This is a joke, right? Just going full on supercross minus whoops for one of the rounds now?

Supposedly they’re gonna ride out into the convention center for part of it.

I kind of agree. I thought the big tracks at the Nascar venues were the best.

They'll be using some of the tunnels.

I don't like the sounds of it. A step backward imho.

So you can go and watch half the race on screens in a very old and outdated dome big screen?

I don't know what that looks like, but it sounds sketchy.

They should race at Bristol Speedway. They've hauled dirt in there for Nascar a few times. Imagine the track they could build in that place and the fan viewing.

I’d love an infield SX section with MX around the track. That would be wild.

Have to believe they got the place for cheap and that's the only reason it's there. If you wanted to go Midwest there's several Nascar tracks and drag strips to use. I've always thought indy would be cool. They've had some other cool events there besides the 500.

What I don't get is, why don't they do this for regular SX if it's possible? The football stadiums that give us 50 second lap times or less have been outgrown. I don't understand why FELD doesn't want to invest (more dirt) in its own product to produce better racing. I think this is great idea for the SX series but if SMX is suppose to be hybrid, a sweeper through the corridors doesn't really do that. OR how about a compromise? If they want a stadium round, make one of the three rounds at a proper outdoor track.

Don't want to hate it before we try it but I like that SMX isn't just more of the same SX tracks we get half of the year already...

They literally store the sx dirt at the speedway 5 mins from the dome. You would think they would have it there.

I wish they would bring it back to Atlanta. The new dome was so good for smx. I went to every race since 1994. So lame it’s moved out of atlanta

As with everything in life, follow the money. That dome is mostly unused, and I’m sure was cheap.  the powers that be are interested in ticket sales, not the most awesome venue/track they could build.
Look at the recent US MXdN locations, centrally located and you draw ticket sales from all directions. LL, also centrally located, as opposed to being near a coast and you limit a lot of reasonable drive times/revenue.

There’s quite a bit of room in that convention center, so it might actually be pretty cool.  I think the most important feature of the venue is the central location and cheap cost. They’ll be pulling fans from St Louis, Indianapolis, Nashville, Chicago, and Kansas City.  I know I’ll be there.  On top of that, Archview MX is hosting practice on Friday and Sunday.  You can bring your RV, camp at the track, and take the train to and from the stadium.  I can’t wait!

I went to a few there myself but it just got to the point that I wasn’t willing to go to downtown Atlanta on a Saturday night any longer.  Enjoyed going to the speedway.

And one of the worst domes in the country at that.  That place is an absolute dump.

Seems like an odd choice but I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt until we see how it plays out. Might be awesome; too early to pass judgement

The dirt is always good but not sure how they can use the convention area since that's where the pits are and I don't know that there is an area large enough outside to have the pits in.  I'll try to go if I don't have any work obligations that interfere.

Most sx riders rate the St. Louis round in their top 3 every year they have one there! That’s sx not SMX though! The dirt is amazing!!!

This will be the first SMX race ive seriously considered attending. How close is archview to the train? I was looking at taking it instead of fighting downtown.

It is literally across the street from the train station.  Paul always hires a security guard to sit there while everyone is at the race.  On top of that, the track is across the street from a prison, so it is probably the safest place in East St Louis.

I’m sure it is safe. lol. But the safest place in East St. Louis just makes me chuckle. Such a low bar but I’m sure it clears the bar by a lot.

I’ve come to realize people will bitch about just about anything. It could be held on a tropical island with free beer, food, tickets, etc and people would still find something to complain about.

Tropical Island, sounds sandy. I don’t like sand!

Funny that you say that but they will probably use the old indoor pits as part of the track. Parking lot across the street could become the pro pits since there are a lot less racers doing the playoffs.

Still trying to figure out what we are complaining about.. Seems like every other run of the mill venue?

Because it’s supposed to be a hybrid track, and historically football stadiums are 50 second lap times

I’m trying to with hold judgement until a track map is released, but it just doesn’t SOUND like a SMX race
