a chest protector? Serious question.
You see 25% of pros do... But then again
I wear one and cracked it in half BUT came
away with only a broken tib/fib. Makes me think
twice even when going out to practice. Whats
your guys' thoughts on this?

...just ask Jay547
I always wear one - I've seen too many chest and shoulder injuries to make me think otherwise. I've wanted to bring this topic up before - I totally don't get why people do not wear one.
When I was 18, I crashed really hard, was knocked unconscious and woke up to bars bent literally in a V shape from chest impact (old school 7/8" aluminum bars). I collapsed my lung and was in the hospital for a week. Somehow, I did not break any ribs.
The only thing I don't do, is wear the extended arm pieces, but those are trivial to me. I look for solid chest/back coverage and suspended shoulder protection.
Boots are uncomfortable also so I dumped mine in favor of some Nike Shox. Helps me feel the bike a lot better and the Shox absorb some of the bumps.
Don't even get me started on goggles. I HATE the way they press up against my face so I ditched them. Now I just squint really hard when it gets dusty and if there's a lot of roost I just dodge it matrix-style. Works much better. I mean, if you read the warning label on goggles, they say that they're not a protection device anyways.
Now that I think about it, my helmet fits a little tight too.....
