Very little participation in the GP's from Americans recently so I would not expect a MX des Nations to be held on U.S. soil. And if they ever do get one hold it at Budds, Unadilla, or any other good MX track. Glen Helen in Sept is a shithole and the track resembles a SX track on steroids

Not even slightly surprised. This is the right decision looking at the precedent of non-AMA events held there.

It would seem US fans don't much care for anything beyond their borders, something I feel permeates far beyond just MX. Slowly become more alienated from the rest of the world.
Let's look at f1.... Years ago America could care less, now it's all the rage thanks to a steady and smart marketing program.... It will take the same for mxgp... It takes years of solid marketing to raise awareness among U.S. consumers.... Its not that Americans don't care about mxgp races, it is more a case that many don't know it exists, and those that do have yet to learn enough about it to actively follow it... I eat sleep and sh!t mx, but mxgp still isn't important enough to me to spend the cash needed to travel and watch an mxgp in person... Btw... I typically make 3 f1 races a year....

Holy shit.

You guys leap to conclusions that USA won't race it if it isn't here next year.

Also, if not Glenn Helen; does anyone have any insight to where it really may be?

Thanks, why have it at that track again, doesn't make any sense... they need to have it at different tracks.

Oh well. I'll be watching, and team USA I'm sure
Will be there.

Budds creek did not even break even after what was one of the biggest MX events ever held in the USA

Some of you guys are clueless when you name all the other places that the mxon should be held.

They are all part of the npg. They have talked to Beasley and know exactly what the scope is.
Beasley dreamed of hosting that event and just wanted to have something special in us MX history. He did, and does, but none of the other tracks named are likely to feel the same.

I do hope the people who actually mange the USA MXoN team dont read the dumb posts here, why boycott an event just because we lost the hosting for it, get over it, send a strong team and win in 2017....that will say a lot more than crying about it

c'mon America where is your fighting patriotic spirit gone???
Agree.
It's sad that people believe their country should pull out because they can't host the event.
Lots of participating countries have never hosted the event.

I go to every national and MXGP at Glen Helen. However, this year I almost thought about not going because it didn't seem like any American riders wanted to be there and the championships were already wrapped up. I went anyway and had a great time. I absolutely would have gone to MXDN and I would have bought VIP tickets no matter what they were asking. It was like the super bowl to me. There is no comparison between MXDN and this last USGP.
I feel that the top US riders just don't want to do the MXDN anymore. In the past when they seemed pressured to go it really showed in their riding. I salute the guys that went this year though.
Considering Glen Helen was pulled entirely over promoter profit how can you possibly ask the riders to go for free and claim patriotism and love for the sport? I wouldn't say the US should boycott but I certainly wouldn't pressure anyone to go and I think if they skipped it Youthstream would see a financial hit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Racers chimed in about not wanting to ride there. It's a lot of effort to race a track that is not fun.

Matti pretty much sums it up for me .

jeezus .... free tickets and 40 mins away , I would have gone to watch Herlings and Tomac run two practice sessions on the track by themselves . I cant really blame Glen Helen for pulling the plug when I see posts like this . California = poser fans .

oh vital. Stay classy. That post was posted elsewhere with 100% positive response and here it's 100% negative with being called an idiot, a poser fan, and seems a few who can't read.

My life is based around motocross and the industry and I'm not a poser fan by any means. It was pushing 95, had half a gate in MX and 2 championships were wrapped up, there wasnt really any reason to go. I spent money and drove 30 min on Friday and raced go carts block passing the likes of Seewer, Tiga, anstie for fun but that had more appeal than the racing and the terrible turnout it was going to be. No friends, not as much competition, and terrible atmospher. Let's just say I would PAY to go to the MXON no matter what the temperature, as I have for the Nationals every year, but this race had less appeal as shown by the attendance. Mid season GP with full attendance? Id be there no doubt. But maybe I'm just a spoiled American Tongue

But call me an idiot or not a true fan I'm telling you the reason I didn't go and why it didn't appeal to many Californians and didn't pull from states away like the national or supercrosses even.
I guess I am another California poser fan. Some folks just cant or dont want to understand that Californians have 6 opportunities a year to...
I guess I am another California poser fan. Laughing Some folks just cant or dont want to understand that Californians have 6 opportunities a year to see professional MX/SX in this state alone... more if you are willing to travel to a neighboring state.

