Back in the 70's and 80's, it was possible to come "out of nowhere" and get a factory ride. Not easy, but it happened.

John Dowd was the last one 20 years ago (last one I can recall), since then I cannot think of another rider who made it from obscurity to factory status (yes JGR is factory status).

The past 20 years, unless you were a top rated amateur with success at LL and/or the big amateur nationals, you did not stand a chance of making it to the top level of this sport.

WP had no amateur record at all, and beat those odds- pretty amazing. And it's a fun journey to follow.

And to "Tailsohard"- the Barcia comment had me laughing....Laughing

I believe Sean "Hambone" can't remember his last name for sure. (sucks gettin old.) was racing the Canadian nationals and having good results when he got the call to be on the factory Suzuki team run by DeCoster. The guy from South Africa got hurt I believe. Sebastian Toritelli, ?

Anyone who thinks Weston has reached his ceiling is smoking rocks.

Weston has came wwaayyy to far, put together most of the puzzle and isn't going to be denied of finding the last couple pieces. The most important piece is sprint speed and he found it! He wasn't an amateur phenom and came from the absolute bottom of the pro ranks (atleast in SX). Saying that I hope he appreciate every bit of support he gets throughout his ride at the top. He needs stays away from ANY bad influences that will affect the incredible progression we've seen out of him. Remain humble and surround yourself with good people.

As far as the crashes. Tell me how many racers could take the licks he has the year, and think of the practice get offs we haven't seen. Chew on that for a second. A wise man once told me after a big get off "the only way you know you're getting faster is when you're crashing". It was at an age that fear wasn't a thought and the ragged edge was the quickest way to the front of the pack. Of course I figured out that line choice and smoothing was the way to stay at the front. This is something Weston will figure out, and when he does watch out because he's taking no prisoners.

His story is absolutely great for the sport, 110%. He's shown it's NOT impossible in this era to come from the bottom and rise to the top of the sport. Most everyone thought it was, until now. He's a great example of the American dream, and provides hope.

Suck a kick haters! You know your a BMF when people are making Chuck Norris jokes about you.

Yes there has been some in the past 20 years. I do know since four strokes has came around all I've heard was it's impossible for a privateer to rise out of poverty.

Weston is in a great position. He likes his bike and team, he will probably do it again next year and continue the progress.

All he has to do is smooth out just only a little bit. His speed is there and when he's healthy his fitness will be good.

For sure Peick is on his way up. When he can expend less energy to ride that fast he'll make less mistakes, improve even more and fade less. All in time, stay tuned.

Does every thread that mentions Peick have to turn into a Peick vs Barcia thread? Shit, just talk about how bad ass Peick is and what a great season he's having.

Or all three!!!

And before you chastise me for using a personal attack against you (because that's your go-to rebuttal) I don't care. Fuck you. How's that for personal.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^

The Keyboard Warrior is a knucklehead !!

BTW- Weston has a Lorrettas CHAMPIONSHIP. As a matter of fact, he's been to Lorrettas TWICE. He has been racing MX since he was very young. I've known the family since around 1999, Weston and my son grew up racing together. Weston was never a stand our rider, but I believe he was racing for fun and not really trying to become the next big thing . He decided to take a break from racing, which was probably the best decision he ever made. He came back to the sport, started racing again and stepped up his game. Then went on to win a title @ Lorrettas in the B class in 2008.

http://llvault.racerxonline.com/rider/weston-peick/races

Weston is proof that hard work can pay off.... He has put in the work and is FINALLY reaping the benefits of his efforts. I get so damn tired of all the haters that come on the forum, with NO knowledge of WTF they're talking about. (Not in reference to this thread) I can understand the band wagon jumping that can cause others to go the opposite direction, but I don't understand why they feel the need to talk $hit about him. I have found out that MOST people on this forum don't have a clue what they are talking about and probably don't even ride, let alone RACE.

