Helmet comparison

I’m not sure about comparison, but as a fellow big header, I also wear a xl and run both the se5 and new fly with the gps thing (can’t think of the model). They both feel great and I’d highly recommend either one of them. The only other high end helmet that fits me well is the shoei. The sm5 would legitimately get stuck on my head and damn near rip my ears off removing it. 
I can’t really answer your question as the bells never fit me, but I may have not come to complete terms with my head size by that time and was trying to fit a large 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve got a big head and the SE5 xl fits great! Came from an older aria XXL and bell moto 8 xl. The SE5 is comfortable all day. I ride track and long distance trail rides and it’s never been uncomfortable. 

Fly Formula. I've worn a lot of helmets, so far the formula has been the best. I wear a large normally, Medium with the formula. So with your insanely big ass head, you might have more options 😂

I have gone back to Leatt from Alpinestars.. cheaper end, but they seem to fit my boof head the best..

Yeah my bell, not sure which model.  The rubber trim came unglued on mine too.  I had to glue mine back on.

In the last 10 years or so, I've gone from Shoei VX-5, to TLD SE3 and SE4, and now I've more recently gone from the 6D ATR-2, to the ATR-3. And for what it's worth, I also typically wear a size XL or XXL helmet. My favorite thing about 6D is the ability to change their liner and cheek pad thicknesses, and also they also have "cool" pad options, that allow more air flow for the warmer months. And lastly, the ATR-3 is definitely a big improvement in weight and comfort over the ATR-2. 

How much do you care about safety tech? I recently cross shopped a bunch of helmets and went moto 10 because of the safety features 

I wear 7 1/8 hat size but because of my wide cheek bones I wear a XL helmet.  Bell in XL is most comfortable.  I have a Leatt which I think is a 4.5 which fits my head but a tick tight, jaw and cheek area but wearable.  I may even be wearing my helmets too loose.

I’ve been kicking around a new helmet.  I may try something other than Bell or Leatt this time, maybe fly or TLD.

Bell, Arai, Shoei, 6D, TLD and Fox all have great offerings with different features. Fitment is really the most important if you go with any of the mid to high-end offerings.

Fly Formula is the best helmet out there. I have a very nice A-Star 10 that's been on the shelf since I got a Fly. I've tried Bells, TLD, Shoei. Fly is the best for me. I've worn larges but wear a medium Formula.

I’ve been wearing Leatt helmets for the last several years now. For me, they fit better than the Fly, Bell, and TLD lids I’ve tried on. At least once a year, I try on a Fly trying to get myself to switch, but it never works. The Leatt is exceptionally comfortable for my head. I have an 8.5, a 9.5, and two older ones that I can’t remember the model name of. 

I thought my Leatt was a 4.5 but it is a 3.5.  I’ve lost a bunch of weight since I bought it.  Tried it earlier today and it feels pretty good.  Might start using it.  Lots of good helmets to be bought. 

I myself don't like what I've read about the safety of a 6D helmet in reports from Europe.  Leatt might be the best helmet out there for proyection.  I know most think it's cheap, but statistically it tests very well.  

I wear a couple of  white cue ball Astar 10's and a carbon Fly because it's black.  

It might be worth trying on a XXL SM 10 or closeout SM8 if You can find one . They both fit the same, but fit different from the SM5. I wore an XL shoei for years and then after trying on an XL SM8 , I was worried that I wouldn't be able to wear one. But then tried on a XXL. They kinda pop onto Your head, and the fit is different from the older style Shoei I came from so I felt like it was too small , and almost didn't pull it all the way on. But I tried it again and pulled it tight and fell in love. I found that moto 8's did not fit my head well. And Fox helmets also. 

Leatt helmets are also really good. I don't have any moto helmets from them. But I have a couple MTB helmets and they are my favorite. I keep thinking of getting an 8.5 or 9.5 Leatt , but just haven't yet . I've read a lot of the info that Leatt has put out. I am a Leatt dealer but its been mostly the braces and chest protectors I've sold of theirs so far. But I've been VERY impressed by the quality of every Leatt item I've sold and or own. 

 A little disclaimer . I sell 6d,Arai,Alpinestars, Leatt and Thor( Thor's high end helmet is a pretty good helmet too for the money, I have not tried one of the updated ones on yet, but going off the materials and specs they have some Pros to them too)   so I may be biased to a degree. Not trying to make any sales on here. Just trying top stay transparent.

My leatt 8.5 is the most comfy helmet I’ve ever worn. Comparing to my shoei evo, and fly formula carbon.

I find the leatt also vents very wel, just as well as my formula. 

Been wearing the formula all the time lately because it’s so quiet and I own a yz250f, man that things loud. 

Can you share those reports?

I’ve been using the tld se4 carbon (dated now) the last few years and it’s been one of my favorite helmets I’ve owned in 20ish years of riding. Very comfy, light, breathable. I’ll prob get another tld SE in the next year or so

What ever happened to Shoei helmets? They used to be great looking and lots of riders wearing them, now only a few colors and 1 model and very few riders wearing them

Seems like more off road riders are wearing shoei these days

Couldn't you just lose some brain-weight, fit into a normal helmet?

It's all subjective on what tech you feel safest using.  Fit is important and differs person to person.  Just like the Bell fits you just right, I tried every combination of sizes and padding and they don't fit my head at all.  A few years ago I went through trying most of the high end helmets and ended up sticking with Shoei because they just fit me perfectly.  I also personally feel the fit and finish is a lot higher quality than most of the other offerings.  (especially companies that aren't primarily helmet companies)

In the se4 and the se5 composite the TLD was terrible! I almost didn’t try on the SE5 carbon but after I put it on I was sold! Not sure what the difference is between them but it was weird the composite XXL was uncomfortable and the carbon XL was perfect right out of the box.

Not sure about the report from Europe , but I have a first hand report from America. Big get off where I got shot off my bike at about 40 mph while completely sideways after having my rear end skip out beyond the point of no return. I didn’t have the trajectory for a tuck and roll , so my head took a huge hit as I augered in.  No concussion , just a black eye and a bruised up head. Was able to finish my race and even ride the next day as planned. 
    I sent the helmet in for the $150 rebuild , but the shell was cracked and helmet was beyond repair. I’m not much of a brand loyalty guy , but 6D is my brand now for sure. They gave me 20% off a new ATR-3 because of the situation with my ATR-2. I used the money that I didn’t have to spend at the emergency room. 

My only complaint about my formula helmets is the eye port is a little tight for modern goggles. 

My sister called me pumpkin head in front of my friends and it stuck for like 10 years and I only wear a medium. You guys are built different😂

Mine somehow blends in I think. I’ve only had one person look at me and say my head is huge. It’s an eye opener when I take someone’s hat and set it on my head like a yamaka

Just make sure it is not made in China 

Don't try the Astars. It is a tighter fit for goggles than the Fly in my experience.

You do mean the Formula carbon or CC right?
