I want to sympathize with Davey more, but it’s difficult to do so. Twice I offered to help with the streaming for FREE (I get paid for this now). I stated my qualifications: I helped build the streaming industry. I have been involved since 1998. I have loads of patents, I’ve bought, sold, funded, and partnered with every major CDN, every major media company, ad companies, etc. crickets. We are in a transition to IP delivery (streaming). If I’m guessing, it’s going to take another 5 years or so and even then, linear TV isn’t going to go away. Streaming...

rg807 Added a comment about feature Are Performance Enhancing Drugs Still Existent in MX/SX? | @Ping

Ping, the great Mike Rowe had an amazing response to a keyboard warrior that you might appreciate. “The part that fascinates me, Jennifer, is the part where you assume your respect is something I might be craving,” Rowe sharply responded, refusing to discredit PragerU. “What happened exactly, to give you the impression that people you’ve never met might care about having your respect?” he emphasized.

rg807 Added a comment about feature What Does "Privateer" Represent in Today's Racing? | @Ping

The biggest difference between today and 30+ years ago is how far suspension has come. You wouldn't DREAM of hitting some of the stuff guys are jumping today because coming up short or flat landing would put you in the hospital or worse. That's not to take anything away from today's riders, but better suspension has enabled less skilled riders to do things that they wouldn't have years ago.

Zooki- I'm going to defend Ping here. Yes, he didn't go to college, but college is turning out a lot of idiots right now. Ping's comments miss the mark in a few areas but I appreciate his perspective and nuanced response and I don't think his experience can be completely discounted. As I said previously, sports science, while much further along then it was 30 years ago, is still fairly primative. The larger issue, from my perspective as it relates to MX, is the lack of real science about safety equipment and the seemingly lackadaisical attitude about the injuries that...

rg807 Added a comment about video @Ping EP. 3 | Coincidence That Musquin Won Without a Neck Brace?

My speculation is that for people with shorter necks, you, me, etc.; neck braces don't work. I don't have a lot of mobility in my neck anyway and a brace wouldn't work for me. If I had a stork-like neck like Marvin's I'd probably be wearing one. As for knee braces, I've been lucky and only had one meniscus tear and that happened during skiing. My brother on the other hand has had 5 major knee operations from MX and never rides without a brace now. To each their own, but when you think about Bailey, Fonseca, Magoo, etc. it's...

I don't agree that you can take a limp dummy with zero muscle tone and produce results that mimic an actual human, particularly when each crash is different and infinitely dynamic. You can measure impact force, think crash test dummies in autos, but there is some massive grey area when presuming how a rider will move when crashing on a dirt bike. Totally agree that our sport is in its infancy in terms of training/safety/etc. Here's the reason I don't wear one, and I've tried almost every brand. Two different times, on two different days, a neck brace almost made...

Hilarious. Actually, I have a BA in Economics! If you read my comment, I didn't say the companies' products were perfect or that they're "correct in their safety claims? No." What I did say, which is generally true, is that they employ engineers and physics experts who then do loads of testing because, a, they want their product to work so people will buy more of them and b, so they don't get sued, particularly as a safety product. The fact that someone is a pro just means, generally, that the loads are potentially higher. I'll further add that as...

The difference is that, again, Ryan isn't an engineer or a physics expert, etc. whereas a company like Leatt employs lots of them and tests their product extensively. Does that mean they're correct in their safety claims? No, it isn't a guarantee that they're right, but they at least have some mathematical basis for their claims in the first place. I also don't think conflating a neck brace w/ a knee brace is relative they are two different braces and body parts, obviously.

I, like many people, dearly wish 125s would make a comeback, but the reality is that it’s over. So, if we went to 150s or something, they’d be tuned to the nth degree and it would cost a fortune to run them. The solution, as in the 450s, is to restrict them. We all want great racing, but in a tight stadium, with a modern 4 stroke, more power isn’t helping.

A problem Honda has it they are Huge in comparison - Meaning they make cars and planes etc. So they sit on global boards for the reduction of emissions etc and they comply and sign and agree with those boards for all the products cars bikes and plane - Unfortunately MX's fall under the umbrella - KTM do not have that problem as other boutique bike manufacturers. Not to say they are not under influence etc as TPI is a resultant but not the same way the globe wants Honda to comply.

There's an easy(ier) solution to the 450 problem: restrict the intake and, if necessary, mandate 3rd party ignitions as they do in MotoGP. I cannot, for the life of me, figure why the AMA, unlike every single other racing organization on the planet is afraid to limit horsepower. Making the tracks harder is a bad idea; guys are already splattering themselves on a regular basis at almost 60mph in a stadium. The bikes simply need to be slower. And leave them WFO for the desert, where you might be able to use a 110mph motor.
