I don't care what their relationship was/is because it's none of my business. I do know that Christian has made me a huge fan of his, due to the way he presents himself. The sport needs more guys like him and I hope he's around for a long time.

When I talked to Christian after Anaheim 2, he said he wanted to bring his son up on the podium, like his dad had done with him back in the day.

I get the impression that they're not close, but it's not like it's a taboo subject.
I would hope it isn't a taboo subject. I was a fan of Mike Craig in the early 90s and of Christian Craig now. When he's so close to making history by being the first father/son to have both won regional supercross races, the topic is going to come up.

I think Christian was pretty much raised by his mom and Mike didn't have much influence over the years. He had other things going on in his life. Whatever the case....Christian was raised the right way and seems to be one awesome kid. I'll also bet he becomes one hell of a dad. So getting more wins than his dad Mike , isn't the only thing he'll be beating him at.

That's all I'm saying....

Well...I didn't know him anything like what you and a lot of other guys did , so I'm not sure. I've met Mike a few times and one of those times was an hour long beer drinking / bullshitting conversation. He seemed like a cool dude , but I got the impression he had a fucking screw loose. I know back in the day , a lot of those guys liked to party like a rock star and I know Mike did , and the women came along with it haha. I'm not saying that Mike was a bad guy at all , as I didn't know him enough to even make that judgement. I had just heard through the years from people that did know him , he just wasn't around much. And this is just an assumption , but Christian's mom seemed good with it that way. But maybe I heard wrong. It's not really top secret stuff here , as a lot of people kind of know the whole story. As for me , I only know parts of it.

I'd like to add that I met and rode with Mike Craig in the 90s. He was nothing but a great guy to me and I had a blast riding with him (more accurately, watching him cliff jump at Palm Ave. while I thought "Holy Shit!"). I also knew and rode with one of his mechanics quite a bit. Sex, drugs and rock and roll doesn't seem a stretch but he was definitely very friendly to me.

I think Christian seems like a great kid and it's hard not to cheer for him. What a great story he has going, and I hope he can snatch a win or two away from Webb.

So, Kevin Walker-related threads (historically) got flushed----but this one lives? I am clearly missing something here....

I think this thread's basis is why Christian doesn't bring up his dad very much. It's not a slam on Mike ( even though a little dirty laundry came out with it )....but the thread is more about Christian , then his dad. Mike wasn't around , either by his own will , or was kind of forced to stay away. BUT.....either way , look at how Christian turned out. I swear if I had a son.....that's the kind of personality I'd want him to have. I admire that kid.
Understand. But, I'm betting CC would prefer that this thread wasn't first page on Vital...
Big fan of the young man and respect him immensely.

Seen Mike with him at Glen Helen about 5 years ago. I have heard he does not have much to do with him.

It was the 90's. They all rocked the sex, drugs and rocknroll lifestyle. Emig lost his factory ride over it as a multi time champion. It was that common place. I bet Mike hopes Christian surpasses his accomplishments. What parent wouldn't? All Christian has to do is win a couple 450 Supercross main events.

False.
Mike was young then and had fun and might have been out there a bit, but this thread is getting too close to shit people really have no business in.

As I said, if you know, were there, or around then, or know the rumors or half truths or what you think you know from back in the day, keep it off the board.

CC didnt get any choices here and its clear he doesn't want it out there.

Give the fine young man that much respect.

I know that Mike is one of the hardest working trainers in SoCal right now...he is out somewhere with different groups of riders everyday...plus at least 3 nights a week at Perris! I hear nothing but good things about him!

I was around for a lot of years with the Craig's when Christian was younger. I was there for a lot of good times and unfortunately a lot of bad, none of which are really anyone's business here.

What would be a very cool for me to see is Christian holding a number 1 plate, with his in laws, a clean Mike, his mom, his brother Jeremy, wife and Jagger.

It appears that Christian is trying to do his own thing and not live in his dad's shadow and that's not a bad thing. If that is what he is doing.

Christian was bound for greatness at 2. Most talented toddler at anything he ever did. It came from his dad. Mike pushed him to do things that were mind blowing, even at that age. It is very cool to see him doing what he is doing now.

I lost touch with them years ago, don't know much about the situation now but hope nothing but the best for them all. I know his mom sacrificed and did a lot to go to races, I know Mike maybe wasn't in the best of places but Christian wouldn't be where he is today if it weren't for him in someways.

Careful. Few know nothing more than rumors or what they think they know so leave it be out of respect.
If you know more than that leave it off here.

Fyi all.....this guy would know more than most.

His mom was cutting Mikes hair when Andy was a young tyke..85-86 or so and later.

Andy, even Clowers was on the young end...of shit that went down in the 80s and early 90s.

You'd know the mid 90s and later for sure. Good to see you're doing well.

Im stoked to see CC doing what hes doing now after taking that time off. Hopefully he can get a win before the seasons end. I was around perris and those tracks during those mike craig days 06-08 time and he was def kind of out there, but didnt see christian around him too much. Heard certain things but not my place to say. Glad to see what hes doing now amd looking forward to seeing what he can do in the future. Such an effortless riding style, kind of like kdub

Yup!

Not sure who you are but you got it right.

I know a lot of people have Mike Craig stories, but I was fortunate to know the other side of Mike too. His family, his ex wife and him did a lot of good for me. Unfortunatley, we had a falling out and I haven't spoke to him for years.

But even through it all, the coolest thing would be to see Christian and them all holding that plate. They have all been through a lot. I know a lot of it was self inflicted but still...

Does this discussion really need to continue? What conceivable difference does it make. Christian seems like a great guy. Isn't that enough?

Maybe Christian was a fun baby at the time factory riders were rock stars. Having watched his dad and what a tool he came across as in the 90's. It's cool to see his son the exact opposite. Good luck Christian as a rider but a young dad that seems to have his head straight.

This thread was bait from the beginning. Christian has inherited talent from his dad, but is 20 times the man and father Mike Craig is/was. Grandpa is proud.

I don't think OP started this thread to slam or bait. I myself was wondering if they have a relationship now.

All i will say on this thread is that Christian is THE most stylish current rider. I love seeing him ride, and he will do really good on a 450 in SX.

Go CC ! A French fan !

Being a professional rider and a public figure, this kind of intrigue comes with the job. If we were involved in bigger sports journalists would have told this story in detail already. Personally, Im not interested in Mike Craig's past, I just remember him as a kid watching supercross races on VHS tapes in the UK winters, was it Honda of Troy he was on? A predominantly white Honda? I just remember him being the stylish bad ass that would occasionally beat MC.

Back to Christian, I feel like theres a few racers out there that could learn from Christian's hiatus.

Get out of the sport, do some living, grow and gain a new appreciation for your own skill and your position in the sport. Then come back as an independent free thinking man, rather than a boy following the only path you know. Feel like theres something healthy and cathartic about breaking your yearly cycle like that - no matter what you do in life. Heck, I guess he just had a big "gap year", haha.

As a bench racer, you have to wonder if the same kind of break could do a guy like Wilson some good.
