either my first real bike 83 YZ 80 (in 1993) or my 95 husaberg fc501...

i went with my buddy and his family to glen helen to ride..at the time there were no tracks around here so it was a treat to ride a real track...i was about 15 at the time

first lap i rolled up what i thought was a tabletop and it ended up being a double..i fell over twisted up the front end so i went back to the truck to straiten it out...got it all dialed and was warming the bike up to go back out and right when i was about to shift into first to take off the radiator spontaneously cracked dumping all my coolant..we drove 4hrs and i did half a lap..

other than that the motor was a best but it handled so weird...front end was super heavy..it was way to much bike for me then anyways..

I had a 74 GT80, my brother a 76 GT80. We rode those things for years with little to no maintenance and they always ran.....ran like shit but always ran. First bike so I have no real complaints about the little turd. Laughing Got rid of it for a 78 YZ80, the first of the monoshock YZ80's. I was in love until after six months the frame cracked in 13 places and the damn engine almost fell out of it. Yamaha warranted the frame but there were 140 some odd people on the list before me so I had to wait three months to get my bike back from the dealer. Like I said, Yamaha warranted the frame but the fuckers wouldn't cover the labor. Also, they sent a gusset kit that I had to pay to have welded to the brand new frame. Six months later, same thing. Parents had the local bike shop weld it up and sell it. I was bike-less until I moved out on my own. Then I had no money to buy a bike with anyway. So I guess the 1978 YZ80 could be the worst bike I've ever ridden and owned. It ruined my moto career obviously. Could'a been the original McGrath or something...LOL
Newman, the Gt 80 was my first bike also and when it was beyond repair my dad bought me 1976 yz 80. Now the yz 80 was a real fun bike and reliable also. But what did i know I was only 7 years old.

Yamahas
Yz125 1998, 2000
Yz 250f 2002, 2010

These are all bikes I have owned or had a lot of time on and my all time pick for worst bike has to be the 2010 Yamaha yz250f. The thing was slow, and felt like a turd in every corner. I loved my yz125s... Probably the best bikes I ever had.

I had one of these. And i still have a limp because of it. I had just come off a YZ125G which rode well but fell to bits. The CR had a hickup over jumps, a huge flat spot out of corners and handled bad. Im glad im not the only one who felt it was a shit box. Spent a year on crutches after this thing bucked sideways and landed on my leg, shattering it.

Newmann, thats interesting about the YZ80E. They arrived in Australia as the first white models. Looked very trick as i had a yellow YZ80B at the time. I rode the wheels off the YZ80E on the sand tracks of West Australia. Unfortunately, and with denial from Yamaha, the frames were rubbish and the swing arms developed numerous cracks. The bike suffered in the whoops and i swapped out and blew a knee. The knee still gives me trouble as a reminder. My dad was a welder so he used to stick all sorts of gussets in the swing arm and weld up cracks. The following year, the YZ80F came out and for its time it was a good little package even against the mighty RM80C.

05 kxf250.

Slow, heavy, never started, over heated regularly and was ugly.

Hey Burn... Thats interesting. I put the YZ125K down as one of the best bikes i ever owned. I had the G and the J and they were piles of rubbish. I felt the K finally had the handling package together, which was the most important thing for me on the sand tracks. It was a little slow but a port job got them going.

This'd probably get my vote too. I haven't really had a truly awful bike but with that said the 03 CRF tops my list. In retrospect it handled poorly and I remember having numerous mechanical hiccups with it for the entire season.

the handling was awful!!! i had an 06 yzf 250 at the time and every time i rode the crf, i thought i was going to die!

I never had a bad bike. With that being said i rode a co workers bike and it was beyond fucked up. It wasn't even a dirt bike, it was an old 1984 Yamaha XS1100. I only rode sport bikes on the street at the time. It had ape hangers and the foot pegs were two feet further forward then what i was used to. I get on it and felt like i was sitting on the ground because of the low seat hight. I nearly blew threw a stop sign because of weak drum brakes front and rear, i had only rode street bikes with a disc brake on the front. I was glad to give him his bike back.

Ridden? The Gen 4 AF500. It's too short, too tall and too much power for that combination. Imagine riding a 60HP unicycle.

Raced? 1982 Yamaha YZ125. It handled like ass, was slower than a YZ100 and blew up or seized every other week.

