Love my Bill Walters leathers! Hi Point boots, Bell RT helmet, Hallman gloves...

Think I trophied this day - a rare occasion...

Magoo would have been there too - maybe on his CZ250... I

Iron Horse Cycle was the local (Paradise, CA dealer - CZs, Maicos, KTM) - I pumped gas next door at the Chevron station to fuel my MX habit... Good times, innocent times!

After four years in the Marines, a year in Vietnam, married and divorced, I got my first MX bike at age 26, 1974 Elsinore.

Three years later I holeshot the 500 Support class at the 1977 Lebanon, Tennessee AMA National on a 77 YZ400.

For the last couple days I've been coming home, logging on to Vital and lmao at some of the pics and comments in this thread...."That helmet smelled like a dead animal" Laughing Laughing Laughing . Keep em coming people! When you think about it, everyone has a first pic of themselves on a bike. I want to see some of today's hero's post some pics...i.e. Poto, Dungey, Roczen. The Martin bro's ought to have some great ones from growing up on their "family track!"

Awesome thread.

I "grew up" in Eagle Rock California and right across the street were hills and trails to ride on.
My pop had told me that one day a freeway was going to go through the mountain and sure enough after years went by the Glendale #2 fwy did!

Yes they really can move mountains much to my dismay.

That did not stop us though from making a track on what was left of the hill.

In these pictures you'll see I am riding in tennis shoes and overalls and if you miss the berm at the bottom you shot off into the freeway.

I have no idea how I survived those years but somehow I did. Smile

This is a 75 RM125

I was a big Suzy fan and Roger was and still is a hero to me.
That is my open garage (The Factory). I had it timed perfectly before the cops showed up.

This is the infamous Works Post that originally had a No Trespassing sign on that we removed and replaced with our broken motorcycle parts on it and even made the local Eagle newspaper.

I'm 99% sure this is my first time ever. 1984 CR 60 aftwr my 8th birthday in 1998. Not the best first bike, but my parents were weary about dropping 1K on something better.

1969 Model 68 Pursang. In 1971. I am 16/17 here. Jumping off a big pile of fill dirt in Clovis, NM. Levis, work boots, and an original Bell Star. I don't think I was being a pioneer on full face helmets in motocross. I think I was trying to be like my flat track heros and some of them wore Bell Stars. I got a job at Furrs Cafeteria and worked there 3 months to afford the helmet. As soon as I had enough $$$ I quit. Washing dishes was giving me pansy hands.

I just came across this long forgotten photo and scanned it. Perfect timing considering this thread and all. Smile

1985-ish on my 1977 YZ 80. I had no idea what moto was, but I knew I loved hitting that little jump in our field over and over and over again.
I was too cool for a helmet. Hell, I was even too cool for SOCKS!!

I got some more! My Pop on Honda 305 Scrambler trails riding 1967, the last Bultaco pic is killer to me because you can see the Bultaco logo. This was in between tours of going to Vietnam, so I will throw another badass picture in of his wingman when he was flying Cobras. Shot of the instruments is cool, 170 knots 190mph 300 feet off the ground.....1969.
