That’s all I hear when Joe talks about any of his programs and his desire to give away money/buy votes.
As he attempts to give away money that he has NO AUTHORITY to give…he runs his mouth about ONLY “republican” millionaires and how they’ve gotten an unfair leg up…
FROM HIS OWN PROGRAMS…like HIS 2nd tier of COVID relief…etc.
He accuses house republicans of benefiting from HIS programs as he blames them for his FAILURE before the court. Huh?
And, let’s be clear, he pushes this shit as a typical “haves versus the have-nots” from the class warfare handbook.
1. Debt is something these people signed up for when they got their French Art History degree from U-Penn.
2. The average working family/tax payer DID NOT sign the college loan contract.
3. The use of Executive Orders to side-step the constitution, no matter who’s doing it, needs to STOP.
Class warfare like how every big company needs a bail out, NBD. But throw some money at poor and middle class and suddenly that's the worst thing in the world and the cause of all our problems? Plenty of rhetoric on how raising the minimum wage is terrible, how funding programs to assist the poor and middle class is awful.
God forbid I get $9k of student loans wiped out. 6 states and 2 individuals that sued right? Wonder how much money they've been bailed out? Google knows. Sure is a fuck ton more than the covid checks I got.
But you're right, I signed up for my loans. I got a college degree that helps me make enough money to live by myself, own an ADV bike, own a Jeep, gamble in the stock market.
But I already cashed out my etrade account, and I won't be putting more money in the robinhood account. Staying home tonight instead of hitting up the rc car track. And I'm doing fairly well, but now I got another $300 a month I need to spend. Wonder what's going to happen in a few months when all the people who didn't prepare to start repaying loans, or can't repay their loans because they're un or underemployed. Wanna make a bet we'll see some bank bail outs soon? See some local mom and pop type businesses close down without govt help?
Never Republicans fault though.
I can get on board with half of what you're saying, but this asinine left vs right bs has got to stop. People need to wake the hell up and realize this is us vs them, not us vs us. We've seen nothing but stimulus, bailouts, handouts, and inflated spending since 2008 and the gap between rich and poor has gone almost exponential, maybe it's time we stop doing more of the same?! No more hand outs, no more bailouts, no more money printing, it's a self serving prophecy for .1% and it's only getting worse and worse as they try to trick people into believing they can "help" them again and again. Student loan forgiveness is outright theft from a large percentage of Americans, I'd be totally fine dropping interest rates on those loans to almost 0% and keeping them there but not just wiping it out, that creates a huge perverse incentive system.
My solution to this is nobody pays income tax until they're 30 years old. The percentage of taxes paid by that age group is very small, plus this would allow those loans to get paid off faster and make saving for a house much easier. And, as an added benefit, it would create incentive for younger generations to work and build wealth as early as they can, setting themselves up a lot better later on. This game of paying the government more and more money just so they can "give" it back to people is ridiculous, something has to change and the answer isn't more government fiddling with the monetary system, looks where that's gotten us.
Lol...this country has always played us against us. But, we aren't playing the game...we are the game.
I didn't need to go to college or pay anyone anything to learn where money comes from and how to get it. If you paid money, or borrowed money for that knowledge, and can't afford to pay it back, that is your tough shit. Not big business, not the government, there is no conspiracy, nobody else's responsibility, you did that. Like a car wreck or unwanted pregnancy, it may be a terrible accident borrowing money to educate, or try to educate someone like yourself, but it happens. Oh, and both my kids did go to college, for knowledge not opportunity. They didn't have to pay a cent, full ride academic scholarships, they worked very, very hard. Young people always complain about the cost of education, never about the cost of video games, spring break, or weed. 9K is big coin in your world? Work a little overtime or collect some tin cans, maybe mow some lawns or shovel driveways. Good grief. Hard to believe people are convinced they are helpless, when they really aren't. At one time the 18 year olds of this nation saved the world from Fascism, now they can't manage to pay back money they themselves borrow. Embarrassing.

I think a lot of those 18 year olds came back to a GI Bill that paid for their college or a big part of it.
That dumb fuck is telling a 30 year old man with a job in the defense industry to go shovel driveways in July.
And clearly doesn't know any young people. EVERYONE bitches about the cost of video games, weed, and travel. Right up there with cost of groceries and housing.
