completely smoke Mookie at Daytona. One of them is in shape, and the other is not. That is a silly question.

I just think he'll be more comfortable there because he'll be in his home state and he's probably quite comfortable on the dirt in Florida. I think since it's not a true supercross track he'll feel like it's a clean slate. He's also a pretty smooth rider and very talented so I think that will help him when it gets rough. Just my opinion.

Umm thats highly un likely. I do think that he will beat Malcolm just on stamina. Something is up with Malcom. I figured he would be running in the top 7-10.

I still can't get my head around Mookie's fitness. The bloke literally took the outdoor season off to be ready for supercross. A 22 minute race. And missed the start of the series. And is also a professional, who literally has nothing to do but ride a motocross bike. Literally baffles me and makes me giggle at the same time. There is honestly no excuse. Dungey gets injured, has all that time off, comes back just as fit

Didn't Eli bonk at freestone on a 250f a few years ago? I know he wasn't the same for a couple years after that.

I think the stewarts like to race on pure talent, which they have plenty of, but lack of fitness and age will take its toll
