Want to make a lot as a mechanic stick with euro cars. They are not as dependable as the masses think.

Let's assume they take a 30 year mortgage....

Payment will be around $1400 a month. I'm sure taxes on that house are close to $1000 a month for California...

So we're at $2400 a month...not including utilities or any other bills.

$75,000 will bring you around $50,000 take home. So that is around $4100 a month in income. $1700 for everything else doesn't seem too doable.

Wishful thinking. Do you actually own a house?

I make more than your given scenario, and live in a house worth less than $100K. All those "everything else" costs you conveniently left add up more significantly than you elude to. Some months we are money ahead, some months were are tight. We live fairly frugally. Granted, I invest alot into my 401k and savings. I couldn't even fathom mortgaging a $300k house on that salary.

The scenario you describe would for sure leave a guy house poor.
Yes I do own. I'm not saying you buy the house the first year you make $75k. Let's make this more realistic. A $250k house...

You save your down payment over 5 years($50k). So you don't touch $10k per year and put it in savings.
Get a mortgage for $200k at 4% interest and say property tax is $4k a year. Your mortgage is $1,400. You then can rent a room to a friend for $500 which now makes your cost to own a home $900 per month. Very doable on $75k(after you save your down payment..)

Here's a house near Perris raceway that would fit that model...

I won't speak to the rest-- but real estate taxes in CA are by far among the lowest in the nation. By law, they cannot exceed 1% per year, and cannot be readjusted in excess of a maximum of 2% annually, so in the case of a $300,000 house (I also won't speak to what that buys in CA), less than $250 month -- but probably much less, unless you bought it yesterday.

$1000 a month in taxes on a $300K house? Granted I paid 1/2 that for my house in Indianapolis (2000 sq ft/3 car garage built in 2005), but the property taxes are $1230 per year.

Property tax in California is mellow for the most part. Just depends what county you live.

In Illinois, 1000 a month for 300k house is about right. My house is valued at 140 and I pay about 425 month. My house payment is 575. However, illinois just became highest taxed state in the nation

That's crazy! Oregon isn't even that much and there's no sales tax in the state.

My parents home in upstate NY is about $400k with 2 aches and tax is around $7-$9k a year which I think is crazy.

Also, before Obama was president I paid $950 per year for same house. 2 years into presidency it went up to 3500 per year. 2 years later, right after re-election it went to 5100. Property value stayed the same over the eight years. 5 more years and I'm gone

Good AM rider locally, trains down south, top 5 Loretta, has won a moto or two, turns pro the year after next. His mechanic makes $550 per week and he stays with him in his motor home. All travel and entries fees are paid for also.

It is low regardless of county. The absolute highest allowed by any county is 1% assessed value anually, and it is generally a fraction of that, due to really low caps on reassessments.

Median house price in Sydney is over a million dollars (AUD) approx 755,000 US dollars.

average income of Australians is $66,000 AUD or just under $50k US dollars

You sure you want to complain lol.

We have a whole generation priced out of the housing market here, Luckily I got my shit together and bought something, many of my friends not so lucky.

Someone had to bail out the under funded public pensions. Wow, 5100 is major inflation.

We bought our house in 1989 for 130K and only financed for 12 years paid it off in 10 years and now its valued at about 300K our payment was about 600 a month. I was talking to younger guys at work who are paying $1200 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. They say its impossible with student loans and a car payment and the cost of living to save enough for a down payment on a house so they have to rent.

How will the new overtime rules affect mechanics that aren't a lot of money?

Or are they independent contractors too?

Pretty sure salaries are how they are paid so overtime isn't a thing for them.

Also, California is insanely expensive to live in. Here in NC you can get 20 acres and a 3000 sq foot house for like 250k... Taxes are way low too. Im only paying $759 a year on house and land valued at 179k. Just a little over 7 acres on the river.

I don't know but in europe houses are a lot more expensive and wages aren"t as high also.
I'm wondering what makes living in the states so expensive?
Cars, houses , supermarkets,clothing,... Is cheaper in the states.

Let's say i'm making 75K a year in europe, i wouldn't have any issues to buy a 300K home...

Btw: How much does a mechanic make, let's say in a plant?
