It’s probably because Trump and the republicans have now shown themselves to be everything but conservative. Under their leadership we’ve gotten more bloated spending bills, more foreign “aid”, expansion of government oversight, increased debt, and very little if any meaningful cuts to government spending. Clearly there isn’t a truly conservative option in the two party system, and a lot of us who voted for those things but got the exact opposite have had about enough at this point. I’d be shocked if I ever vote for either party again, or even bother voting at all, you get the same outcome...

Limited government, reducing debt, and social issues like abortion and family values were the entire party platform when Bush ran, and Trump has removed all of these things from the party platform. Doesn't even pretend to care about them anymore. And Bill Clinton would be the last president to shrink the government. Reduced federal workforce, deficit, spending as % of GDP..... also passed crime bill and saw violent crime decrease a ton during his presidency.... passed bipartisan welfare reform..... didn't get us into any wars.... maybe he should run for a third term.

Is it just me or is this board starting to shift left? A year ago it was all supporting trump but the last few months if you go by up and down votes it sure seems to have swung the other way. I know when I talk to a lot of my friends who did vote for him they are now saying they regret their decision. Even more so if they deal with importing products.

This is one of the biggest issues. You’re not a trump lover or a “hardcore liberal” with no gradient in between. You can be your own person somewhere in the middle and not defend someone making black people into an AI video as the POTUS and posting it online then defend it. You can be a conservative with a Brain and a liberal with a brain and moderation. It’s not black and white

Trump puts Trump first. He’s indifferent to skin color as long as that color exhibits blind allegiance. Dissent of even 1% is not tolerated, at least publicly. Trump’s public persona differs from his more quiet self, but he cannot break character at this point. While his base may be shrinking, those remaining become more resolute. After a decade-plus of defending what’s increasingly indefensible, there’s no going back.

Coincidentally, republicans are doing things that would have been considered liberal back in the day such as supporting more unitary form of government. Also trade policies which many consider a tax. Back to main topic, only trump knows if it was intended to be racist. But most agree it was poor taste for leader of a country.

TM, you’re stacking assumptions and calling it a conclusion. Yes, bodycams often protect LEOs. That’s because most interactions aren’t misconduct. Accountability tools are supposed to protect both officers and the public. And 'Dems resisting bodycams' isn’t really a thing. The debates now are about privacy, release timing, and data control, not whether cameras should exist. That’s normal policy evolution, not some ideological pretzel. The 'professional agitators' claim is the biggest leap. Protests have always had organizers. Civil rights, anti-war, Tea Party, BLM, none were random crowds. Organization does not mean conspiracy. And bodycam footage hasn’t revealed some traveling cast running...

It almost seems by design for the Seattle race to be moved earlier in the season to get a crap weather race. Guaranteed to be cold, and likely to be wet. Trump legitimizes it by confirming and expressing he shares the same views and if the president can express it so can I. Ours kind of the same argument the right uses against trans people and drag shows etc. Remember when conservatives were up in arms over Obama wearing a tan suit? My oh my how far they’ve gone.

I wouldn't say everyone on the right is racist, but the times in my life when someone has used the n word in a very derogatory way around me or when someone has rejected welcoming people of other races or sexual orientations into their family, those people have mostly been to the right politically.

You seem highly intelligible. If you remove the reluctance to sound “woke” or “left” and look at it just purely objective, many many trump supporters have massive distaste for black and brown people. That’s the reality. And they admit it to their white friends. I’ve been in the truck with them or at lunch with them or in the locker room. I’m not fabricating it. We all know if we remove our bias of defending our idea of what’s happening that supports our “side” vs what is objectively happening.

If you strip away who belongs to what party & view all of this behavior by OUR elected officials - it’s embarrassing. Childish. Trump acts like a child on the playground. Would you allow your children to behave like this? Where has all of the integrity gone? I’m fed up with how extreme both parties have become. The MAGA party is not republican. The progressive liberals are not democrats. The first party that can realize this & put an actual adult in office - will succeed.

No. I’m a Non-MAGA conservative. There are millions of people like me who were previously classified as right wing, but not by today’s militant standards. I grew up in the Deep South (confederate flag belt buckle included). But I never understood the innate disdain of black people. My parents and relatives used the N word like one might say dog or cat. And many of my old friends do the same. While by no means did Trump create their prejudices, he did legitimize them.

And sadly because the president is doing this, people who normally would keep their racist thoughts for themselves, are now just saying these racist things loud in public. The hatred, anger, and polarization that Trump is unleashing across America like a hurricane will continue to haunt the country long after his term in office has ended.

They will just continue to rot out our country and do what ever Israel tells them too. Starting to see why 1930s Germany went crazy for no reason at all.
