So many fine tracks in the US, and they want this... That just makes me sad.

I do not know how it will turn but so far I absolutely love the track.

Obviously Webb will be super fast but I also except to see Paulin and Febvre upfront, and I hope it is the kind of track where Ferrandis can give a good run to Herlings.

I do not know if the KTM / Husky US teams will come, but that would be cool, for exemple Osborne should be able to get a podium there !

The MXGP promotor wants to have a race where all the best of the USA and the rest of the world compete together. (That way he makes money and..... we fans get a great event to view/visit.)

But the American riders of the 70's and 80's who rode such events are now American riders of the 2000's and they don't want to race the event if they don't have to (because there is not enough financial motivation)

So, what to do?

step 1: the promotor must build the event into a commercial success
step 2: the sponsors of the US riders wake up and see the advertising potential in such an event
then
step 3: the sponsors of the US riders will "pay" the US riders to race the event by including such events into their contracts

I hope they have a good sand source there, and they make it a sand track - that's what made Assen work. That, plus the good spectator turn out.

Still, it could be a travesty of World Motocross Championship venues, well up there with Qatar and the last Thailand.

Whether or not US spectators go - well, there may well be more people interested in racing there than there actually is in the "Californian Hotbed of MX"?

I'm hearing rumors there might be a big amateur race tied into the GP as well.

I don't think the venue is a great mystery. I agree with most that I'd rather see the race contested on an established outdoor track, but think about lagistics and ease of access. Not to mention, everyone is trying to expand fan interest. The MX community will support events at out of the way places, but I believe everyone is trying to attract the casual fans. Charlotte motor speed way is located just off two interstate's. I-85 which runs N-S and I-40 that runs E-W. It is also a firly large media area which saves time and money to cover. The facility offers unlimited room to for everything.

I also believe that the MXGP organizers may want to branch out and offer different types of racing, which this will definitely do. They probably want some American dollars. It is probably difficult to design a true outdoor style track on a dead flat piece of land too. Also think about why Supercross is so popular in America. You can go to an event and see the entire track from most any seat in the house.

True MX fans are the minority unfortunately. I'd rather the event be held at Budd's Creek, but because of everything I mentioned, I understand the reasoning.

I like it and if it turns out anywhere near as good as Assen it will be ok. I like the mix of old school, modern and then a couple of stadium style tracks like Assen and Charlotte.

It might not work but it is a good way of bringing the sport to the people. History shows US MX fans aren't known for travelling to regular MX tracks to watch a USGP, so why not try this?

It's the complete championship and you need to be an extremely versatile rider to win it and be the best in the world.

They go to Glen Helen straight after too which is cool in that it's a total contrast to Charlotte.

I was very skeptical before the Assen race but it turned out to be one of the best races of the season!

The Charlotte race could be a new Qatar or a new Assen, let's hope that it turns out great.

Track looks narrow, or it's just a fat arrow.Laughing Anyway, I kind of like it, and I agree with a few posts above, this is exactly what the monster cut should be.

Its all about the venue... Bruton Smith is a genius at promoting big events. I used to go to the SX race when they had them at the speedway. Hopefully other promoters will take notes!

MXGP on Saturday and Southern 500 on Sunday!!

My only worry is college football starts that day and I wonder if that will hurt the crowd a little.

Looks like growing the sport ($$$$$$) by making "MX" more available to the new mx spectator, the non riding, no truck racing this weekend, I need a beer and a seat for my fat ass crowd.

Rock on but that ain't motocross IMO.

I live about 10 minutes from there and was wondering where they were going to put it. I actually think it's a good idea because if you look at the seating, you will be sitting right on top of the track whereas if it was on the NASCAR track you'd be pretty far away and it'd be like another Daytona and I'm sure they want it to be different.

Here's a better view of the track. Proud to say I've driven a top fuel dragster down this pavement!

US MX fans aren't known for traveling to regular MX tracks to watch a USGP? You obviously missed the USGP's at Unadilla. Couldn't hardly walk around the place with all the people there.

It would be cool to see JGR have a huge presence there, given the location

As a racer I think its fun to do things different from the norm. I raced one of those GP's at Unadilla, MX nationals and also raced Supermoto on the streets of Reno. Total different environments but if the track is done right the racing can be good and a lot of fun for all involved. A new fresh track also takes the "home" track advantage away from everyone.

I can't understand the whole logistics of building a one-off track like that , when they could have tried for any of the already made National tracks , or other non-national tracks. BUT.....with that being said , I kind of dig it to be honest. Kind of a SX / MX hybrid type track. And depending on the soil he uses , a 30min +2 lap moto may be pretty freakin' brutal.

I'd like to know the date as well. I'll be going to the USGP at GH again this year , and may think about going to this race as well.
Reason 1-10) the facilities and bathrooms and parking

It's cheaper to build a track just ask sx

I've been there and that area does NOT seem wide enough to build that track

Not sure how you guys can be saying a bunch of negative shit about this? I think it's awesome and will definitely get 'moto' out to more people. Fans (new and old) can sit in bleachers and watch most of the race. They won't have to climb up and down hills or park in a field 2 miles away. They'll have restroom facilities that work and aren't portable. The track looks fun and while I don't like all the banked corners, should provide some great racing.

While I DO believe it will be an awesome event...

Some sections just seem like single track.. Not to mention the arrow makes half the obstacles seem like a pump track

But make no mistake... I'll be there!!

Brought the pic into Autocad and scaled it. If I chose the correct place for the finish line, I figured that the width of the concrete is roughly 130 ft. wide. From what I can tell from the dramatization of the layout, the track between the grandstands is 4 lanes wide. Taking into account the gaps between the lanes being the same width as the lanes, each would average out to 18.5 ft wide. There are areas in which the lanes are practically side-by-side which would mean they are wider in those areas.

Don't quote me on any of these figures. This is a rough calculation.

I think it looks cool but I don't know where the hell they are going to get all that dirt from!! That is A LOT of dirt, according to the track map. It will be interesting to see the final version and to also see how it races.

I shit on the Assen track but in the end it got pretty gnarly and the racing turned out alright. It certainly isn't outdoor mx but as a 1 or 2 off it could add an interesting dynamic to a season.
Dirt is not a problem.

There is a landfill that is next to the speedway and they have mountains of dark loamy dirt stockpiled for future reclamation.

I think people will be surprised by the amount and quality of it.

They don't even have to cross a road to bring it in and have seen them use the huge off road dumps to move it in the past.
