I'm not parent of the year but I am sure my 18 year old son would not have handled it that way. If I had to guess we had the coming to Jesus talk about disrespectful behavior when he was around 7 or 8. If your kid is acting that way when they're 17, that's piss poor responsible parenting there. I'm my sons dad, not his best friend. This is not an 8 year old........I think most of us know how this narcissistic, self-centered human being is going to turn out into adulthood, which by the way is next year. The world has wayyyyyyyyy to many of these people in it at this time.

I don't comprehend the angle entirely, but couldn't you just ride over his bike?

P.S. What is the definition of "dropping a chain"? Did it snap or derail?

I personally know this kid, close family friend, and he's already seen the pic and this thread, I showed it to him. He's been nothing but very apologetic and even manned up and admitted his wrongdoing, realized his mistakes, and has been very humbled. He's made some posts on Facebook apologizing to the people who help him out, his family, friends, and competitors.
Sounds like lesson learned. Good enough for me.

You must know a lot more about this kid than I do based on that one photo.

I read a lot of your posts, and we may agree on more that you might imagine. My kids would never have done that and if they did, my response might be similar to your opinion. But public humiliation by a stranger is not a good teaching tool.

Someone posted he is 17, he humiliated himself, at one of the biggest moto events there is. No telling how many devices he is on from that moment. If you don't want to end up on youboob dont be a boob.

I've seen that same tantrum many times, always made me want to put a boot in their ass.

At mudfy creek one day in 88ish a kid is pissed about his finish and comes flying by the pits hitting my buddy's girlfriend and it skinned her all over.

I wonder how he treats his girlfriend assuming he has one.

I think the real danger is that if this kid isn't taught early enough about how wrong his actions are, he might just grow up and be one of those guys who loves to post on message boards about all the stupid/illegal stuff he does with his child around him.......
I see what you did there. I approve.

im ashamed to admit ive done something very similar =( i was a heavy kid, had a part in the shock/linkage break on my kx60 multiple times, the last time it happened was after flatlanding a tabletop one corner from the finish while i was leading, i just walked off, left the bike in the middle of the track, still upright, back guard resting on the back tire.. the flagger had to push my bike off the track... i remember being so pissed.. first and last time i threw my helmet at the ground too. dad was even more pissed at my handling of the situation.. learnt a lesson that day.. would have been 8 or 9 years old

This is actually one of my close family friends son. He was riding 250C, he's 17, and this was actually the SECOND chain he broke in as many days while racing there this wknd. I understand his frustration but this kind of reaction is just immature and he does honestly know better. He's honestly a good natured, respectful, and hard working kid. I'm sure his emotions just got the better of him and he's regretting it now for sure. But honestly snap 2 chains in 2 days!? How does that even happen? User error, bad maintenance, bad sprockets, defect? Idk. What I do know is in close to 25 years of racing I've only ever broke a chain 1 time while riding and it was a manufacturer defect so something is definitely amiss here. I feel bad for him for all the time and money he and his family spent all for nothing.
''It was the 2nd chain that broke''... ''he spent al his time for nothing''.... ''i feel bad for him''...

As someone who made enough stupid decisions when i was a kid i can understand that a 17 year old makes a mistake like this.

I'm just hoping that his family will kick his *** for this making sure he understands this is not acceptable. BS like "it was the 2nd chain that broke" or "he spent his time for nothing" won't help the kid. At all.

Bit like calling Peick "lame" and "spoilt" for kicking his bike off the stand that time he got knocked out of the LCQ at Daytona a few years ago, no? You don't know the story behind this kid, maybe he borrowed the bike and it was a pile of shit hence why he didn't want it back.
So, if you borrow someone's POS to race and it breaks, it's ok to just walk off and leave it on the track? As long as...
So, if you borrow someone's POS to race and it breaks, it's ok to just walk off and leave it on the track? As long as you're done with it and the owner doesn't want it back, just drop it and let someone else clean up your mess? If anyone is ok with this scenario, I'm embarrassed for you.

"You don't know the story behind this kid, maybe he borrowed the bike and it was a pile of shit hence why he didn't want it back."..... Your words sir. So, I ask it again. If your scenario was indeed the case, would you be ok with the behavior? Would those circumstances justify the total disrespect for the equipment? The total disregard for the safety of everyone else on the track? Just curious.

I'm sorry , but I gotta say something here.

"thanksguyb "......I'm not sure if you're this kids dad or what? maybe you were ( I said " were " ) posting to help defend your kid or whatever. I can understand that. But what gives GuyB the right to post this pic , is because he shot the pic and runs this site. Maybe a little embarrassment on your end? I'm sure your kid is a good kid , that just had a bad day.

BUT....what GuyB and others have posted about it " Not being cool , or safe since he left his damn bike in the middle of a whoop section "....seems to be 100% correct on what most people would think.

Maybe take a step back and realize your kid did something completely stupid? And NOT cool as far as that goes.

Jake races with the kid, some ridicule is warranted it's not his first time. Jake would at least wait until he got back to the pits and let me have it! LOL

Did he just start riding recently? By the age of 17 he surely has had to have had "that" talking to before at some point in his moto career. Just unacceptable at this point. Live, learn, move on. With our vintage racing, my kids have pushed quite a few bikes back to the pits.Laughing

Agree. Im pretty sure we all have a lowlight reel we'd rather not replay, and IMO the test of character revealed less in an emotional mistake than in the person's reaction when called on it.

I was about that age when I had a life-changing lesson, too. I played a ton of baseball throughout my childhood. Played what seemed like year round for years. I remember when I was 10 years old I had a terrible practice and threw my helmet down after being thrown out at first base. My dad absolutely flipped. It was the most embarrassing ass chewing I've ever gotten in my life. Let's just say that over the course of probably 13 years of baseball and probably thousands of games and practices I've thrown my helmet exactly one time. One time is all it took. I'm grown now with my own kids and still remember that day vividly.

Wow what the hell! Almost as bad as the Weston Pieck tantrum a few months back! I saw that fight on the Soul id app while I was traveling and was blown away that Weston blew up like that. This tantrum is just immature!

Some of you act as if you've never made any mistakes as a 17 year old kid.

Give the kid a break... Sometimes, it is difficult to be patient at 17.

Cool story Bro. Kinda like the bible. Did Jesus ever tell your kid not to judge another person based on 1 incident in their life ? They already said the kid felt horrible and posted a FB apology. Geez
