Stews perfect season question

Was he with aldon at the time? He was with kawi for sure. Someone on here alluded to kawi being really stubborn with changing the set up and that actually helped James by not being able to go too far out in left field with set up.

Anyone think we’ll see another perfect season? Roczen came close on the Suzuki few years ago.

He was with Aldon during the perfect season. I don’t think we ever see one again, but a lot of folks said that in 2002 also

Stew had no one anywhere near his level for that season. Carmichael had retired the last fall, Reed was in his "no outdoors" phase. Windham did not race outdoors that year. Alessi, who was getting better quickly, but still a ways off, went out out badly at Red Bud. Ferry and Short were not Stew level talents. Ben Townley was 2nd to RV in '07 in 250s and moved up with factory Honda but was always hurt.

James didn't attempt to win the outdoor title again until 2012, after switching mid-season from JGR Yamaha to Suzuki. 2008 was his only 450 outdoor title. Not racing outdoors in 2009, 2010 and 2011 hurt his career I think.

After they dropped the gate at the 2009 opener, and Stew wasn't there with his #1 plate, he never won a title again.

I'm the biggest Stew fan, but my mind keeps going back to not racing outdoors those years. I think that his career would have been much different had he done the outdoors and not the SX only contracts

Rumor has it the tracks were groomed at the beginning of each moto that season And that was to James liking
maybe im just getting old and remembering things weird

To me, Stew's perfect season was equally impressive as Ricky's first perfect season. They both had Ferry as the runner-up, and Short was pretty fast in 2008.

Now, Ricky's 2004 season on the other hand, beating Reed and Windham every moto, that was ridiculous.

Pretty wild to think we saw 3 perfect seasons in one period of mx. Tells you a lot about JS and RC. The two greatest mx racers if you ask me

In todays society im suprised they didnt just remove that corner from the track...couldnt be the rider's fault, right?

I wouldn't say Alessi was a major threat. Definitely not for the title. If something had gone wrong for Stew, Mike definitely could've been there to pounce on an opportunity but to say he truly pressured James at any moment would be be gross overstatement.

It was 2015 when Tomac wadded himself on the downhill at Lakewood after an incredible start to the season.

I believe those perfect 3 perfect and seasons, Carmichael's 7 consecutive titles (where he was never truly challenged for the championship) along with Stew's presence in the premier class through 2008 are major reasons why the 125/250F class became so much more packed with talent.

No one wanted to go up against who they knew to be the two greatest talents to ever race motocross. Stay down in the tiddler class where there's at least a small chance of success, even if it was just a fluke.

Not for Stew, but for anyone saying Stew won with an easy field, he had the same runner up as Ricky for one, and look what Alessi did in 09. He was the fastest guy by far over some FAST dudes, that title was his.

Villopoto was the fastest but went out early with a knee injury . I think Reed would have found his groove and overtaken Alessi anyway.

All I need to know about where James belongs in history I witnessed with my own two eyes on multiple occasions. He was my favorite guy ever to watch on a moto track. Anyone that thinks they can make a case against his perfect 450 season is grasping.

I don't see another one happening for a long time. There just isn't one rider out there where it's a forgone conclusion that they're going to win the title and the vast majority of the races. Maaaaybe Tomac if he was "on" 100% of the time like RC, but that just isn't going to happen. Too many people too close, which is a great thing.
