They are not steam rolled.
I just want to know where the actual steam comes into play in this process…
I opened this expecting to see Tomac blitzing on press day 😂
But in all seriousness, this a good idea.
This is a steam roller. I didn't watch the video but I'm guessing you're talking about a highway roller. I cringe every single time I hear someone say steam roller.

That's a toy, this is a steamroller...
Good to see them experimenting, will be interesting to see how they turn out.
Good to know thank you!
Thats a beauty for sure. Case to boot.
Nothing against you, I've been hearing steve and riders call them steam rollers. Maybe in the 1800s.
Maybe the chance of rain has something to do with the prep? Local forecast says rain may start in the OC around 4 PM Saturday...
Will that thing make it through 9 whoops?
Steamed rolled is typically related to compacting Asphalt. Because asphalt pavement final roll or final compaction, utilize a mist of water on the drum. Asphalt is hot so mist of water onto hot asphalt makes steam.
In reality, for these woops it’s just called compacted with a drum roller.
Yes, but there won't be whoops when it does.
I didn't say it...
Steam rollers don’t roll steam.
Triple triple triple maybe?
I just hope all riders get through sx healthy. Jett v Eli v Sexton v Prado could be the best outdoor series we’ve had in years
Pit Row
No, that's a traction engine, not a roller.
Steam rollers and choo choo trains for life
Miscarriages don't have wheels.
There is no "steam roller" and they definitely didn't use a highway roller either. A highway roller would have a drum on the front and back and is only used for roads. They used a smooth drum dirt roller. Which has 2 tires in back and a roller up front that can vibrate for increased compation. ZERO steam involved.
Lmao 11 downvotes = 11 people don’t know the difference between a compact roller and a steam roller
Show this picture to everyone in the US and ask what it’s called. 99% are going to say steam roller.
Fred Dibnah would approve👍
This thread is ridiculous, does it really matter exactly what the machine is? I’m sure we all knew what it meant.. when I read steam rolled, I immediately thought of Paris whoops..
Yeah, I don’t think it’s that deep. They once were powered by steam engines and they rolled. This distinguished them from rollers that were drawn by animals in earlier days. I would guess the name just stuck around even if the method of powering the roller/compactors changed. This is what they used on the whoops at Paris:
Okay I stand corrected, at least Paris buiid was with a double drum roller which is primarliy only used on ashpalt.
As far as the steam engine argument I think that you could make that argument for just about anything the moves at one time in history we tried to use steam to do it. The steam would come from the water used on a asphalt roller so that the asphalt doesn't stick to the drum. That steams when it hits the hot asphalt.
Kinda falls into the category of "you don't hang up the phone anymore" or "let's review the tape" on a digital recording
If these things hold up and then get rained on I would think they would be very slippery?
