Yup.....was a lurker for a long while, paid and posted for a little bit.

I actually still have my signed JYD Moto Talk "By the people for the people" t-shirt to prove it......lol.

The seatbounce killed it!
I was there!

I was there from 1997 til about a year after TFS's meltdown. I've participated in this board a lot less than I did at MT, but MT was just that, a board. Vital is a site with much more content and tangible info.

I was there for a few years. I remeber you could earn a new level after how many posts you scored. I think I made expert or something?? As I recall I was the themrtoad there too. I hated fourstrokes back then as well.

It was the only moto forum I knew of. I didn't know there was a much updated, not to mention free, forum out there with a lot more members. I'm glad I paid for a year tho, so I could learn the ropes (if there are even ropes to be learned) of the internet motocross mafia. Plus, there were some cool people who posted there i.e. Rock and Peelout.

I was there for quite some time. Met a lot of people in real life because of that board.

Holy crap though... when it went south, it was quick and deliberate.

Among other things, what was somewhat unique about MT was that Steve formed a sort of backbone for many of the discussions around pro news. Before riders found twitter and DC started posting here, there wasn't a whole lot of "insider" info or perspective coming from anyone outside of him.

When he left, MT became just another MD, a room full of noise but with a $30 cover charge and lots of empty seats.

Count me in too. I think from 2004 until TFS left. The board had no movement and I was hearing all about this vital place. Been here ever since......

When I first started following the sport I could not get enough from the mags. Anything and everything to do with motocross just wasn’t enough. After I found mototalk I was in heaven with all the motocross and supercross talk.

I am a DC fan, pretty much from his Reason for Being article in Racer X. Always found myself agreeing with what he had to say. Although I did not always agree with TFS views on things, I was a fan of his too for all that he provided to mototalk.

There was a lot of good dudes on mototalk………

I was bummed when that all that fell apart.

Yep I was there too, not a bad place but it always irked me to pay to shoot the breeze with other moto heads. The drama was over the top in later years!

I used to post on there all the time but haven't been on there in years. TFS once told me that mototalk at one time was in the top 25, on the list for most hits, of websites in the world. Whoever owns the site is probably pissed he didn't sell it at its peak. Kind of reminds me of myspace vs facebook.

Steve must have been kidding you.
There is no way it was ever in Alexa's top 25...not even top 2,500.
Even when it was in it's hay day ,I believe it was only a PR3 domain....which it still is til this day.
Not many hard/back links,I count 135 this day.
It is ranked right now in the world 613,102 & in the US 171,866.

Vitalmx is bigger then motonews ever was...it's a pr 4.
Alexa Traffic Rank: 40,534 in the world.
US Traffic Rank in US: 10,088

The top 25 in the world in those days were always dominated by SE's & big sites like Microsoft.
hotbot ,Yahoo.com,Altavista,(Google.com came on later),aol.com,msn.com ect... then you also had their foreign domains to compete with google uk etc..
Those sites all did millions of hits a day.

Even in this day sites like craigslist, apple, ask, bing,Espn aren't even top 25..

Well, don't know about MT, but WI!, in 1996 was ranked the 39th 'Sports' site in Yahoo (Alexa didn't exist then AFAIK). Most of the other 38 were WWF sites. Of course, this was before SI, ESPN, NASCAR or just about any other major media players jumped in. Even Cycle News was nowhere to be found. There was us and motorcycle.com and that's about it for two wheel sites.

TFS had a melt down? That's funny, what happened?
11/10/2011 9:20am
I got in a lot of dumb arguments there. It was THE place for moto news in it's heyday, but it never adapted. Met lots of good people from there, though. 500Guy, BobbyM, GirlsRFun, Shenzi, etc.

Yeah,I could see that for sports sites.
The old motoworld.com domain had a good ranking in those days I believe also in AOL's SE.
I think alexa started in 96....remember the old alexa toolbar? Smile

Here is some old SE's you may remember also...Lycos,JumpStation,Go dot com,Excite,Dogpile.
Also in those days for some reason free webhosts ranked high in the engines...sites like freeyellow.com ect...

Yeah who knows. I think it might have been just for sports sites. Either way it did have a huge amount of traffic at one point. I wonder what the top website for motocross is now?

Prolly for traffic...
I would guess Racerxonline,it's ranked 31,613 in the world. Rank in US: 8,440.

motorcycle-usa.com is up there also in world rankings.
21,327 in the world. Traffic Rank in US: 10,431

I get this odd sensation when I read Vital these days- it's just like mototalk a few years back.
'Fess up...
No fessing up I was a proud member of MT with my good buddy TFreakingFS, regardless what you all think he changed the way we have moto news delivered, he is the man Woohoo We have digital mags & pics, thanks to him, Cycle News, Kit Palmer was the first to pull the trigger and use TFS's pics from SX.
