I was cruising through the first part of this thread in amazement that there hadnt been a mention of the 97/98 CR 250 then good Ole Terry says he loved his and instantly I did the pakard face palm!!!

I agree with the hatred of this bike, i bought the first 98 from Western Honda in Scottsdale AZ... I took it out to one of my desert riding spots to break it in and within 15 minutes i wanted my 96 CR 250 back. I called the guy I sold it to and asked if he wanted to trade me and he said "hell no I heard those things suck!" and i was stuck with mine!!!!
I mentioned it on first page and I also thought of Capt. Facepalm even though I already knew Terry was going to stick up for that thing. Sorry TK
Just was not right for moto but was probably ok for trails. I could barely take the vibration before the gate dropped and the rigid frame was tough on the body.

2003 KTM EXC 300

First bike I owned as an adult: the compression would kick back and bruise the foot, it vibrated like crazy, the seat was harder than a 2x4 and it felt like you were sitting on a tuna tower in that thing. Once Ryan Clark gave one of his YZ250 that he used in supercross that KTM went up for sale immediately. My only regret was selling that 05 YZ250.

Is that the year they had the 23" front wheel?

84 Kx250. done full rebuild on it and within 5 minutes of riding bolts were vibrating loose everywhere. didn't turn for shit, frontend would washout in soft dirt every time. motor screamed though. lets just say motor technology was way ahead of braking and chassis technology in 1984

Made the mistake of buying this turd back in '88. They were so much better when they were red in the previous years! Suspension was absolutely horrible, and it was heavy as hell. The motor did surprisingly have more pep than other 250 4 strokes of the day though.

I don't know why this one didn't make the Super-Hunky list of 10 worst bikes. The Honda of that same year, mentioned in the Super-Hunky article, has some of the same bad attributes of the bike below. It too had a 4-speed gearbox, and really only one gear was usable. It had a powerband that wasn't smooth at all in delivery. So, it'd either bog or spin uncontrollably. Not sure why they had the extra weight of brakes on it, 'cause they didn't work worth a damn, which was a fantastic combination with the 125 horsepower profile with open class horsepower behind it.

i had an '82 that had the forks fixed and a DG pip and silencer. It was a fun and smooth bike to ride, until my brother wadded it up.

The 125 was worse. I had an '86 Cagiva 125 and it seized EVERY time I rode it. No air leaks, I never did figure out why it did it, I sold it and bought a Honda.

i had a 125 '98 that was the biggest turd ever coming off a yz125, can imagine that handling with a 250 motor was a scary thing indeed

The 79 had the 23 inch front wheel, but this was a really bad bike. Had one.

I got sponsored by some guy to ride a free bike! That didn't happen very often. He was in love with Cagiva's, and bought a new 250 which broke almost every time I rode it. Can't remember the exact year it was, but it seized the first 2 times I rode it. The third time the rear hub broke before it had a chance to seize. I had no confidence in the bike and handed it back to him and walked away.

Yeah, those bikes LOOKED bad ass, but they were really really terrible bikes. The 125 was pretty quick during the short periods that it was running, but it never ran very long.

Of the few bikes I've had, I'd say my 07 YZ450F. That thing would stand straight up in a corner, or just not grip with the front at all! I loved it when I had it, but when I bought my '11 KX450 I realized what I had been missing.....wish I still had that KX, but the current KTM I have handles great!!

My 2000 YZ 426. It was a beast on the trails, but on the track it felt heavy, hard to restart when it was hot, it got a lot of head shake, and turned wide. I got the hot cams put in it and it made it much easier to ride and start, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I got the 06 YZ450. That thing felt like cadillac after riding the 426 for so many years.

I remember kicking this thing for so long I thought my leg was going to fall off. Never started.

Then, we'd put a Salamander heater on it for 6 hours, kick some more. Never started.

My 86 yz 490! But I did win some yamabucks on that sled!
As for your technique of telling us about the worst bike you've ever ridden whilst looking for a sponsor....that seems interesting...Not sure if that's good or bad.

And the dealership in his sig sells Yamaha, as well.

It was a 500cc Kawasaki two stroke motor in an aluminum frame. I went three turns on it in practice at REM and got arm pump. There was about two inches of open space between the bottom of the motor and the frame rails and this bike did NOT want to turn.

Probably a great desert bike but for me it was for sure not a MX bike.

Those bad boys were as mean as they came. And you had to be just as mean to stay alive on them.
Those things were dangerous even to anyone riding near one. If one was behind you going into a slow turn you had a good chance of them bunny-hoping into you trying to slow down. If you were behind them exiting a turn you had to be ready for their back end to come around and eject the rider in front of you. Side by side on a rough straight they had a tendency to take up more than their share of the track.

The only good thing I remember is that they had the power to bring the front end up at any time. Unfortunately that seem to include times when the rider didn't plan on it.

I had a 74 GT80, my brother a 76 GT80. We rode those things for years with little to no maintenance and they always ran.....ran like shit but always ran. First bike so I have no real complaints about the little turd. Laughing Got rid of it for a 78 YZ80, the first of the monoshock YZ80's. I was in love until after six months the frame cracked in 13 places and the damn engine almost fell out of it. Yamaha warranted the frame but there were 140 some odd people on the list before me so I had to wait three months to get my bike back from the dealer. Like I said, Yamaha warranted the frame but the fuckers wouldn't cover the labor. Also, they sent a gusset kit that I had to pay to have welded to the brand new frame. Six months later, same thing. Parents had the local bike shop weld it up and sell it. I was bike-less until I moved out on my own. Then I had no money to buy a bike with anyway. So I guess the 1978 YZ80 could be the worst bike I've ever ridden and owned. It ruined my moto career obviously. Could'a been the original McGrath or something...LOL