Those are some good ideas. Unfortunately it is a left/right thing.
Democrats are crying for 10k wrote off at a minimum, some are saying to go WAY higher.
And what are Republicans saying? Fuck off? Tough shit?
Not much of a middle ground gets discussed, and we all suffer for it.
Bank bailouts? Yeah need to protect them!
Auto industry bailouts? 100% gotta protect them!
PPP loans? Yeah 100% gotta protect them!
Extreme tax cuts for the top 1%? Yeah absolutely it’ll trickle down!
Why are we spending so much on Ukraine!? Help people here!
*Biden tries to help struggling people here*
”Dude wtf work for it! Pull yourself up by your boot straps. Work 16 hours a day. Shovel snow. Mow lawns.”
For what it’s worth, I don’t think Biden is going about it the right way. What I would do would take too long to type here, so I’ll leave it at that. But it’s unreal nobody bats an eye about the government losing billions from the top 1% tax cuts and complains about money spent in Ukraine. But any proposition to help people here is immediately shot down as socialist and communist and catering to the lazy. The opposition to CHIPS and Infrastructure Bills are insane. They did exactly what conservatives claim to want. Create high paying jobs right here in the US.
Just one of the many ways they keep us distracted so we don’t pay attention to what they’re up to. “Look over there, not over here.”
Sitting in DC traffic for hrs Fri I scanned the radio. I can’t hear the radio at all driving a regular speed, pile of junk. Every channel talked about Joe selling our country to China & all his corruption. And about why there pushing the trans thing & how that was passed . It was always considered a mental defect until they figured out that they could make money off of it. A small amount of people passed it & worked to get the insurance codes passed. The country is a complete mess. Economy is totally crashed . I asked a 40 yr exp mail warehouse supervisor,so what’s new in the mail world. She said & others states said the same thing, that the mail is slow. And that ups is also very slow. Like everything in the country. I haul multi stop mail loads sometimes . Junk mail pays the bills the warehouse people say.
I have many young people working in my business during the summers, for decades. They are all as close to my wife and I as our own children, we care deeply for them. Most of them grow to become prominent citizens in this very community, often times becoming customers of my business as well. Many come from bad home lives, foster care, etc.. Last week two sixteen year olds in my employ cracked over a thousand dollars in earnings, in one week. Most young men that work for me are ashamed of their own generation, public schools, etc.. The quote that nobody complains about the price of weed, comes from them, not me. That a grown ass man who has a job in the defense industry, belly aches about a 9K loan as unfair is shameful. I have children working for me that know money comes from initiative and drive, not sympathy. Dumb fuck, indeed. If your choice of adjective was meant to offend, it was the adjective you chose that displays an inability to properly address others, an argument, or yourself.
Is the GI bill still a thing? When I graduated high school I had a few buddies that joined the army for 4 years so they could go to college.
I don't think it's the same animal it was back in the '40's but yes it's still around. It got me my degree.
Lots of protesters around the country marching and holding signs about how they want student loan forgiveness on loans they willingly signed up for. Sorry I couldn’t be there. I was working. I will also miss today, Saturday, as I will be working again. But I’m not asking for help with any debt.
You put four years of your youth into the military, you absolutely deserve four free years of college imo. And more! Thank you for serving.
Disclosure, I was and am against student debt write off. I did however tell my kids do NOT pay on your loans this period because if they are going to hand out money to everyone else you may as well take it too p. Here's the thing, what makes you more valuable than a roofer that has the same struggles? Why should we give you $10k or $20k and not the roofer? What about the parent who worked the last 20 years to save and pay for their kid? Also, most of the money would be given to upper income families anyway. It's pretty disingenuous to argue student loans are bad and then still promote them. Convince me I'm wrong on that. If you want to claim you didn't get your money's worth, make the university refund your debt. They are the ones who took your money. Why should I pay for you? I already ponnied up a shit ton of hard earned $$s for the kids my wife and I brought into this world and call our own.
TM
Part of the problem is the universities see the students as cash cows. Most legit degrees take much longer than 4 years. To keep getting your $$s they make you take shit classes. Do you really need extra semesters of second language, fine arts, PE, women's studies... yes those were all things (and more) required for my daughters aerospace engineering degree. And it's not just that, they create a schedule that you need 2 classes but they run at the same time so you'll need extra semesters. You think this is accident? Look to the real problem.