I loved the gold rims.
The only slower 125 I rode was a 86 RM125.. and maybe the 02 CR125.

Yeah, those bikes LOOKED bad ass, but they were really really terrible bikes. The 125 was pretty quick during the short periods that it was running...

I rode a 86 WMX125 back in the day - it felt tight & fast. I liked my '85 KX125 lots better!

There were so many really bad bikes in the 70's you kids just don't know how lucky you are. "Dual sports" from Japan with "trial tires", spanish bikes that slid like demons but wouldn't turn, euro bikes that wouldn't slide but actually turned. 3 1/2" was the accepted travel for reap suspension, all forks really sucked with the exception of Maicos whopping 7" of travel, weak chains....we always had to have a selection of links available, steel bars that you could bend with your hands, tiny foot pegs, [my first Bultaco had a bold welded on for a peg], brakes that didn't work well and just didn't work when wet........seat foam like a pillow, leaking gas and oil out of every possible area to leak. Oh yeah, gas caps that didn't seal, nothing like gas on you junk at 7:00 AM to wake you up.

The list is farking endless.......

BUT we did have Whoopdechews!!!
Dude I'm laughing at that so hard I'm crying isn't that the truth! but we still rode the shit out of them.I rode lots of crap piles but I elect the 1998 CR 125 at the top of the list with the 1981 CR 450.

Man I really liked my 03 Yamaha 450f! Had a ridiculously fast motor and turned great....from what I remember anyway. I loved the 4 speed and thought it was a rocket! Would like to restore one and see if my memory was correct.

My worst motorcycle that I ever owned, easily my 2000 RM 250. That bike was a turd, no top end, blew up all the time, handled HORRIBLY. Its only redeeming quality was that it turned really good.

I'll give you that one for sure. When picking a gate or sitting on the line, I used to look down the line and look for yz 125's so knew I could move over and have my line into the first turn.
I was going to say I rode an 85' YZ125 once. I was dreading the day I had to move up to 125's after I rode that bike. I'm glad it was just THAT bike that sucked so bad. What a piece of shit.

Worst all time bike.
2006 KX450F. The front springs were really easy to push through and we were broke so I rode what I had. I was riding B at Ponca and the GP's in AZ. That bike through me over the bars, blew up, and hospitalized me more than any bike. It was super fast and I swear by the four speed. But screw that suspension.

2009 RMZ 450 and 2011 KTM 350. I have a hard time picking which was worse. That Suzuki might as well have had a drum break on the front and the worst stock suspension I have ever experienced. After riding the Suzuki I bought the KTM and just never got comfortable on it. That could be because half the time I owned it it was getting rebuilt by KTM after a bearing took a poop in the tranny.

All I can say is junk. The thing would overheat so badly if you pulled the radiator cap after a moto you could see the fins of the radiator because it had blown that much water out of the thing. The one I had was set up decently (bought it from a local pro buddy of mine) but it was ungodly slow and a PITA to work on. That was the only 4 stroke MX bike I ever owned, and definitely sent me back to the ping side for the rest of my days

I'm too young to have experienced really crappy bikes like those in the old days(I did however have a 1978 or something RM80, but since it was my first bike I wasn't to critical...)

Of my new bikes the 1998 Honda CR125 was by far the worst. Slow, 5-speed, handled poorly and and the front fork was always leaking from the seals. My 1997 CR125 on the other hand was really good, so Honda really took a bad turn there which they never recovered from on the 125's.

I was cruising through the first part of this thread in amazement that there hadnt been a mention of the 97/98 CR 250 then good Ole Terry says he loved his and instantly I did the pakard face palm!!!

I agree with the hatred of this bike, i bought the first 98 from Western Honda in Scottsdale AZ... I took it out to one of my desert riding spots to break it in and within 15 minutes i wanted my 96 CR 250 back. I called the guy I sold it to and asked if he wanted to trade me and he said "hell no I heard those things suck!" and i was stuck with mine!!!!

Smack yourself in the face all you want, but I still loved my 98' in the woods. It was incredibly fast, had amazing suspension and handled well. I never could figure out why so many people thought it was so bad but I guess maybe it was because I never raced moto with it, only in the woods. It's just personal preference I guess.
Had a '98 cr250 for hare scrambles,Loved it!