While the GP's are good racing with talented riders, its certainly no better than our national series. When there is nothing on the line, few if any or our guys that we are big fans of racing it, and so many other sports competing for our money..... its easy to understand with a little rational thought why so few show up or show interest in the GP race.

I skipped this years Hangtown event to ride with 500 folks in the dirt from the central valley to the coast and back over two days. I knew there would be plenty of other opportunities this year in my state to see my favorite guys race. No biggie.....

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand that the MXoN is different, and limited opportunity. I was planning on driving the 10 hrs south for a weekend to attend the MXoN next year. Bummed that it wont happen now. But to equate GP attendance with MXoN attendance is a little silly.

Would it be or ever be as well attended as an event in Europe? Probably not. But you have so many more country's fan pools so much closer for travel there. No one country "deserves" a race, but if Youthstream wants to keep interest in the event..... you might want to throw one of the single biggest MX markets a bone occasionally.
Well said. I have been a poser too (only attended one GH GP), Californians have so many options, too many. Going to 4-5 SX races a year, etc, I think the MXoN should NOT be in SoCal. I lived 2 hours from GH and would prefer to see the MXoN in REEEEEED BUUUUUUD.

Very true fans of the sport, that only get one race a year, just like Washougal, Budds Creek, etc. These non SoCal events is where I've felt like the best and truest fans of the sport reside.

I get it.
Glen Helen is one of the worlds great racetracks, but for paying spectators, it is dust and heat and mud and no surrounding restaurants or bars or anything for that matter.

It's a racer's facility to be sure, but not so much a spectator paradise. If Dr Feldkamp planted some trees and grass then had some shade sails put up then maybe it would help.

Here is how I think it went. I know there were some people from GH attending MXDN in Italy. They tried to negotiate, but Luongo is too greedy, so they said fuck it. Imagine all that money that was put in to organizing GPs there. If it`s anything like Kegums, then you have to buy multiple GP`s and then you can buy MXDN.
I bet GH people are not happy. But all that Luongo cares about is his own pockets.
Ding ding ding. Glenn Helen was promised an MXdN if they signed for X amount of GP's. Since the income from this year's GP was sub-par they steered away from the MXdN deal. It's not about not getting enough spectators for the MXdN, it's about not getting enough spectators for all the GP's GH has to organize to get the right to host a freaking MXdN.

It's a real shame for people from NZ and Australia who were looking forward to attending, at the moment airfares are the lowest they have been for 30 or so years to fly into Los Angeles.
I am lucky that we get across in January each year to attend a couple of SX's and do abit of riding.
I was planning for my son and I to come across for Glen Helen. ( we were in California for the non de nations in 2002, still have tickets somewhere)
As well as racing I try to attend as many races as I can, get across to Australia once or twice a year to watch the Oz nationals as we have a friend who has been racing in the MX2 class the last couple of years, he was also in this years NZ nations team.
Might just have to fly over for next years USGP if it still goes ahaed.

Well, as a shame it is, I can't blame them. In 2012 at Lommel the profit of only the first 10,000 sold tickets were promised to the organisation, maybe it was even less, can't remember correctly. Everything else (tickets, merchandising, food, drinks, sponsoring etc.) went mostly right into Luongo's pocket.

You have to be crazy nowadays to organise such an event under said circumstances, and preferably get some support from the government or you're done for.

YS and Luongo are scum. The GP guys should have boycotted him years ago. They're fucked now.

Hopefully the American guys know their moto history when SX asks for 5 more races.
They tried in 2004. Everts and Pichon were the guys who convinced the others to strike right before the start of the first moto in the South African GP. Instead television showed us a lady who sung the national anthem. Everts and Pichon got sanctioned afterwards.

