Those were the days. Living in Mammoth, we’d work until 3:30 PM, show up at the track by 4:00 PM, get unloaded, and by 4:30 we’d usually have afternoon thunderstorms, perfect for a nice, wet track. And if we didn’t get rain, the Race Dept. was kind enough to leave the hoses out (Thank you forever, Dave.) We’d turn on the water, soak the track, shut it off, and roll the hoses back up. I called a meeting of the minds in our pits after one buddy called it a triple. I said "Nope! That triple BS has to stop right away". 😂 By all rights it's a step-up that looks and feels like a big double from the rider perspective. It's relatively low consequence for the level of rider who should be jumping stuff like that. It's a significant gain in height (probably ten to twelve feet) but the GoPro makes it look very flat. I spent Friday July 4th and Saturday July 5th at Washougal MX riding practice and racing with friends. There is a pretty interesting update to the southern-most section of the track next to the old starting gate. The old starting gate is gone and a new step-up double has been added into the existing section of the track. It will be interesting to see how that section shapes up for the pro race in a few weeks. I was in the booth at Mammoth announcing this race, was working the whole event. As soon as yellow flags came out in that section which was immediately on the lap he went down, I saw 3 EMT's on foot sprinting into that area...and I do mean sprinting....followed by a medic mule. Given how well they staff the flaggers at that race and the immediate response I saw from the medics I would have a hard time believing that Aidan was laying on the track unattended to. Not trying to say I know more than anyone else but that is...

Washougal is an amazing track as a spectator, you can pretty much go literally anywhere around the track and still get REALLY close to the action. The downside which at this point in my life is significant, but getting in and out of the track is pure misery. I have done the arrive at 7AM thing two years ago, it was not as bad getting in, but that is really freaking early. And leaving the track at the start of the final 450 race, still had us sitting in traffic for hours getting out. Anyway, if you have more patience...

Patrick won the 2024 edition of Best Whip at X Games and has been furthering his overall free riding and freestyle skill set aboard the Stark VARGE. However, X Games' ban on electric bikes has put him in a weird position for the 2025 version of the event... Hate, tolerate, indifferent, or love electric motocross bikes...you have to admit some of the stuff he's doing on this thing is mental.
