2000 KX250. It broke apart like a chinese pit bike, didnt turn particularly well, suspension came set up for a 130lb novice, had no overrev, was big tall and wide, but damn.. There was something about those late 90s, early 2000s KX250s that made them incredibly easy to ride fast and feel comfortable on right away. Incredibly stable and an awesome bottom-mid motor. Being tall that bike just fit me great, I kept it pretty much stock except for some suspension work.

My 94 KX500 gets honorable mention. It sucked for MX racing by comparison but I'm more nostalgic about it.

yes it was..

as many years ago as that was, I can still remember the first time I heard one of the new Elsinores, it was the 250 and the sound was so different from any other bike at the time, it just sounded so bad ass..

Did you guys with those 2000-ish KXs have reliability issues? My buddies who raced them had issues like cracked engine mounts on frame and junk like that.

Mine is 96 yz125, mostly stock with revalved suspension that was perfect for me and PC exhaust. Also pissed I gave away some John Dowd yz fenders with the bike when I sold it :x

1982 Suzuki RM 250 with a set of Fox Factory forks. I knew nothing about setting up suspension or revalving but that full floater tracked so good and those forks worked like magic (for me anyway) that I didn't need or care to know any of that stuff. Would love to have been able to keep that thing. If I ever get into the vintage stuff, that's going to be my first choice.

2005 crf 450 I loved it. Fit like a glove, mb1 suspenders and nothing but ponies.

My fastest days were on my 04 crf250, still have it but can't get it to run right. Have put too much money in it, bout to give up. Never have been able to get comfortable on my 07 450 as i was on the 250

Bought a 2006 CR125 one year for the schoolboy class at LL. Sold it soon after. Kept it completely stock and it still ripped.

I never did, but, the fit and finish coming off Hondas was something to get used to. I actually enjoy doing the over the top maintenance and ensuring my bike is prepped properly prior to going to the track so that May have helped. As Nytsma said above though just about everything negative that the magazines said about it is why I loved it so much... It was just so easy to go fast on and it was so stable, once I had the suspension set up I could do whatever I wanted on the track with it!

Well I was lucky enough to track down my first race bike:1989 kx80 big wheel. In the process of restoring it now. If I could pick another one it would be my 98 yz125 it was built by terry Varner. Thing would haul ass!!!

I know it sounds totally retarded but I really wish I had my '75 Yamaha 400 MX...or at least the motor (engine...whatever). I'd stuff it in my 250f frame and lay waste to the 50vet sandbaggers. Stamp it. Honestly, the power was was just so useable...at least for me.

'79 YZ250. Mine had White Brothers suspension and was a Caddy. Got lots of holeshots on that one.

I had a 1982 KDX 175. I found a blown up kx125, from the same year, and bought it. I switched suspension and had a kx 175...Oddly enough, it was quite a bit faster thna the 125's of the same period..no idea why???

I never considered it a cheater bike. I was so skill impaired it almost brought me back up to even.

My son's first big bike was an '04 YZ250F. Brought it home on Holloween of 2003. We had a mild winter and he rode it into january. We went to Budd's Creek for february races, and did LL qualifiers in stock, mod and 4 stroke classes. It was the only bike we had, and we kept it stock so he could run both classes. He raced it every week and before the LL Regionals, I brought it back to the dealer to have them check it out. They did a leakdown test and compression and checked the valves. All were fine. He won both the stock and mod classes at the regional. Raced it every week till Loretta's, and I brought it back again. Same thing, all was good good. He raced it in both classes at LL's. 6 motos. His best finish was 13th, and he finished 24th in both classes. Never a failure of the motor in that bike. Never kept track of the hours, but with all those races and practice too, it was probably ready for a rebuild, but it still screwed. I traded it in for an '05 450 and got a thousand dollars less than I paid for it new, after all that. Best bike ever. I wish we still had it.

You guys have had some nice bikes over the years! I only miss my old Yamaha 100, not because it was amazing, but just because I had my most fun riding it as a little bloke. Good years, nothing but dirt bikes and swimming!