If you have never been to a GP in Europe or the MXON like I just was it is a whole different feeling. Countries support their riders and their fans. Yes it was a small venue. Not enough porta potties or food vendors but there was patriotisum up the ASS. You know who drew the biggest crowd in the pits, the US riders or anyone American. They all spoke of coming next year because it's America and they want to see there riders against the US Team. But unless we do some letter writing or emails to Glen Helen saying you will be their and Europe doing the same to YouthStream maybe we can get it back. Let's start a fund raiser and let the people pay for it here. We still have time. I had a great trip and would go again in a heartbeat.

As Brit that might have it on my doorstep again im.....gutted. I attend the mxgp here most years but the Mxdn has a whole different feel and it would have been awesome to make the trip over to GH. I think it would have been one hell of an event with a LOT of international supporters

Sitting home and not going and paying a few bucks on the false idea that youthstream are getting your money , is just dumb... they got their money already, going to the race gives Bud a chance to save his shirt, and you wouldnt even go for free....

The top and bottom of this is that MX in the US is done... all the guys that come out there to holiday and expect some kind of wonderland are disappointed.. its great to say you did it, but the reality is that the heyday of the 80's and 90's is long gone, the riders are no better than ours and the only thing keeping the whole thing going is Monster Money.

I hate YS with a passion, but i go to as many races as i can to support the riders , so that we continue to have a proper GP series , and my kids can enjoy what i have for the last 30 years.

Netflix... you need to hand in your man card .

You pretty well nailed it. Local MX in America is virtually dead, canceling the MXoN speaks for itself. Its only a matter of time until we just stop participating.

Big amatuer MX is a shell of what it used to be with basically 2 nationals and a few regional type races.

Rumor of expanding supercross and its hard NOT to see where MX is going in the US. The only varible is time before American racing is SX that resembles F1 as elitist.

You say we should go spend a few bucks so Bud can save his shirt?

Dude when you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas.

Bud was hard headed and backed out on MX Sports. I won't say he didn't have valid reasons of his own (although I don't know what they are) but it's clear MX Sports has done a wonderful job turning the nationals around. Bud didn't wanna play ball.

Ok so he went looking and made a deal with the devil and he failed miserably.

So he make another bad deal to bring the MXdN to Glen Helen. Difference is he caught his mistake and backed out before he lost his "shirt". But he made those deals on his own. So no, I don't need to bail him out.

He should tell Luongo you wanna have a race here this is "MY" terms. Not the other way around. Pretty sure Bud needs another GP like he needs a hole in his head.

Oh and what killed local MX. 4 strokes and cost. The Japs missed their price point by just that much and then the economy took a dump. Sorry guys.

Don't sweat it though. Not starting the old 2 stroke 4 stroke argument. As soon as scale ramps up and cost come down electric bikes will take them both out shortly.

Yep, that's what I was referring too.

Unfortunately, that is trying only, and not what is/was needed. As Beaurano says, he's a plague on the sport.

"Bearurano", huh.......... It might be a clever bit of re-working of my name, though it might be just a mis-type, what with your big, Gorilla Sized Hands. Well, I've got a 5lb, custom made (Bear Built) 6061T6 Heat Treated Walking Stick, with Stainless Steel inserts, that I'll knee cap you with, Big Fella - that is, if I can reach that high............

I'll just put this here, that I just put on another thread:

"I think the only way to have MXDNs in the US, with any regularity, is for Luongo / Youthstream to assume the risk themselves. That is, he / they rent / hire a track, and then He / They spend the money in running it. Then THEY can take all of the risk, and, for once, deserve all of the profits coming from the event, if it's a success.

But no, it won't ever happen - He / They have a good earner on their hands, whilst leaving a trail of destruction behind Him / Them.

I wouldn't piss on Luongo / Youthstream if they were on fire."

PS : What happened with the stolen bike? Getting another?

This is a result of the last few years lack of success IMO... 5 years without a win and all of a sudden its too much trouble.

If the US guys dont come, its thier loss, the event is huge with or without them, if matterley is anything like the last one there , it will be off the scale.

Don't think so. The same conversations were had before Thunder Valley in 2010 because everyone knew Budds was a bust.

And the event is definitely not the same without the US. It's effectively a team GP plus some gypos who can't ride for squids.

Like Dean Ferris? Tongue

The reason Matterley was so huge in 2006 was because everyone wanted to see RC, Stewart and RV and more specifically RC ride in Europe for the last time.