Ok, Rant over.... Flame on !!
Exactly the kind of go-getter I want on my EM50 project. Cool

Roger in no way "picked" Dungey. Dungey hounded and begged for just a shot at Roger watching him ride and the opportunity to go from there. It took 2+ years of Dungey chasing Roger for Roger to stop and watch him.
Dungey was a no name, no brand AM rider who carved his own destiny with persistence and dedication and a lot of begging. He wanted it and went after it, much like Weston has done with his career. That is why i think both of these guys will be around as contenders for years to come. While many of the celebrated and lavished amatuer "elites" will fade after just a few years.
This is why I am such a Dungey fan. For a kid to try to get the attention of a man like Rodger, get him to sign you, and then deliver in every way possible, you can't ask for a better outcome. I've always been a fan of loyalty in MX. It just seems like one of the things that go along with being a racer and the Dungey Decoster relationship is the definition of loyalty.

What I find even more impressive about Peick is I don't think he was healthy at all this season and he was putting in some hard charges. I'd like to see what he could do with a healthy off season after MX and come out swinging for 2016 SX. And there's a whole outdoor season to get through before that.

How can anyone say anything bad about Weston is crazy , name one other rider that's came from driving his bike to the races 2 years ago to getting on the podium .my hat is off to Weston it shows the pure guts and determination he has inside to get better every week . If I was running a race team he would be my number 1 choice , he is still peaking , dungy has it figured out and sealy and Tomac ,peick are coming can't wait until the outdoors start it's going to be a true barn burner this year in the 450 class

I think you are wrong, and i while i agree that Barcia isnt done , i think he is already on the Brayton route , which is that his best days are behind him , and while he can still ride , i dont see him being 'the guy' any more

Barcia won a title on the lites bike (or was it two ), and made the move to factory Honda. you do two things at Honda, you perform , and you stay , or you dont and you go . So after his stint at Honda, he is now at JGR, which despite having all the gear , has proven to be pretty light on success, seeing as its supposed to be the top Yamaha team. That is a backward step right there .

And now you have Peick , a guy who nobody expected to do anything other than squeeze into the odd main towards the end of the season 2 years ago, who after riding out of his own van and getting seen at the nationals , picks up a ride with RCH , does well ,and is now making good use of a ride , that even the most optimistic would have hoped might net him a few top 5's at best .

Had he not got hurt , who knows what he may have done, (although you could say the same for Barcia , although Peick killed him in the first few races ) but now i see Peick as a great rider , who had the outdoors ahead of him to build on a great season , and go from there.

Barcia is the next Weimer , a guy who couldnt carry his 250 level onto a 450, and as a result will be a slow slide backwards.

DV has said , and rightly so , that you cant ride a 450 like a 250 , and he is right, and you can only live off a Lites title for so long before people have to look up what year you actually won it.

Dungey had an average am career until the 2005 LL race.

Zach Osbourne was the favorite but Dungey took the 125 mod 12-15 championship with 3-1-1 scores beating Osbourne, Stroupe, Lemoine, and Canard.

Its fun to sit back and read the things people post about a riders background and racing history. I dont really know Weston Peick, but the Dungey thing I know back to the beginning and to see what people think happened and who was responsible for things is really funny.

I get your point, but Dungey was more Roger D having some great intuition and picking the right amateur to hand a factory ride.

Dungey went straight from B amateur to factory, which is incredible in itself, and deserving of the accomplishments.

But Dungey never raced as a pro driving himself to the races, or on a privateer team, struggling for support. He just showed the right talent to the right person and it turned into a great (legendary) decision. But that decision was made at the amateur level, not after he turned pro and tried to make it on his own.

Peick reminds me of John Dowd. A little older. But will have a long career. Agree a moto win away from serious contender. The win will give him big confidence. He is a big guy, would make a good hockey player. Needs to learn to skate, hit.

Yes , he has won, but will he win again? I don't see it . That said , I don't see Peick winning either.

What I do see is that with the time he has had in the big boy class,he hasn't delivered , and while you might say that Tomac hasn't won that much either, he is still going to be on a Factory Honda next year, along with Seely, both of who will be winning races , along with Dungey and Roczen.. I don't see anyone else , bar for Maybe Marvin standing on the top step next year.

Unless he delivers outdoors I can see 2016 being a hard year for Barcia, unless he wakes up and starts riding the bike properly.
