So, for the money, it was worth it for me.
Other issues related to business that he perceived as a threat, real or imagined, were different.
Tony definitely generated some great pics with the technique.
Pit Row
I've always given Steve credit for leveraging his unique position and the pure timing of it to transform the sport. But no one should confuse that with a blind eye for some of the pure nastiness the guy was prone to falling victim to. He ultimately burned every bridge in the sport due to that personal frailty. It was on full display, too many times, unfortunately.
A lot of people who interacted with him on that same non-moto debate BS hated the dude. They were equally nasty to him. He didn't take it personally and a lot of them did. The number of people he actually had any real serious grind going on with was a lot smaller than the people who took offense at his opinions or the way he stated them
Now I expect your dealings over some of the issues unique to the your mutual interests in other stuff was, as I recognized in making that distinction. Most people didn't have the relationship or the business issues you and a handful of others did.
By the way, for all you WhipIt!/FreshDirt/Mototalk/Motodrive old-timers, you might get a chuckle to know that my old pal, MikeeeeePissant, recently contacted me on Facebook and we buried the hatchet...something I would not have ever considered possible.
Those were some fucking good times, though! Never a dull moment!
Oh, and TFS was the best and a true revolutionary in just about every aspect. We had some great times fucking with people that deserved to be fucked with. He had the purest, most severe case of Andy Kaufman syndrome I have ever seen! I don't think ol' Andy hisself had it as bad as Steve...he idolized that guy!
Good times, for sure!
If you moto, yer good in this house.

The Man the Legend. He used his patented "seat bounce" technique to score that trophy.

Fun thread.
Meltdown my ass!
MT was quite a place, tons of fun.
For a while it was a moto journalist school. Just think how many people doing pics, past and present, that got started there..
Sure people got upset, me too sometimes, but that's the Internet. MT was the real deal.
It's funny that some of the most stupid shit is what people can't stop talking about.
It wasn't ever #25 in traffic or even close. About 2001 I remember someone sending me a note that is was about 13,000 in global ranking. This was before Alexa and I don't remember the source, maybe yahoo.
I don't care what people think about what happened near the end. Hutch and I were arguing over the ad money at the top of the page, and the site was never really mine. It just didn't work out. We also disagreed on some dickheads I deleted, and he put them back. I just got sick of it. I was bored with the way MT worked and wanted to design something all new and a lot better, and needed a smart web guy. Something like a Facebook for moto would have been ideal, where you make your own wall and control what's on it.
Whippy just needs to get over his personal problem. I know he was trying to go around me with Hutch about something and I busted him. Ever since he has had a grudge. It started when I kicked his ass in the seat bounce debates!
You people never got the real story on dipshit and his strobes, or you never paid enough attention. He had a personal problem with me because he was just jealous over how many pics i had all over, and MT-he thought it should be him, because he was mr photographer. Once things calmed down, he even admitted it to me. CCE pulled the plug on him during the day in Detroit, and I was not even in the building. He blamed it on me and took his bitching online, and he started trying to complain to CCE about my business (specifically me shooting the KTM kids and selling pics), and that was crossing the line. I never planned on being a photographer and didn't care about it that much. It was just a way to pay for the fun and tell stories. Scavo thought he was the "it" guy on photos and everything I had should have been his. Notice that when I left MT, he jumped in and tried to take my place and failed.
Overall, MT was a blast, and to quote Deegan after his SX win in 1997, "I kicked everybody's ass!"
