Man, there are a lot of tough M.F.er's on here. I shouldn't be surprised as I always knew MX was one of, if not the, toughest sport. Thank you for all the responses. It's definitely helping me deal with everything. Like a lot of you have said, I'm just not going to think about riding at all, concentrate on getting better and back to normal. And back to taking care of my family. Also, to those that have posted about losing someone you cared about, my heart and thoughts go out to you. I know the pain of losing someone...

Been there done that. I’ll be 40 in December with a 7 month old little girl and a four year old little boy that idolizes me. I ride street and dirt. Your wife is the real hero. A group of us from central Florida went on a mountain street bike trip last October (deals gap). We left with one fatality, and four fewer bikes than the group went up there with. I came home and wheeled the bike in the garage where it has sat since. I just lost a very good friend (who was on that trip) this past...

Gotta be an echo, firstly your wife's a saint and second you don't need to think about riding right now, just heal up. I see a lot of old dudes who ride bikes on the road, way within their limits and the rules of the road, but all it takes is some clown to pull out in front of them or a little diesel on the ground and it's game over. Plenty of people lift weights or go for a run, not overly pushing themselves, they're in good shape generally, but they randomly have a heart attack or an aneurysm...

This ^^^ Concentrate on healing and getting your non riding life back on track. Plan a trip or vacation that your awesome wife / nurse wants to do. My last crash cost me a trip to the Florida keys Grinning Then when you start riding again you can decide if you want to ride or race mx tracks or maybe get into dual sporting, trail riding etc. You will ride again might as well face that fact, you're a lifer. Add in the fact that your wife hasn't said "No more motorcycles" even while she's nursing your busted up body...

I’m 48 and the list is long but I’ve broken my back twice my neck, pelvis and collarbones and shoulders knee surgery!! 13 known concussions and while recovering I fear not riding will be the end of me. Riding is my release from life’s challenges. My stress fades and that time on the bike I think about nothing but riding. My mood is better I’m better for it. All of these injuries for the most part my wife was right next to me. I know I’m probably not the best role model for advice. I think it’s important for everyone...

Long story short. Laying on the stretcher 5 years ago I tell my wife “that’s it, I’m done”. After 30+ years and B level speed and a stack of injuries I was over it. 2 days and 2 surgeries in one hospital, transport to another hospital for another surgery and another 12 days. 2 days after my second surgery I started looking at vintage bikes. 8 weeks of one arm and one leg living with my awesome wife taking care of me. Sold my 450 while still on crutches and my wife says “no more 450’s”. She knew I would...

injuries have made me question my ability to ride again but never my desire. I will say this, every time I go out I’m scared of getting injured. When I run my hand over the screws in my lower leg it freaks me out. With your laundry list of injuries, you have nothing to be ashamed about being scared to go out again; that’s natural. I would keep your bike for at least another year and see if your desires change during that time. If the Itch is gone sell your bike, but hang onto your riding gear for one...

My first take, is you have an awesome wife. Second, I’m so sorry this happened to you. Sounds very scary. This would be a tough one to get back on the bike from, for sure. Nobody could argue that. As we get older it gets harder to justify what we do. I’m 58, and a couple of months ago I crashed pretty hard just riding through a cleared section of woods. It was a fluke, but I was thrown about 20 feet and landed on my side on some ground up stumps. This was absolutely nothing compared to what you’ve...

Hard post to reply to. I think the bleeding on the brain would do it for me. It’s not worth the risk of another head injury. I hope you heal up well…..great wife as is normally the case. Wives can be the unsung hero’s if they are reasonable.

While I wonder if DF is a difficult rider, I don't think he is lazy or not putting the work in. He seems highly motivated and gets back in shape after setbacks. I wonder if it is just a cultural difference that makes it a harder fit. It is not necessarily a right and wrong situation, if he was on a french team he might fit in fine and they would understand his point of view from there lens on the world. But in the US it might not translate correctly. But I do think Dylan is a hard worker...

Ha, I knew DV would chime in and clear things up. I love when he posts in here. Sounds like it remains a mystery why Dylan ghosted him when they worked so well together and won 3 titles.

Let’s get some stuff straight because you’re losing yourself. 1. I’m my own boss. If a MX coach acts like the rider is the boss, the relationship will last but the results won’t come. In any sport, the athletes aren’t the coaches’ boss. It’s the other way around, buddy 2. Pourcel threw himself under the bus (or shot himself in the foot) and not only at MotoConcepts. With the talent we had in 2011, Chiz, THahn & Cie, the results & the bike weren’t as bad as everyone thinks. Chiz was riding well until he snapped a chain in Houston...

DV went prepping his kid for NCAA D3 basketball, while DF was hurt. To me it always looked like DV didn't stay in touch with his rider, (his boss in some way) to hear how his health and rehabilitation was going, if making schedules was already possible or not... I know DV is very popular here but he threw Pourcel under the bus too, because MotoConcepts was DV his employer. But little later everyone including him accepted that the YZ450 was rubbish because James Stewart and others started saying the same. Also DV and Cristian Craig didn't last long. But...

I think you might be on to something. He even had a hard time getting along with his French riding coach at times and DV may be considered a opinionated person at times. So yes people may be done with him when he hasn't done anything lately. By the way I enjoy listening to both Dylan and DV but not sure I would want to put up with them daily.

I concur... Based on their original budgets. I think I'm saying, it's remarkable that nobody has figured out how to increase the budget for another bike for a guy that is a true title contender. A 1 bike team to 2 or a 2 bike team to 3... It seems Suzuki is the only one that has made the effort, at least that we know about. The series is better with DF on the line racing...