You are a cash cow if you allow yourself to be.
Pit Row
by 2030 this country will more or less be in total collapse.
Worked my way through college. Saved and paid for my kids college. It was hard but worth it. I pay my debts.
Really? If you want a civil engineering degree, what are your options? Do you think the school negotiates enrollment fees?
They don't give a rats ass about you, there's a hundred more where you came from. As a matter of fact, most times you have to pay them the better part of $100 to even look at your info to consider letting you in for them to steal your money.
TM
My kids do have some debt. We went into it thinking we would take care of it but no chance. My son's engineering degree, they told us from day one, plan on a minimum of 6 years. It was a calpoly campus. When you figure the student lives on campus for $1K+ just rent per month, and the books, tuition, food, just general living. It adds up very fast. Multiply that by 2, Daughter started college shortly after, so they were going at the same time.
TM
Student loan debt will never be "forgiven". Democrats know this and it's part of their playbook.
They campaign on dangling carrot promises so they can blame the opposition when it inevitably doesn't come to fruition.
Really, my kids getting a doctorates in engineering in one year from now and doesn't owe a penny. All academic scholarships, he passed on the athletic ones. Nobody is forcing you to become an engineer, there are plenty of other ways to make a very good living in America. It's not like we have a caste system. Perhaps if affording college is difficult to grasp it's not for you.
While I'm happy you were able to do that for your kid and your kid works very hard for his future.
I would also like to add that the "Perhaps if affording college is difficult to grasp it's not for you."
is taken as a "since you're not as financially as well off as me, you shouldn't try to better yourself"
Years ago I had that ignorant view also. Then life taught me some lessons that only life can do.
Cheers
I’m as against corporate bailouts as I am individual handouts.
but comparing corporate bailouts to individual bailouts is apples to oranges.
Again, I’m against both. One major issue in this country is that it tries to privatize profits and socialize losses (for corporations and individuals). It’s a dead end road. Makes the inevitable long term suffering even worse. And just isn’t a feasible long term plan.
But bailout a large corporation,-in the short term-and it saves thousands of individual jobs when that corporation goes under or has to do mass layoffs to stay profitable. Bail out a corporation and it prevents individuals from losing big time in a recessed/depressed economy. I don’t agree with it…but that is the reality of it.
Its just not the same as bailing out individuals.
That's one point that Mitt Romney had right. Let corps go through the BK process and figure out what they have to do different if they want to keep the doors open vs just giving them money and keep doing the same thing. But if the root cause was the government put them in the position to go defunct, then what?
I agree…and individuals should be held to the same standard. Make stupid financial decisions (borrowing $100k in student loan debt for your liberal arts degree for example) they (individuals and corporations) should have to pay for the consequences of that (not socialize it off on the tax payers).
the student loan forgiveness issue largely goes away if it was possible to include student loans in a chapter 7…in fact, for that matter, if the federal government would get out of the student loan business all together the student loan problem is never a problem to begin with, it would eventually solve itself.
I never went to college, I couldn't grasp the expense. I have done ok.
Not the point. The country needs engineers and if you only let kids from well to do families go to college because it's expensive the pool of talent goes in the shitter. And quite frankly, you don't know why a kid didn't get a scholarship like your kid. The fact that you were able to pay for your kids expenses over and above what the college paid for, is not the yard stick to measure people by. IF you are even half telling the truth, your kid's time in sports and academics most likely consumed any time that your kid would have had available to work for their first car. There are other life experiences that are important too. But this is not about you and your kid, it's about the idea that if other people don't have your son's recourses they should forgo college. And yes, there are many jobs that will support a comfortable lifestyle. Based on your idea that only wealthy people should go to college, maybe we should start a program that when people are 12 we just tell them they can't ever go to college to chase their dreams, no matter how smart they are, because they don't come from an elitist family that does not have enough $$s
A better idea might be that we stop letting the universities steal so much money from the kids. Does it really cost them $200 per quarter to let the kids park close enough to walk the rest of the way. Fuck them!!!!! That's what they charge. My wife's business is near a university. The university literally had no parking signs put up all around the area so the kids had to pay to park on university parking. Was parking a problem? No, but the university could make more money doing that.
cheers
